It will be nice when the judicial system realize and recognize that all citizens and permanent residents are equal under the law. No protected individuals or groups. I guess that's too much to hope for from judges who value ideology and activism over society sustaining values.

When will the Coalition tell judges to pass tougher sentences?
Labour told them to reduce sentences
So the Coalition can make them pass tougher sentence

    • @andrewoh1663

They cannot "tell judges to pass tougher sentences" and if Labour did, they breached judicial independence. What they can do is write law that doesn't give judges any wriggle room to let crims off lightly.

@andrewoh1663 I've been watching some feeds from UK - the sentences of various criminals, extremely interesting. The judge starts of "under law the starting point is XX years" and they do not verify too much. One lad was involved with a murder (he didn't do it, but was there), minimum time to serve, taking into account is youthful mistake, 12 years.
We need the laws to clearly state the minimum sentences. Our system is far too soft.

I'm going to address the issues you raised, not having a go at you.
Sick leave, fron 5 to 10 days. The majority of my employees now use 10 days of sick leave a year. When I was their age (and an employee) I used perhaps 15 sick days over 25 years of working.
Extra public holidays- as with extra sick leave, the customer always pays as costs must increase to cover extra. All business owners are not rich or wealthy. I believe we are all aspirational. School lunches, I worked for years on low wages and yes, I applied and got working for families. WFF was to help with the costs if the children. They never went hungry, were clothed appropriately and pur home was warm. We were NOT wealthy or rich. My parents grew up in the depression of the 1930's. I grew up in the 1970's. I know not to waste.
I would love to tell an underperforming employee 'back to work or get another job' - employers simply can not do that. Simple, if an employee 'abandoned their work' - still I can not end their employment until we give give them multiple opportunities to come vack to work. 10 days paid domestic violence leave.
In the business world, the hardest thing is staff, not getting business, not pleasing customers, not doing taxes, not working 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's staff. Ask any employer.
