if anybody was curious... the idea behind it is when you die the memory you enjoyed the most in life will be what brings you to the underworld (Like the grim reaper) in this case the patient died young and his most enjoyed memory was going to see a parade.

You have a very open mind with music and I thought that your reaction was lovely. My Chemical Romance has been a very influential band in my life that got me through rough times growing up, especially when I was in middle school. I still love them to this day. I know you said that the video itself was a little confusing to you. I think the premise is mostly based around the idea that even though death is inevitable, your memory will last in the hearts of minds of those who you have touched. You don't have to be a hero to be remembered. The "Black Parade" is something like the personification of death that comes to take you to the other side. Thank you for taking time to listen to them, I think that you would enjoy the sound of the rest of "The Black Parade" album and the album that they wrote prior to it, "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". I look forward to seeing more reactions from you :)

Though I'm sure it's been before I figured I'd reiterate the point of this song I guess. "Welcome to the black parade" is My Chemical Romances third album and it's a concept album based around the patient who is dying of cancer. The idea is that everyone sees death in their own sort of way and so the patient is remembering a memory of him and his father seeing a parade in the city and thus the black parade is created as his way of moving on. Each song in the album follows the patient somehow and this one is you could say, the main purpose because it explains this key idea. It's talking about how he has left the world and what memory will be taken by the people still living. So glad you did this song because My Chemical Romance is really important to me and I feel like this is a good example of what they did in this period of their time as a band.

To sum it up the character known only as "The Patient" has died of cancer. Gerard Way, the frontman, believes death comes for u in the form of ur greatest memory. The Patient's greatest memory was when his father took him to see a marching band when he was a boy, thus death has come for him in the form of "The Black Parade". Throughout the song Gerard tells him that its OK to pass on because his memory will carry on and he won't be forgotten as he joins the Black Parade and passes into the afterlife.

How i understand the song is, black parade is when people marches during your funeral in black and the medal represents a veteran. For me this is a song for the heroes of the country.
I always saw a strong Rock n Roll Animal by Lou Reed influence with this song and I’m so glad someone else picked up on their influences!!

The song is about death. “Joining the Black Parade” is a metaphor for dying.
Don't know if this was answered, but MCR used the Black Parade as a metaphor for death. The Black Parade album is basically an entire story about this man, the patient, who's dying of cancer, and of the Black Parade. Gerard Way, the vocalist, said in an interview that parades often harkened back to funerals (the New Orleans jazz funerals, processionals for deceased soldiers, etc.) so rather than have this spirit of whatever, Gerard thought it would be better to have something celebratory like a parade come at the moment of your death and lead you on to wherever you happen to be going.

Video is about the concept where when you die there is someone who guides you and it can be a family member a friend etc who has died but in the character's case it's a parade because of the fond memory of his father taking him to see a marching band

I only just stumbled upon your videos, but im already a big fan and appreciate your thoughts on music. If you haven't already, might i suggest listening to the album from start to finish? It might be bold of me to say, but it's comparable to pink floyds the wall in that it tells a narrative and the way each song transitions into each other greatly enhances the appreciation of the individual tracks and their place on the album.

in the video the guy died from what looks like cancer and is welcomed in to the after life by the black parade they give him a medal for going through all the pains he went through in life! and they sing that the people he left behind will carry on not to worry and his weary widow marches on! and then he goes off to the next stage!
I'm 11, and I'm into MCR, P!ATD, FOB, and other bands like that as well as (sort of off subject) Creepypasta. My dad said that he's for with it, seeing as HE USED TO LIKE THAT KIND IF STUFF AT MY AGE. He showed me Metallica and Led Zeppelin videos. From perspective it’s a part 1 of 4, alongside Cancer, The End and Dead
Every song in the album follows the same story though, but possibly not in order. I'd guess:
P has a happy childhood, with a notable experience of seeing a marching band with his father (Disenchanted/WttBP)
P's father dies (WttBP)
P joins the army much to his mother's dismay. (Mama)
He leaves the army after realising its cruel nature (Teenagers)
He splits up with his girlfriend (I Don't Love You)
He leads a reckless lifestyle (The Sharpest Lives)
He gets the news he has two weeks to live (Dead!)
He starts wondering what his legacy will be (How I Disappear)
He starts chemotherapy, gaining a reputation for joking around with the doctors and nurses. (Cancer/Blood)
He dies, leaving his siblings and aunt behind, experiencing the Parade as he enters the afterlife (Sleep/WttBP)
He goes to hell (House of Wolves)
P starts telling his story to the audience from the afterlife (The End)
Famous Last Words is a weird one. It takes place just after Cancer as he tries to make a last stand, but it's left open as to whether or not he's successful. If he isn't, he dies and goes to hell. If he was successful though then everything after Blood is simply what he imagines would have happened had he died.
As Mother War is also shown in the Black Parade MV, we can guess she also died sometime between Mama and WttBP.

Not really new lore when you think about it, the black parade hearkens to Louisiana tradition of lively music for funeral processions, bringing a more positive attitude toward passing away.
If you like Steampunk things, you should check out Abney Park and Steam Powered Giraffe. They're pretty neat.

I know this is a older video on your channel but the black parade is my favorite song by MCR so i thought to make this comment saying that the band is classified by the lead singer, Gerard Way, as alternate (and hates it when the band is called punk) as it is heavily influenced by Queen, Misfits, Black Flag, Iron Maiden, The Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Smiths/Morrissey. also the term the black parade is refers to a funeral recession or the celebration of the after life and the song talks about this in the way of knowing some day someone is going to leave you forever and excepting that early so that when it happens you aren't hung up on them forever.
