- Not since Marvel Now and Marvel All-New, All-Different has the publisher put out such a putrid line of new books. Marvel Comics are going full 2014 on customers all over again. The problem? These exact initiatives are what drove fans away tobegin with. The Avengers, Daredevil, Captain America and Champions are full of heroes fighting heroes, race swaps, gender swaps and every other cliche that ruined Marvel Comics over the past decade. Wes explains how Marvel fans have been stuck in the worst version of Groundhog Day of all-times for a decade. Screw me, Marvel are going full 2014 on us again!

Marvel has the same problem as DC. They don't realize that fans don't like the stuff with their characters and they live in their own bubble.
Also they recycle shit or don’t allow character development.
They have a lot hacktivists working in either company. Both prefer fanfic writers. Heck DC had a livestream were they admitted writing gay bed time stuff with Tim Drake and Connor kent fanfics when they were teenagers, they still love those stories aboot teenage boys WHILE THEY R ADULTS.

Remember when Marvel redesigned Mystique to look like the movie version? Remember when they got rid of Nick Fury to replace him with his black son that no one ever heard of before, who was an inexplicable doppelgänger of Sam Jackson? There’s synergy, and then there’s stupidity.
Also, I think Bendis’s nadir was when he turned Iceman gay. His writing on Riri, as well. Absolutely godawful stuff.
Marvel did many erros in the past, like erase totally the clone saga, one more day, deleting all mutants for money reasons, make the FF disappear, but the START of modern day marvel disrespect for the characters was the gay iceman, they ignored tens of years of stories to insert a pandering for the HDTV mob!

I've never been interested in Sam Wilson as Captain America. The four issue Falcon limited series from the early 80's and The Falcon's appearances in the old Power Man And Iron Fist series are my favorite version. I liked that street level kind of Falcon.

Marvel are walking in cycles since the 2000's. Nobody deserves a new AvsX event again. And this new Sam Wilson comic is because of the upcoming MCU movie only. I'm so tired of Marvel and your mediocre comics. The things don't will improve because modern Marvel killed the essence of classic Marvel forever. I used to be very bothered by this kind of thing. Until, looking at things objectively, I came to the conclusion that the real, original Marvel Universe ended in 2005.
I base this not on personal taste, but on the fact, that in that year practically all Marvel titles underwent deep, simultaneous retcons. Black Panther, was the one that changed the most.
I believe that there was a conscious initiative that year, to do a secret reboot, to accommodate a new group of writers and editors, who had only a superficial knowledge of the Marvel Universe, and no interest in learning about the continuity or the characters.
That's why I no longer care about the direction they're taking, because the characters I liked are lost somewhere in limbo, and these new versions don't interest me.
I'll do you better: for me, it ended with Hickman's Secret Wars (2015),whuch makes sense as everything you know about Marvel literally got destroyed!
Carol Danverse has been a villain since Civil War 2. Seeing the writer is attached, it'll be about how she's the bestest evar.

This would've been their shot. DC has been disappointing me, for almost 15 years now. Marvel has the chance to call over to a disappointed DC fan, but they're doing the same things. Stupid events, trying their best to devalue the heroes that built their success, and hiring people who clearly hate superheroes and the fans. Some may claim to love it, but then go on a tangent about how they don't see themselves in the book. So, let's just change everything. So what if you'd rather see heroes team up rather than fight, and classic heroes leading the charge, or positive relationships, or villains that are just villains instead of "misunderstood" lost souls. Tough. You're getting the skewed "Good is Bad and Bad is Good" perspective, and no heroes come out better, following the event. In fact, people are turned off.
I stopped reading Marvel even before I stopped reading DC. I see now that there's no reason to give them another chance. Strictly DC back issues, still.
They had opportunity to elevate Elektra with Daredevil away, and instead they just decided to mooch off of Daredevil's name. Now, they will likely never go back to her being Elektra, she'll just be "Lady Daredevil" or something from here on out.
Elektra is my favorite character and this truth saddens me deeply

