    I’m pretty sure what Ronald was saying is that the free 1st-level spell slot for some of these schools will largely be dead at higher levels, not that you can’t heighten the spells that are there.

    • @theebadluckgamer
      @theebadluckgamer  11 месяцев назад +18

      That may have been my misinterpretation but then makes it important to mention for other people who similarly misunderstood

    • @hellfrozenphoenix13
      @hellfrozenphoenix13 11 месяцев назад +4

      @theebadluckgamer I think Ronald meant that some of these lower level slots become useless later on, such as a damage spell for level 1, but the slot becomes "dead" since that spell is the ONLY one that qualifies for that slot. I wouldn't mind a secondary spell to replace it later on as a result, because I know at level 9, I wouldn't be using a, for example, Rank 1 Burning Hands.

  • @blykins80
    @blykins80 11 месяцев назад +21

    You talk about Ronald misunderstanding the spell slots. He isn't saying it is bad because you couldn't heighten them to higher slots, but because lower level slots become dead slots later on because you can only put a few spells in your 1st level slot and many don't scale well at that level. In the pre-remaster, you can swap those spells out for full support options later on that can still be useful even at high levels. That isn't the case anymore under RAW.

    Bespell Strikes is ever so slightly different from Bespell Weapon, in that you can now add the extra damage to an unarmed attack, where Bespell Weapon required a wielded weapon

    Charming Push has one significant mechanical difference from Charming Words: it doesn't have the linguistic trait anymore, so no words! Much easier to apply.

    Re. Focus Pool: The Wizard has Bonded Focus at 14th level, which I believe still exists in the remaster but with the new rules as opposed to needing that and Superior Bond at 18th =]
    They get it later than some other classes, but still get to improve their Refocus rate

    I would guess that Phantasmal Minion is Unseen Servant?
    The cool thing about Second Chance Spell / Second Chance Spell is that it allows a couple of neat things:
    1) (Unchanged) You can recast spells you got from archetypes, such as Synesthesia, which are devestating single-target spells (honestly, we ended up pre-emptively nerfing that spell in our game, and it's better for it)
    2) You get to retry a failed attempt to wreck a single enemy, which is cool and all, but at the level you might want to pick this up, all the best single-target Arcane enchantment spells already upcast to a bunch of targets (Mass Confusion, Mass Paralyze, Mass Roaring Applause, and Mass Fear being obvious examples). Now you can do illusion spells like Phantasmal Killer, Unspeakable Shadow, or even Mirror Malefactors if you're into that sort of thing.
    Like, I think the amount of worthwhile spells to use it on skyrocketed from before. I mean, Dominate and Warp Mind are cool, but they're not as impressive as Unspeakable Shadow in my opinion.
    Thank you for this video - I definitely understood Ronald the Rules Lawyer's comments about the spell schools very differently from you, but enough has been said about that, I think 👍

    The name changes of spells were to remove themselves of anything specifically SRD, because they didn't want to risk any chance of a lawsuit about ORC in 10 years.

  • @The_Dlan_ASMR
    @The_Dlan_ASMR 11 месяцев назад +7

    Are there no changes to Arcane Thesis?
    Also for the name changes, most of them are to get rid of OGL names so that PF2e Remaster can rely fully on the ORC license and completely separate itself from the OGL.
    Thanks for the very informative video! This has got me very excited to play a wizard in the Remaster.

    Earthworks is actually largely a renamed Warped Terrain (Illusion school focus spell). The only difference is there’s no check to disbelieve Earthworks, but they can automatically clear a square as an action. Still, I think it’s a great way to reflavor an existing focus spell for a new (and very different) school!

  • @Akeche

    • @n.l.g.6401
      @n.l.g.6401 11 месяцев назад +1

      Unless you're playing PFS/official organized play, there's nothing stopping your table from continuing to use older materials right alongside the new stuff. For example, the Dual Class and Ancestry Paragon rules were not reprinted in the GM Core, but they still work just fine with the updated classes and ancestries. The same is true for most spells, with obvious exceptions like Detect Alignment. The only issues you should have are from wording changes.

    On spells that use focus points, didn't they buff them that you can now generate focus points back as long you meditate max 30 min? So you can spam them much more often on lower levels making all focus spells and tricks much stronger? DM Experience is 2 sessions of beginners box and player experience 0 😂

    • @gustavotriqui
      @gustavotriqui 11 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, that's how it works now. It matters a lot for classes that have a focus spell they can spam, it doesnt matter at all for classes with utility or circumstantial spells

    Interdisciplinary incantation: Does it require the wizard to use actions on their turn, or is expending the spell slot enough?
    I suppose "Cast the triggering spell" require the normal things, like using hands, speech and actions as usual. :-|

    • @theebadluckgamer
      @theebadluckgamer  11 месяцев назад +4

      You must cast the spell using actions as normal

    • @hellfrozenphoenix13
      @hellfrozenphoenix13 11 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah. For Interdisciplinary, you spend a Reaction and Focus Point to "steal" the ARCANE spell to get access to using the same spell of the same rank.
      I love the flavor, unsure about the restrictions. It feels pretty costly imo

  • @79AlienFinger79
    @79AlienFinger79 11 месяцев назад +2

    I just read through the spell description for Synesthesia, which I had assumed was an enchantment spell, but it's actually Divination (with the Mental trait). If you play an 18th-level Wizard with an Occult spellcasting archetype, keep that in mind, I guess.

  • @daric_

    Thanks for the video! It makes me wonder if most newer characters would just choose the Battle school. To me, Ars Grammatica or the Boundary sound the most fun just overall, even if they might not be as powerful as a pure combat caster, though I'm not as familiar with the P2eR system to know if that is really the case.

    Please can you tell me if the prepared rules on Counterspelling have changed? ... As RAW is killing the main theme of a Wizard being a master of magic ✨.. if there's no change in RAW then I would houserule that a spell can be counterspelled if it is KNOWN opposed to being PREPARED. Damion.

      Sadly no change to counterspell

    • @Damion.Turner
      @Damion.Turner 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@theebadluckgamer If that is the case then I feel a universally accepted houserule must be made. If the Sorcerer can Counterspell any known in their repertoire, then a wizard should be able to counterspell via spells known.
      This could also be tied to a recall knowledge check if needed. Whereas a successful arcane skill recall knowledge before the counterspelling can act as known spells before the counter spell reaction takes place.
      In addition to this, the advanced universal focus spell steps one short of this.. if the universal Wizard can recognize the "threads and patterns" of a spell inorder to copy the spell.. then the same must be said for counterspelling the spell.

    • @Dwim
      @Dwim Месяц назад +1

      @@Damion.TurnerSorcerers do not know the same number of spells as the wizard does, not even close in fact. On top of that there’s a feat improving dispelling based on known spells for wizards at level 12, Clever Counterspell. So please houserule at will, but it should not be a universal one at all. The limitations are done on purpose.

      @hellfrozenphoenix13 11 месяцев назад +2

      @agsilverradio2225 it's to also make sure they aren't as similar as D&D. Before, the schools of magic made it super clear that it's the same as D&D. By changing it, they now make it more distinct.
      As for why people are "pretending it's to make the game better", many people just like the change for lore, mechanical flexibility, and potential design space for future spells. I'm super neutral on it myself, but I digress
