I have such bad social anxiety, the first time I joined a webfishing world I had no idea how to play the game or what the purpose of it was other than fishing- people were so quick to invite me to sit next to them and chat, they showed me the stores and mailed me fish so I could afford to buy the clothes I wanted. I may just be lucky, but so far everyone I have met so far has been kind and very welcoming, makes me want to keep coming back :3 I hope it stays this way. There are lots of cool lil secrets around the map too! I never would have figured some of them out without the help of random nice strangers
and at the same time as an experienced player I just love helping new players and helping them financially, partially because it feels nice and partially to brag about my experience
This entire thing is so true! I was commenting on another video how webfishing feels like when you would go to the playground as a kid and play with other kids you didn't know. It's like that for adults :')
Webfishing reminds me a lot of VR Chat. I've had a few times where I'd been feeling really lonely and decided to play VR Chat on my crappy old laptop- no VR, just a pair of cheap earbuds. The people and communities you end up meeting and kinda just slipping into for a night- it felt really special. I remember being with a group of players sitting around on a bed, just talking for hours. I remember listening to someone with a banana avatar play guitar and sing in a bathroom, with other players crouched around on the floor, dancing, or having their own little conversations. The types of people you meet on there are the people I'd never get to meet in real life: people who work night shifts, people who live in dangerous neighborhoods, people with chronic illnesses. It's the people who get pushed to the sidelines finding their own place to connect and share stories. As someone with social anxiety and autism, having this place where I could just join any group and not have to worry too much is something really wonderful.
It’s always been easier for me to integrate and be more open and social in online spaces. I also have social anxiety, adhd and a touch of autism to go with it. Making meaningful connections with people in the real world is pretty difficult.
The age verification thing is sort of a double-edged sword. I recognize the need to keep minors away from stuff they shouldn't see, but any way to genuinely verify someone's age runs into some huge data privacy concerns.
Great video! I just got into Webfishing a few days ago and I love it and have even talked in servers with people about how it has filled the hole left behind from 2000s chatrooms and browser based spaces like Club Penguin and even in some ways some console experiences like PlayStation Home! I was considering making a video on it myself, but you really nailed everything I wanted to say on it! Looking forward to your future videos. Subscribed :D
I actually just picked this game up the other day! I haven't joined any public groups yet but it's been very fun just fishing by myself or chatting with small groups of online friends! Great video! :D
When I started playing webfishing I said “if in a month no one has talked about webfishing and third places I’m going to do it myself” thank you for making it so I don’t have to🙏😔
Adult chat/child safety: If only you could make a server that only lets in folks who's local time is after "bedtime", won't stop determined children but would be an extra filter nonetheless.
The only problems are "bedtime" is gonna be slightly different for every family, and because we live in different time zones, it's only gonna allow a few time zones at a time.
@candicraveingcloude2822 I don't think being limited to people north south and east of you is a deal breaker. Point is it would filter most of the under aged players should one wish to avoid them.
@@MrAirpumpkin It's not a huge problem, buy it's something to consider. Also again it's not a bad idea quite creative in actuality. However the practicality of applying this would mean accounting for every single family's bedtime for kids in the world depending on their age and/or accounting for every average bedtime for young kids in every single country. Love the idea, it might just not work.
Webfishing is so fun. I'll make servers for the 420 fellas, and set up with a guitar and play on and off like 75% of time. In between I'd have the coolest conversations with people. Made a couple of friends who are I've stowed away onto discord. I now how people I can show my dumb lesbian art. Which is a win for me, personally LOL.
My issue with using any sort of webthing as a "third place" is that I need a space to socialize where I have human rights. I cannot be in some weird space where an untouchable party has absolute power over me to impose rules and regulations at their whim. If I'm going to seek anything like new friends, then I need to be able to ask for things like real contact information. It's okay to have that ask rejected, but I cannot make a third place out of somewhere I can be insta-silenced and banned forever over "what's your phone number?" It's a cute game that's kind of like a Discord with something to keep everyone busy while they chat, but it's not a third place.

Same, people here are amazing. It makes me so happy to see people enjoying their time just like u did haha. S2

Webfishing feels like a space for an isolated socially anxious soul to find some peace and connection.

I love that analogy it's so spot on lol

I really hope we see more games like Webfishing in the next few years. I really miss this era of the internet.
