Do you think you matter? Does your life matter? In the grand scheme of things? On the massive scale? Your bodies deteriorate over time. You get sad you get happy okay but who controls all of that? Who doesnt? This shit is intense
Coming from the crazy mixed up person himself what does that make of life? Btw… mark Twain said the same thing we’re all insane if we accepted that it would fix a lot of our problems
So, far this interview is fascinating. Just compare Elizabeth Hall interviewing Dr. Skinner to Cathy Newman interviewing Dr. Peterson. Cathy should watch this interview and learn how to do her job properly.
IQ is not environmental. Generally, smart parents create smart children. Mozart's father was a good composer. Studies of identical twins separated at birth have been found to be very similar in intelligence, interests, etc. We adapt to our environment but the ability to adapt is inherited. Most people who are good at math are not interested in the humanities, and vice versa. Fast race horses are bred with other fast horses. People have inborn propensity to be religious, to attach to political parties, to follow fads and fashions. Genetics is over 80% of behavior.
The whimsical metaphors Skinner uses is probably the least interesting scientific language imaginable. Skinner's argumentation pattern is reminiscent of the argumentation pattern that can be derived from the charming psychopath's understanding of reality. To the psychopath, other people are nothing more than toys that respond to his instructions.
Skinner sounds like a smart guy, but his idea that man is a zero is far from true. It’s true that we’re all shut up to the same universe and must operate within it, but the individual cannot be denied. He is different from the interviewer and so on. Are the words he’s speaking and the hand movements he’s making not his own? Did he not agree or give his consent to this interview? Freedom and dignity cannot be completely eliminated, except in the mind, because they’re intrinsic to man.
"I'm talking about something *beyond* these things" Amazing how how people reliably can't hear what Skinner is actually saying, even in a short video that requires no reading.
Skinner is speaking in metaphors if you think about it. I don't know his perspective on being as if, but his stance on behavior reinforcement is everywhere in the world.
He is a smart guy. Genius guy. We perceive freedom, of course. He is also diferent from the interviwer. But they both are products of the billions happening throughout their lifes, which are products of billions of trillions happenings on their environment throughout history. It is complex and we will never predict the next move of the universe so precisely. But by his logic, there's only 1 possible next move. Now, that doesn't mean that we don't have "freedom". We do, it's just diferent from what we thought before. Freedon is to DISCOVER OURSELVES what will be the next move. Because we don't. The discovery is freedom. I hope we all have fun on the ride.
Do you think you know who you are? He says you are determined by your environment Your an object not a subject Ppl have criticized him for being a control freak saying he just wants to control people. But what is subjectivity?
@@devonashwa7977 I don't think your intent is translating well. Subject? Object? Like what Swami Sarvapriyananda says? Do I think I know who/what I am? Yes, I 100% know who/what I am.
Thank you for these amazing uploads!
B.F Skinner thank you 🕊
Marvelous speaker. Simple language but not simplistic. Rich inflection.
-- Well said.

Whats a cop? What’s a doctor? What’s a janitor? What’s a physicist? What’s a martial artist? Why do we choose to make these our professions?
We're all crazy mixed up people

In 2023 neuroscience confirms his thesis.
At 10.10 B J talks a lot of sense 🎉

We keep people benevolent if we pay them good wages so they can fund a life without fear.
Elaborate on that
smart man
If we don't have free will, then we cannot change our future and Dr. Skinner's exhortations to do so are ridiculous.
That opening walk was a bit awkward.
