J. Pachelbel, Ciacona in F Minor / Wim Winters, Historical 1808 Van Peteghem Organ, Buizingen (B)

- In this little village Buizingen, near Brussels, Belgium, you will find this little organ standing in the choir of the Sint-Vincentius church. This one manual organ has been built in 1808 by Van Peteghem and brought back to life in 2019 by the Dutch organ builder Verschueren. Your servant acted here as consultant for this restoration.
!!You'll find the list of Stops I used below!!
Pachelbel (1653-1706) might seem to be a little bit too early for an instrument built in 1808. Partly that's true of course though the Van Peteghems (which worked for generations) were rather conservative in the way they built organs. And so, what you hear in this recording could very well be built half a century earlier. And more importantly, this music simply sounds fantastic here.
It was a pleasure to work with that cold winter-day (12°C in the church!) with:
*Johan Zoutendijk, director of Verschueren Orgelbouw
*Hans van der Gouwe, VDGRecords and partner
*Hubert Sergeant, member of the church council Sint-Vincentius and a fighter for this organ since many many years.

This... This is probably one of the most touching, and brilliant interpretations of one of my favorite pieces by Pachelbel. Very well done, Mr. Winters!
Just so beautiful... no words can be said that describe the beauty.
I got teary-eyed not gonna lie..
Same here...😢😂😭😇☝️🙏
Me too!
wow, just wow
What a beautiful instrument, a beautiful performance, and a stunning composition!
This is a definitive performance, doesn't get any better than this. Bravo!
Whatever I say won't do it justice... Thank you for sharing.
Wim. Beautiful, beautiful in calmness and resonance ❤️
The organ sounds so sweet!
I was waiting so long to hear you play organs, Wim. Thank you.
The organ is the intellects passage to greatness when he is finished learning from the piano.
I have no words for this masterpiece: composer, organ builder, and master. Sublime!
In a past life, I worked briefly for an organ builder, mostly handling repairs and tuning as an apprentice. While I was fascinated by all organs, the most interesting ones were the small tracker instruments that were built to last centuries if properly maintained. To see the workings of this venerable instrument is a real pleasure, almost as much a pleasure as listening to your performance, which is sublime. Thank you very much for posting this performance.
Spettacolare!!!Non ci sono parole per descrivere questo bellissimo organo, complimenti Maestro per la magistrale esecuzione.
Does anybody else recognize Buxtehude’s Ciacona in E Minor (BuxWV 160) in that main theme? It makes the communication between artists of this period in time so evident, same as the relationship between Bach and Buxtehude. The greats borrowed from the greats, inspiring the best. What a time it was for music.
It's interesting in Baroque music to note that this descending is a fairly common motif (Pachelbel, Biber, Lully, Buxtehude).
Great to hear you playing organ again, Wim
Thanks also from me to Johan Zoutendijk, director of Verschueren Orgelbouw