It’s hard to believe this has been going on for a full decade now, 10 entire years of this trash, and it’s still not gone, but I do think people are finally fed up with it, gamers are pushing back hard now, all these prog games are crashing hard, hundreds of millions lost.
Can we just make a comic book where Peter Parker wakes up from a coma, after being poisoned by the Scorpion, with Mary Jane at his side. We realize that all of this crazy BS was Peter’s fever dream. No Paul, no Superior Spider Man, no Jack pot, and no Spider Boy. But until then, make mines Sky Bound!!
Superior was pretty good, but if I were to get a chance to retcon Marvel, it and a lot of other decent runs would be shifted off to a another timeline and we’d get the old Marvel Universe back.
I’ve got it all worked out, and it would start when the heroes came back after Onslaught. Yeah, you’d have to go back that far.
Unfortunately a retcon like that would never happen at Marvel.

@@cahe6161 I would say earlier. There was some good stuff in the early 2000s though, but to truly fix what’s wrong with Marvel, you have to go pre-Bendis, pre-JMS on Spidey and pre-Brubaker on Cap, even pre-Civil War.
The events could have still happened but in another timeline now.
Go back to Heroes Return and start fresh and this time, Marvel, listen to the customers, we know what we need to see in the comics better than you do.

Peak Bendis and then Brubaker had that comic firing on cylinders for years on end... And it's mostly sucked for over a decade since
Marvel Now had good intentions but in the end it triggered the collapse of the comic book industry.
Zdarksy's Daredevil, which started out half okay, tanked when Daredevil returned to jail somewhere around 25 issues in (as always Zdarsky rips off recent stories from more talented writers, Brubaker in that case.)
Elektra DD was always bad
So basically i can rest assured that my comic book collected will have a comic book published by marvel or dc after 2014.
Meanwhile, my list of regular books are french bande dessinée keeps rising

Carol Danvers is going 2 be the obvious bad guy again in story, while mainstream media is pretending she is the hero. They did same thing with Civil War 2.
That captain Falcon comic is just coming out because of the Captain Falcon: The disease order is coming out soon.
The Winter Soldier and Falcon show was awful, they pretended that the clear cut bad guys were good guys and Falcon siding with them, making Falcon a villain whom pretends 2 be a hero.
Elektra as Daredevil is showing that she can't be anything without Daredevil, what is a great insult towards the character. But Marvel (and DC) hate actual strong woman, they want weak women that pretend 2 be strong like Carol Danvers has been since she larps as Captain Marvel.
Lots of these "New Champions" characters have shown up during Spider-Woman comics. They r so bland. This "New Champions" comics reeks of those "New Warriors" comics with Snowflake and Safespace.
Spider-Gwen supposed 2 be a What If Gwen got bitten by spider instead of Peter. But than some "writers" didn't get that memo and ruined that universe, same "writers" didn't understand M.O.D.O.K.. Than into the Spider-Verse movies made her even worse, were she supports child abuse.
Spider-Punk was interesting until some "writers' wrote comics and didn't understand Punk and ruined the character. He now sides with authoritanism while pretending 2 be against it. He is basically a villain.
I miss when the MCU wasn’t around so that tumblr creatives couldn’t just do the same thing on the page they see on the silver screen.

Out of the 5 years I’ve been reading comics, I’ve noticed a pattern with dc and marvel. They always introduce a lot of new characters no one likes, crap on and ruin the established characters then they do some big reboot where things seem to go back to how people want. Within a year or so we end up going right back to how things were, rinse and repeat.

The reason that I don't hear anyone talking about that wokestream comics just keep getting worse seemingly unchecked is because Disney and WB (respectively) can just write off Marvel and DC (respectively) as vanity projects.
I'm constantly surprised that Marvel comics remains in business. Disney doesn't need them AT ALL, but the drain on the pocket book must be so small that they might legit be skating by on the change from the couch cushions.
They hate Elektra so much that they don't even let her have her name on the cover of her own books.

