Ohhh yea work the bristles
Nice and moist
Seeing the glazes is what really helped. It seems like each time I try, I don't get it quite right. Having the visual aide is going to help loads! Thanks Juan, another top notch video!
Happy to help 😘
Make sure you dab your brush on a paper towel when you use the thinner glaze mix. It helps avoid putting too much on the model and getting tide marks
Very true!
As a new painter that struggles a lot with getting the right consistency for my paints this was very helpfull!! Many thanks and a happy new year to you and yours :)
Happy to help! Glad I could help you out
It's one of these things everyone assume you should know but nobody ever told you about. Even if it's really simple it's still super useful, thanks!
Thanks 😘
As a visual learner this was great. I struggle to actually make glazes and seeing seeing how opacity sits on the white is a great reference. I've been over watering so it won't stick properly but seems thin enough. That'll change now hipefully
Hope I could help you advance in your painting
Most useful mini painting video I have watched in months!
Thanks 😘
Hi there. It may seem basic to someone like yourself. But just having it explained and demonstrated made a big difference. Many thanks.
Happy to help
Juan, just wanna say, you really helped me improve my paintings skills since I started watching you. I'm subbed to various painting channels (they are great btw, so I'm not dissing them), but yours just really helped me. And I know this will come in handy too as I still sometimes struggle with good consistency.
Anyways, thank you again! And hope you'll have wonderful holidays!
Thanks 😘
I really appreciate it
I learn a lot in this very simplified video
2:25 was not expecting to be so turned on during this paint thinning tutorial. Thank you for that.
I just KNEW I was licking my brush wrong LMFAO! That sequence will stay with me for life!
As intended
Sleep well 😘
Juan, this video absolutely needed it's own standalone thing. I am very happy you made it, and it helps to watch someone's process.
Happy you found it useful
It might seem simple because you are a pro, but this made a huge impact on me! I have been using way too thick paint, blocking my details because I do so many layers of highlights and washes. I will use this tip moving forward.
Thanks, happy to help
Looking forward to watching this! One of those things I know I don't get right consistently. Thanks Juan as always for sharing the knowledge 😁❤
Always happy to help
This video has just rocked my painting world.
I've just picked up my brush again. I've always been inconsistent.
This like many have said is so beneficial to a visual learner like myself
Happy to help
This video was very helpful mate. Thanks for making it.
Thank you for making this video, I know it seems 'too basic' yet it's great to just see the process and what to aim for!
Thanks
Solid editing on the vid. The Michael Scott moment had me dying!
Thanks mate, I've learned a lot since I began making videos and editing is one of my favourite parts of this hobby
super helpful for a noob thanks!
Great video! I wish I'd known this when I started painting. I eventually worked this out on my own, but before that I used to try pre-mixing paint with water or medium and it's just terrible. I really like how you show a range of consistencies. One of the best paint thinning tutorials I've seen.
Thanks! I tried to be as thorough as possible
Thanks to this video, I now know how passionate I need to be with my brushes. Thanks Juan!!!
😂😂😂😂
Very is the answer 👅🖌️
I know it seems basic to you but this is very helpful for us newbies. Thank you.
Happy to help 😘
It's 00:18 Christmas day, I'm watching RUclips because I can't sleep but my wife was sleeping next to me, your little brush locking scene made me cry with laughter. Instant sub hahaha.
Hahaha, this made my day.
SUBS FOR THE SUBS THRONE!
Fantastic video as always. Informative and humorous. Thanks for the lesson and the laughs!
Happy to help in both fronts!
Juan,
I have to say that I really like your style of teaching. You are very funny and I love watching you work. Can I give you a big thank you for your showing me how to do things better than I did before. I am glad to have found your videos, even though I am late to the party. At least I got here in the end.
Thanks
So... was this demonetized for "adult content"?!
I unfortunately needed this really bad. Thank you so much.
Happy to help
Excellent video. Your first dramatic reenactment was literally me today, who for the first time used a wet palette 😂
It's very easy to fall into that, glad I could help you out
You are the ElectroBOOM of miniature painting. Got yourself a new sub and an appreciative painter.
That's probably the best compliment no one has ever told me.
Thanks 😘
OMG! Aside from the valuable technical take, I really needed the laugh this morning (week, month, year, etc.). I don't think I've laughed through a tutorial more than I did with this one. Thank you!!!
Lol, I really appreciate it. Glad I could make your day a bit better
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I'm just sorry I keep accidentally hitting the dislike button first on your videos. That's twice now. 🤦🏻♂️ I hope you see them being corrected to likes immediately after.