Very beautiful. Thank you, Wim.
I like this piece so much, especially the single high note that keeps returning in the beginning. I cannot play the piano very well and that is an understatement and not modesty, but I can play the beginning of this piece and some of the variations. And I am very glad I can. So nice to hear it played as it should be played.
Silbermann, eat your heart out!
Of course I'm joking, but what a rich sound from a small instrument. And wonderfully played. Thank you, Wim!
What a wonderful gift! On a 'little' great organ, by so a precise and 'sensitive' performer, one would spend the whole day hearing ciaccone!
What a coincidence! Just learned more about Pachelbel music on the radio while driving. And then this video came out. Not many words... Simply sublime ✨
Unbelievably beautiful and moving. Sounds like it was written for that instrument. Such delicateness in every aspect. The trill at 1:18 is my favorite spot of the whole song.
A moving piece played so masterfully. Thank you Wim.
It's wonderful to see and hear you play the organ. What a beautiful sounding instrument and performance! It appears to be a very successful restoration. I'd love to see a series of you playing the historic organs of Europe - that would be quite a treat. Thanks
One word, Bravo!
I see at least two single beatniks viewed the video..
Sublime. A truly artistic performance that demands the listener to focus on the art. School of Velocity this is not, but I feel like my soul has been improved by just listening to this.
This is such an amazing piece. Wonderful to hear you play organ!
Wim, whenever you have the chance, just throw some organ music in the channel. It will be surely loved!!!
Wonferful, moving performance. Thanks Wim
Bravo, gorgeous sound from that instrument
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever heard such beautiful organ music! Beautiful timbres!
Made me shed a tear. Beautiful piece, and what a sound, I think I prefer this smaller, softer sound to some huge organ where you pull all the stops.
Ohhh Wim,zo mooi en zalig om je nog eens op orgel bezig te horen, waar het allemaal mee begonnen is,heel mooi stuk...!!!
Wat klinkt dit mooi, Wim!
Beautiful! Thank you for this!
I love Pachelbel, both to hear and to play. You are truly a magnificent organist, Mr. Winters.
Wonderfully peaceful music, wonderfully played. Thanks, Wim, you brought joy to a rainy evening.
Lovely performance, with wonderful rubato. The stop changes are musically executed, too . What a great instrument and acoustic... thanks!
Wow. I enjoyed that very much. Thank you.
Wow... Very beautiful...
That was lovely!
Excellent upload, from every aspect: the choice of the piece and the registration for each variation, the actual playing, the sound of the instrument and the photo-editing. Bravo for all these and for your courage to play in 12 c. degree! Thanks a lot for sharing with us this unique experience.
Beautiful playing and your registrations give a comprehensive demonstration of the instrument's capabilities
. I especially appreciated the"grands jeux" at Variation 9.
Very wonderful pièce of music !
Meraviglioso!
Wonderful
Beautiful piece, beautifully played!
I have waited SO long to hear you play the organ! A marvelous recording.
Also glad to hear somebody who does as I do and changes registration O-M each variation.
@AuthenticSound what are your thoughts on playing the repeats on a softer registration (assuming you have two manuals available) on the second pass, similar to the Scheidt, etc echo fantasias?
Heavenly, that melody is stunningly beautiful
Wow! Beautiful!!!
this is beautiful in so many ways, thank you!
I think this is the best version of this piece I've ever heard. I really like it. Perfect tempo and registration. I especially loved that tremolo at the end. Very moving rendition. Thanks.
Lovely and moving performance on a wonderful instrument. Well done!
Wat fijn om van je horen, Wim. Prachtige muziek op een prachtig instrument, en knap uitgevoerd. Groeten uit Tongeren.
Wow, this organ works very well for this..
Wow what a gem!
Everytime I see one of your videos, I think of organ music. Especially Bach's organ music seemed to me always to be played far to fast. The notes blur into each other easily in fast passages, and what you get is a very muddy sound, very hard for the listener to distinguish the pitches, and understand what's going on. A much much slower tempo seems so much more musically and makes so much more sense to me.
That's always the crazy thing to me about people who are obsessed with historically informed performance with organ music; they're obsessed with baroque organs because of how clear and articulate they are, but when it comes to playing Bach they always seem to want to rush it in a way that makes the beautiful harmony and counterpoint impossible to really hear.
This comes. Organists where playing too fast because they had no idea about expressivity. But with some studies, we know Bach was to be articulated in a differenciated manner. And this only in moderated tempi (at least so that it can be perceived). The new generation of organists will have this on their syllabus. No more "personal" interpretations, but historical interpretations.
CaptainBohnenbrot this is musical fact for organ
Well done Vim. Excellent recording!
The flute stops are incredible!! Lovely playing
Such a sweet sound.
Lindo! Perfeito! Divinal! Impecável performance!
Thank you for sharing this.
Excellent, bro!!!!
Bravo!!!👏👏👏
How nice tone!
In Japan, there are many churches haven't a even little pipe organ.
A very "Don Benito Juárez" day off FIRST! to you, Wim and to the Authentic Sound Community! :D
It was Revolution Day instead, but it was a great day off anywhatever! ❤️👍😘
Wonderful! Beautiful interpretation my friend!
I reluctantly went to hear your fingers, Wim, on such a beautyfull organ, as I am still in deep sorrow for having lost two friends organists: Hubert Schoonbroodt and his pupil, Carlo Hommel, both with young kids.
This is the first time for me to hear this piece. What a great composition and a great performance, too. I really liked the choice of registration for this performance. Well done!
What Wonderful Sounds! What Beautiful Playing! What a Beautiful Instrument! Thank you!🥰🤗😘
Beautiful. So good job.
I love your choice of registration.
When I leave the comfort of the piano, and dabble with organ playing, choosing registrations always takes me a ton of time. So many options.
I hope we see more of this lovely instrument on your channel in the future: at least occasionally.
Registration still takes a while for experienced organists too. Frequently, you have to choose one out of multiple suitable registrations.
Amazing, pure perfection.
Fabulous !!!!
Wunderschön!
Beautifully played ! I can see where your masterful ability to articulate on the piano and clavichord comes from :-)
I wish I could phrase like that, you are amazing I love your channel I wish I could come to Belgium and listen to you play
As a pianist turned Organist, it was amazing to hear the depth of tone colors you were able to achieve with just the one keyboard. You have inspired me. Bravo!
Thank you very much Mr Winters. So much inspired.
Gracias, saludos desde México 🇲🇽
Bravo!
The organ is fantastic in clarity and transparency and beautifully played.
I enjoyed your pacing and light ornamentation. The registration was interesting. A small organ with a great balance. Thanks for taking the time to make and share this video.
Thanks for recording this. It sounds really good.
Hmmm... Wonderful!
organo stupendo, esecuzione spettacolare! grazie!
Es fabuloso ver el secreto de un órgano, ver como se activan las teclas y los registros. Y obviamente, la obra es hermosa.
Wim...many thank you's for sharing such a gift.
My pleasure!
Pocas versiones me embelesan tantísimo cómo ésta. Por todas las razones posibles. Gracias, maestro.
A truly beautiful take on my favorite Pachelbel work. Thank you!
Maestro ❤️ in a time like this, I only send you love and appreciation, I hope you, Anja and your daughters are well! Dankie vir die beeldskone musiek! Greetings from South Africa!
Thanks!
What a lovely, tightly-constructed work, and well realized on this charming instrument that has a heart - and a bite!
Thank you for bringing beauty to life!
MASTERPIECE. GENIUS. blah, blah, blah. I have no words.
I have been waiting for some organ music for ages! Thanks! And please do more on the organ.
[4:00] Possibly the most remarkable part of the whole piece...
Superbe interprétation. Grand Merci !
beautiful
Thank you
Одна из великих классических композиций. Может поспорить с великим Бахом! Данная музыка -вечна! Нас не будет, а она будет жива. В этом сила!