Erica Schultz did alright on Hallows' Eve. Janine wasn't suddenly a girl boss getting validation from everybody. She was scared, weak at times, she made mistakes, she was conflicted between wanting to be a hero and wanting to hate Peter for what she thought was his betrayal of Ben. I'm not saying it was comic book of the year, but Schultz didn't come across as one of these activist types like the Tini Howards or Alyssa Wongs of the the world. Maybe she does in the Electra Daredevil books, which I am not reading.
That said, I still have no idea why they didn't hand Hallows' Eve over to J. M. DeMatteis, who was writing for Marvel at the time and created the character in the first place (at least, he created Janine Godbe).

Marvel comics started going downhill since 2012. Also seriously the avengers and every other hero should be hunting down and arresting the X-Men for all the atrocities they committed during krokoa.
I understand and agree with killing when necessary but the X-Men went way to far and the fact that they were enjoying and relishing in slaughtering people is messed up, the X-Men are straight up irredeemable villains.
And even after the krokoa era, they showing no remorse for everything they did.
Also I absolutely hate Captain Marvel, she is not a hero and is just as bad as the X-Men.
No one visits the fictional world (comics, books, movies) to have hardcore ideology, uninspiring, fake and lazy stories thrown to their faces. That's Marvel/DC reality after the start of year 2014. It would be easier if these modern "creators" just started their own company where even by making original and some rip-off characters make everything exactly like they wanted with no "legacy" attached to it. Hard to say if - they can't or don't want to create a new world with new possibilities. Easy to make themselves and their potential audience happy.
Dude, can we stop inventing new versions of the characters and work on what you have already invented? This contanstant of new things without working nothing loses its grace quickly. How are these characters going to become cool things that people like if they don't put in the effort to make them spectacular or stand out? I genuinely hate to see how much Marvel teenagers don't want to stand out at all and just be version 2, 3, 6 of other characters.

Jed McKay is a terrible writer. Overhyped and overrated. None of this surprises me. Both Marvel and DC have nothing new to offer. Absolute DC looks like total dreck and Marvel, not content to rest on their laurels, looks like they want to out do them on the garbage front. Marvel always dominated the collectors side of the business. If their books are bad, but make top positions, there is a chance that readers left the market, while collectors stayed. I don’t read their books, so I don’t know of their currently bad or good, but this is a potential alternative explanation.

A V X IS NOT AWFUL. Despite how much Wes pushes this message he is wrong. Both storyline wise and sales wise. The build up was great and everyone loved that story. I know I was there to sell it and read it. And every time he says this I am going to counter the argument. But that is like best time...Brubaker...Remender....Fraction...Bendis....go read it for yourself. Now what came after AvX...that is open for debate. Falcon Cap....no really don't want it. The uber violent stories...well sorry to say to Wes they actually do sell. So you may not like the idea, but the fans do. Seen that from the register too. Also Elektra doesn't sell...but this kind of story will have some legs. Go look at sales on previous Elektra series...they don't move unless mega star is attached to it. Champions...yeah that looks like total garbage. It has failure written on it. Try the originals or let it go. No other versions sell at all. WFT20.

Even watching Endgame now I hate when Steve hands shield to Sam and not Bucky. Bucky is only one can do it, and even then its interim at best. Brubaker showed that.

I consider AVX 2012 to be the worst comic crossover event in Marvel history, it was a horrible ending to the Endangered Species/Utopia arch of X-Men for the sake of separating them from the popularity of Spider-Man and The Avengers, no respect to Hope as a character and proving she was just a deus ex machina in Messiah CompleX, disrespecting the decades of lore the X-Men went through saving the world and the multiverse itself.
AVX is when I finally understood mainstream comics are nihilistic to fully care for or find purpose in rereading, because some writer some day with too much power will while away the decades of history you poured into caring for these stories. The standards need to change, the fact that early 2000s Ultimate Spider Man omnibus’ and a majority of X-Men pre-Astonishing are the only ones I’ve kept in my collection is saying a lot. I’m considering Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man, but besides that, I have no interest investing in the mainstream universes.

