When I became interested in a Jimny back in 2020, your channel was a great guide. Forward to 2023 and I’m still enjoying my Jimny ánd your channel. Thanks Adrian! 🙌🏼
Been following your channel since the Jimny day... and since 5 doors variant just released last year, will Jimny ever be the star of this channel again?
What car, you have built for yourself man. you really turned that 2.4 into a real monster. been watching you since Jimny's days, keep showing us more footage and stay safe out there in the wild. Hope to meet you one day when you come back to Namibia.
Jesus man, this is really inspirational. I'm wanting to take on a long term project on building a long road trip and light overlanding rig to explore Australia and an ex-rental Hilux fleet vehicle is what I am looking at.
Awesome to hear! Just be rigorous on the maintenance when you take the vehicle over, if you can’t afford to do basically a full front to back on maintenance on parts like balljoints, bushings, bearings etc; then maybe think about buying something that’s been driven around town mainly 🤙🏻 if the price difference on the rental vehicle means you can get all those done and you know you’re in a great spot going forward, otherwise these trucks are bulletproof
Great Truck. I lamentingly hate that we don't get the Hilux here in the US. Just that little bit more reasonable compared to the monster trucks we have here.
Man, those Super Comfy chairs give me packing anxiety🤣🤣. My wife refuses to leave on a trip without them🤣. Geez they take up space in my Smartcap on top of my drawer system and 2 x 400mmF2.8 cases .🙂. It look tiny in this tray... I always wondered if the tray really gave more space. Question answered. Thanks for another awesome video....
Tell me about it haha! Luckily I travel on my own mostly so I have PLENTY of space for all my own comforts! I would love to add a couple of 400 F2.8's to that setup hahah!
Wow has time flown by. I remember you building out your Jimmy. 📺🛠 You have definitely built this out superbly for how you need it to perform 💪👍🌞🦏🐘🦒🦁🦓 20:41 on a quick side note... You are one of the few people who have setup their refrigerators so it opens to the cooking area. 😊
What an awesome setup bud, a true Overlanding Beast, in it's natural habitat. I've known for a while now that i need a suspension replacement upgrade, but the nail in the coffin, was just told the gearbox needs to come out. I feel so defeated. Thanks for the walkthrough, looks really mint. Safe Travels 😎🤙👊👍
Hi again Adrian, could you please tell me what the hight of your vehicle is? Floor to top of tent in closed position. My garage doors are just 242cm in hight, thank you.
Yup, didn’t I mention that? The first remap was way too hot and was damaging to the engine and turbo, the second remap has been better for sure I did it at KSD Tuning in Bellville
Have had the engine apart recently and from what I’ve seen, just the Catch Can has made a great difference to the inlet throttle body so far. Will be pulling the EGR early next year to inspect it. For now it’s all looking good though 🤙🏻
I do, it weighs a lot! Because the tray has a lot more volume, you can pack it quite a lot heavier than normal. But I usually run between 3.4-3.6T I am sure I have taken it close to 4T at times for 2 weeks offgrid with extra water and fire wood etc. Im running suspension than can handle max 4.2T basically, so I still have safe performance at high weights.
1. The x-series tray system is it a standard tray system? Or do they design it on what you want. 2. Also all your batteries and inverters and such did you buy this before hand or did bush tech themselfs offer you those options and you chose from them and they obviously did the design and layout with you for installation.? 3. My most important question. I do not want to sound stupid, the suspension when I buy this bakkie stock standard I need to calculate the weight that I am going to be adding to the vehicle. Before I do the suspension? Because I am going to be doing the same build not please let me know.😅 Please let me know I am starting my build soon need to get my facts straight.
Hey Denver! The Xseries tray is a standardised product, Bushtech can offer and install all the Redarc 12V System components. The vehicle will need a suspension upgrade after installing the tray, especially if youre going to put drawersystems, batteries etc in it. Let me know if you have any more questions!
Hi Adrian. Could you please tell me what the height of the vehicle is to the top of the tent? I have a max height of 242cm to enter my garage. Thank you. Ian
@@howlinghoundphotography6108 For me personally I would look at it because you can get GVM upgrades to 4.2Ton, its got a more robust front suspension and driveline. The v8 for example has a huge amount of torque and can pull a 3.5T vehicle around much easier. There are a couple reasons, but I think the gap closes a bit when you look at the LC79 being a 2.8 Auto now. It mainly comes down to the load carrying capacity and the solid front axle. But the reality is, with the amount of km's I do offroad, either vehicle will need some series maintenance.
@@RoamOverlanding I think as an all-rounder and daily drive the Hilux is better, but Land Cruisers are awesome vehicles. Land Cruiser fuel consumption not great unfortunately. Want to change my Pajero to either Hilux or Land Cruiser DC. Thanks for the great content.
I do, but its more for other people... the Hilux in south africa doesnt work with OBDII scanners properly... or atleast mine doesnt.. I believe it used OBD-M which needs a laptop with Techstream

An excellent guide to the options available to make a personal choice in kitting out one’s vehicle … well done Adrian
Its really been an amazing journey, this vehicle is a beast!
Very nice, and practical, Adrian. This video was very informative and gave me some good insights of what Im building. Thanks!
Excellent!
Just watched whistlingdiesel trying to emulate TopGear and destroy a Hilux. They're truly indestructible😅
Cool and very informative vid, thanks! Keep up the good work, brother!👌🙏
"Maybe it wont be the star of the show" 😲 im definitely interested
Been the first on that pontoon in 2011 right after raining season and it was fun!😅
I adore your bravery. I can’t sleep on that tent without a rifle in my hands.

Power brakes essential. Extra seal for airbox. Electrics nice. Very valuable. Are you travelling alone? My wife needs a bit more space….
Great video, great set up. Well done.

Everything is brilliant, i love it. Except for...THE COKE. STOP DRINKING COKE, ITS BAD FOR YOU!!. Just saying...,
Coke destroyed my teeth, but it's so nice😅 ASPW also drinks it😊

Thank you Adrian for sharing this information which will certainly help me with my build. How effective is the tray to combat dust ingress?
It’s incredible at sealing from dust, because you don’t have to contend with the normal tub which usually is the main culprit for letting dust in 🤙🏻
Hope in the future u will get a land cruiser 79 series v8
That would be awesome hey!

Do you have a link of the Bushtech rear seat delete kit? I cant find it on their website. Thanks
just pop them a mail on Sales@bushtech.co.za if you struggle to find it
Awesome video, hope that Deepfreeze compartment has some Magnums at all time
Hahha not at all times, but certainly a lot of the time!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you remap the ECU as well to get some more power out of the 2.4..?

Hi where dit you bought the Redarc EGT & Boost pressure Display?
Hi Piet! Redarc is distributed by 4x4 Megaworld, it’s a very specific part, so you will need to maybe speak to a manager at a store to get stock 👍🏻
Awesome set up there !!! What would you estimate the value of the hilux now with all the added features ?
Mine is obviously a bit extreme so somewhere between 300-500k additional on top of the vehicle
@@RoamOverlandingZAR?
@@martinotto1733 yup
did you ever consider putting 12v system in back sit ?
Can you please say how much did the whole build up cost..
It's around 400-500K on top of the cost of the vehicle.

what's the L/100 on tarmac and off road?
About 12.5-20 depending on conditions
