Thank you man. I didn't mean to get all chatty here. I'll gladly join your fan page, so thanks for pointing it out.
As for this election, this definitely was a very underrated one in the history books. Yes, it said Nixon had over 300 to Humphrey's 190 or whatever it was. But it was a very competitive election popular vote speaking. So just a few thousand more votes in a few states, Nixon might have lost. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing videos ..my memories watching this as an 11 year old Nixon supporter have come back.

So striking and noticeable how they keep talking down George Wallace, 'ignominious failure', etc. This was the most successful third-party candidacy of the latter half of the 20th century in terms of actual electoral clout (which is the only thing that matters, by the way, for the popular vote fanatics around).

It's alright, nothing wrong with that! I appreciate it!
This election's easily one of the more interesting ones for sure, All three guys were greats in their field's at what they did and they had a battle for the ages. The reason it's not talked about is because of 1968, a ton of people hated it and don't want to talk about the year at all. Your right the race was very close!

2:48 is Joseph Benti. After being dropped from the CBS News network by Nov 1970, he returned to Los Angeles anchor KABC Eyewitness News until 1973. When he moved to Southern California, Joe and his family moved to the home sold by NBC's Tom Brokaw (Tom moved east by 1973). By the early & mid 70s, he had a 6 year relationship with anchor Christine Lund. Then Joe returned to KNXT Ch 2 where he anchored for 6 years until he quit in the spring of 1979. Connie Chung from CBS News Washington co-anchor with him by 1976.

It is interesting to see how Dan Rather's hair evolves. Compare his Dallas '63 hair to Watergate '74.

I remember watching this in 1968 as a 3rd grade school assignment. I remember the font used for the tallies. This just makes me miss Walter Cronkite compared to today's anchors. I prefer the older radio newsmen like Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley, Howard K Smith, Bob Shieffer (just retired last year), Charles Osgood, Charles Kuralt.

I guess Vanderbilt thought it was going to be another 1964 type night as they allowed only 4 hours of tape per network. I don't know how much those 1 hour reels for the monochrome table-top models cost in 1968, but it CAN'T have been cheap.

They both had different companies computers. CBS has IBM and NBC had RCA so they were all over the place even though the media pools started by then.

Interesting: CBS did an exit poll in California. Also, CBS seemed more aggressive in making their calls - they called Pennsylvania earlier. CBS was earlier than NBC in suggesting California was the key state. NBC seemed to suggest Nixon was ahead earlier, but then Chancellor kind of back off that later in the night.

efan2011, you've done good work with these videos -- just thought I'd say. I've watched pretty much all of them, even though I haven't contacted you. Anyway, I know you're conservative and I'm liberal, but if you have a Facebook, I can add you if you want. E-mail me your name sometime and I'll search for you. We'll hit it up sometime.