Dude, don't worry I don't get notifications on likes or dislikes. Also just so you know, like or dislike helps the video the same to gain visibility
The title isn't click bait if it's true. I was completely shocked by your brush licking lol.
But really awesome video and thanks for calling out a common trap people fall for all the time. As someone who has multiple paint lines I work from, having people not realizing each one requires different amounts of thinning to work right just drives me nuts. So I really appreciated you throwing that in while explaining the do's and don'ts. Keep up the awesome videos.
Thanks mate 😘
Thank you, really helpful video
Happy to help 😘
This was deffenatly worth it thx
And they call it clickbait....
HA!
Thanks! This is exactly the content I’m backing you on Patreon for (yes, the brush licking). 😉
Happy to provide satisfaction
Haha. Real pros lick their airbrush ;)
laughed all the way through. And a merry Christmas and happy new year to you and all the haters of the blue.
Merry Christmas to you too mate! 😘
Can't stop laughing at the brush licking sequence. Dear god, it's priceless. I literally have tears in my eyes from laughing.
Happy to provide satisfaction 😘
Thanks Juan! I came across your video as I was finding it extremely difficult to thin down the paints when layering, I'll have a go at using distilled water too.
Happy to help 😘
I *love* the brush licking.
You are a god among men, but even more so now :)
Thanks mate 😘
Thanks for doing this video, even if you didnt want to do it in the first place. For me it was very helpful. I painted a bunch of minis and have kinda high expectations towards myself, but also struggled with paint consistency. And I did exactly what you told not to do in the first place. So now I can change some things - thank you! Oh, and also my wife just came in my studio, while I watched this, so I paused the video to listen to her, which was the scene of your little....lickventure. So she WAS kinda confused :D
Thanks
This really helped me out a lot.
And people say it's clickbait... 😂😂
Happy to help 😘
Muchas gracias Juan por esta guía. me gusta mucho como te expresas
Gracias a ti guapetón 😘
I just came for the brush leaking techniques, but I have learned so much more :D
😂😂😂
the brush licker kill me..instant subscription
SUBS FOR THE SUBS THRONE!
Merry Christmas Juan
Merry Christmas you beauty 😘
Thank you thank you thank you. I had no idea.
Happy to help 😘
Thank you , Juan .
🐺
Yup , lickers unite ! , hehe 🤪
Hahahaha
Thanks mate 😘
Yes! Great series. Really looking forward to more technical content.
Thanks! I will, this was fun to make
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Thanks 😘
Fantastic and fun video. Thanks! Subbed.
SUBS FOR THE SUBS THRONE!
Definitely a very helpful video, thanks! I never seem to get paint consistency right.
Happy to help 😘
Great video, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. You mentioned your Citadel paints were already thinned and in droppers vs. pots. Can you share tips here for this process and the materials? Thx!!!
Distilled water, that's all you need.
I add water, shake well, cut the lid and tip into the droppers. That's all
Give blue a chance! Thanks to you my Slaanesh Astartes are painted an obnoxious pastel blue. That Skink skin paint video was a huge help, thanks again!
Happy to spread the word of the Dark Prince as evidenced by this video
Brilliant - I have already adopted this!
AWESOME
So funny and well executed
Thanks 😘
UGH MY PKCELL solid reference that earned you a sub
Thanks mate 😘
Best RUclips channel ever
Brush licker! 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for this info! Keep it up!
Thanks 😘
Grandísimo vídeo. Has desbancado al duo humorístico Giovani di Lena/Alfonso Giraldez de largo😂. En serio, muy útil y didáctico ❤️
Gracias guapo 😘
That dank pods reference really hit me
Best RUclipsr ever
Great video, it's always nice to learn how other people thin their paints. However, I missed you testing each dilution on your thumb so I could go back and compare it to your other videos
I didn't because I was already doing that in the palette which is more clear and easy to visualize, but the names are the same, so of I say a Heavy Glaze you know what consistentcy to aim for.
"Interesting, he has a battery in frame at the start of the video, reminds me of DankPods"
00:48 - Amazing, two of my worlds combine.
Oh, a man of culture
Dude, i love your Videos. You helped me get on the next level of painting.
Thanks mate, I really appreciate it
This video was so helpful! I'm been overloading my brush with water while thinning but I never put 2 and 2 together! I'm also a brush licker so no shame homie sfghdf
Happy I could help
Thanks really helpful
Happy to help
Click bait title? no. new vid by Juan? Hell yes, play now, right to the top of the queue
VIEWS FOR THE VIEWS GOD
Totally worth watching!