I actually liked the Sam Wilson Captain America books from a decade ago. They had some fantastic artists like Stuart Immonen and Daniel Acuna, and the stories were interesting enough. The last Sam Wilson Cap book, though couldn’t hold me for more than six issues. I’m not against the ideas of giving mantles to other characters , esp if a relationship exists between the old guard and the new (nobody cried “woke” when Jim Rhodes took over for Tony Stark as Iron Man in the 80s). Just give us great writing and artists as talented as Immonen and Acuna and I may spend my money.

If I was writing an all-new Champions Of Los Angeles comic book, I would just ditch the inferior all-different team of super heroes that they are using now and get the superior first founding members back from the original comic book from the 1970s.
That super hero team (Angel/Archangel (Warren Kenneth Worthington III), Iceman (Robert "Bobby" Drake), Hercules (Herakles), Ghost Rider (John Blaze/Zarathos), the Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), Darkstar (Laynia Petrovna), and Dr. Bill Foster (formerly Black Goliath and Giant-Man)) would have all of them join forces in L.A. again in order to fight against Pluto (Hades) who is trying to conquer all of California, using the current economical, political and social upheavals in that failed American State to enslave the denizens of Los Angeles.
The Champions must fight against Pluto who is using the crazy homeless people, drug addicts and drug dealers, and gang members to create an evil army that will attack and invade the areas of the city that are not yet affected by the crime-ridden places that are ruining the city.
With the increase in deaths of the human population and with the senseless, wholesale destruction of the city, and county of Los Angeles itself, Pluto's power as the ancient Greek and Roman god of death will increase. Hercules cannot allow his arch-enemy, his evil uncle, to extend his power through domination, and expand his influence through genocide. Even the current illegal foreigner crisis is helping him accomplish his ambition easy and fast.
The Champions have only one goal to achieve: protect the "City of Angels" and save its general human populace from Pluto at all costs. But how can these six costumed, super-powered super heroes and super heroines effectively go off on great adventures, and professionally fight crime when the current corrupted and greedy Governor of California State is using the power of his State's government to go after the Champions?
The Los Angeles Police Department and the local, city government, in the eyes of the law, see the professional adventurers, professional adventuresses, and professional crime fighters as nothing but vigilantes who are just as much of a problem as the professional criminals are, if not even more so because they are several superhuman beings and superhuman mutants. With various costumed, super-powered super-villains running amok unfettered across the land, the Champions have an uphill battle and are beset on all sides.
Marvel Comics should be writing a comic book story just like that, with super hero characters that are actually worth reading about. The current unimaginitive comics and super heroes featuring the Champions do nothing to increase popularity, and do nothing to increase sales. Disney has made Marvel into something pathetic and useless, without any meaning or purpose.

I didn’t like neither the book or movie version of Stardust.
I like both the movie and book version of The Princess Bride. Something that you neglected to say was that the William Goldman wrote both the book and the movie.
I was going to give uncanny X-men a chance but it’s already having a crossover 7-8 issues in. I don’t want to buy multiple books, I don’t care about these events. Uncanny X-men is also pushing a group of new characters. If I wanted to read about kid mutants then I would read exceptional x-men.
Where has brand recognition gone to, it used to be New Mutants for kid mutants?
@@davidgantenbein9362 yeah. I feel like they are using a lot of titles just to push these newer characters. Like tricking us to buy a comic thinking it’s about the character we like and we get some crappy new character we don’t care about for the majority of the book.
@@ryanwilliams7639 That has definitely become a major issue for buyers. But it’s also a trap for them as those buyers that lost trust will not buy purely on covers/characters anymore. The more an industry forces buyers to invest time into research, the less likely becomes impulsive buying and the amount of sales goes down (not everyone will invest so much time into research). Bait and switch is ultimately a strategy that forces buyers to adapt and adapting often means buying less.

I thought we all realized that putting Carol in any place of power was a bad thing way back during Civil War 2. Also, Wanda and Magneto already dealt their history. They had an entire arc dedicated to that *only a few years* back. Why do writers keep ignoring whenever the Scarlet Witch deals with her issues.