And they say it's clickbait...
HA
Best video yet... love the colour choice 🤮
My fingers are still tinted blue, not sure it was worth it
Such a funny painter! 🤣
Thanks! That's all I really care about
That's a pretty dank looking pkcell....
😂😂😂
I genuinely tried to order some genuine ones for the joke, sadly they're not available here.
Love your video, so nice!
Thanks 😘
You turned me into a brush licker and it actually is the best way to get the perfect tip to the brush. Once you lick, you can never go back.
That's what my wife says!
Dam man, i was painting a face when you did the brush licking bit, i was laughing so i got highlight color all over it, cool video as always
😂😂😂
Thanks mate 😘
Fantastic guide
Thanks 😘
Had to watch it four times. The brush licker bit had me on the floor.....
Thanks 😘
I watch so many videos (and don't paint yet), but this was soooo informative! This is a base knowledge no one packs into such a short and great video.
In a "how to paint" Playlist, this should be on position 1 (or 3, if you want to teach people how to open a bottle and hold a brush)

U are wired but fun! Thx for the info! Don’t change!
I don't on doing it
Thanks 😘
Hahaha! Seriously, that was really helpful!
Happy to help 😘
The only issue I have with this type of thinning on the wet palette (which I agree is better) is where I live is hot so the air con is on a lot and the dry cool air dries the thinned paint quickly even on the wet palette.
Even so, it's better. You just rehydrate the paint and keep on going
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures True. Depending on the paint but most are fine
"Just the tip" LOL
THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!
The brush licking bit made me click subscribe. 😄
👅🖌️
Here it is!
Indeed, it is here
Please do one for contrast paints and how you use them, since that part is always out of the camera
I put a drop in the palette, I load my brush
That's it
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures is it a wet palette or a dry palette in that case?
Same palette for everything
I, for one, am shocked!
😂😂😂
You are hilarious 🤣
Thanks mate 😘
Lol the PKCell deep cut!
🤣🤣🤣
Omg @2:25 I burst out laughing! Thanks JH :)
Happy to help 😘
Hilarious and super useful - Thank you! Still cant bring myself to lick my brushes though 🤣
It just takes one little lick and you will be sold forever 😉
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatureshaha 🤣
Juan, since I've started watching your videos I've come leaps and bounds in terms of my brush painting skills. I have always been a better airbrush painter but your excellent teaching skills have helped me so much in a short amount of time. Some videos on RUclips just aren't as in-depth and practical as your videos.
I'm wondering if you would know the best colours to use to paint Helbrecht in your style? I'm really looking forward to painting this model!
Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
Thanks!
Do you want a challenge? Use my How to Paint - Copper NMM video plus any of the Marines videos for the rest!
I didn't realize that everyone doesn't lick their brushes. The difference between the way I do it and you do it ... I don't look into anyone's eyes and make them feel uncomfortable
That's how I eat bananas as well
I too am a brush eater. This will be helpful with glazes, I never get them right.
Glad to help!
You are right. I'm doing all of them wrong
Where you shocked by number 14,5? That is a good one.
My biggest mistake that I need to adjust is using those cheese pallets with bowls. They are only ment to hold a few ml of paint but there is no surface area to drag out the paint and control how thin it goes. Pretty much an all or nothing. Other than that I love the 4 thinned side by sides as this gives us a very nice visual of what we mean by thin, to glaze
Yeah, I never use those things, just put washes in your palette normally, much better control.
So, thanks
The pk cell thing cracked me up...
Who doesn't love Dank Pods?
Y gracias guapo 😘
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Gracias, tendré que suscribirme
Haha fun video! Cheers.
Thanks 😘
Yep, I lick my brushes as well, even when using oil based paint. I also regularly clean my brushes in my coffee by accident. I'm a true painter!
You are already living in the year 3000
Looking forward to getting the new redgrass palette. I've only tried to create ones myself and they were always a mess.
It's a beautiful product and the new membranes are absolutely amazing
Very funny video. Now I know why all the wet palettes of the cool kids on RUclips look like this, and not like my big blobs. Please though… no more brush licking footage! [shudder]🤣
But it's so sexy.... 😘
You make all glazes with only water? Is there any reason to ever use water AND medium?
You don't need it, but use it if you find water to be too difficult
Jajajajaja, qué momentos tan sensuales con el pincel, subes la temperatura a este invierno frío y gris, felices fiestas, un abrazo enorme 😜🖌
Gracias guapo 😘
