I love that your grandma had this game. I remember as a kid playing old PC games on my grandparents white box computer (I especially enjoyed solitaire).
NBA Courtside 2, all the way! But… NBA Live 99, to this day, still has one of my favorite soundtracks in any sports game. It really makes me miss the days when AAA sports game developers created unique soundtracks for their games rather than just stringing a bunch of licensed songs together and calling it a day.
I'ma have to peep this soundtrack. Love old sports game soundtracks for exactly the reason you mentioned. Big fan of the Ken Griffey Winning Run SNES and the Pro Moves Soccer Genesis soundtracks especially :)
NBA Showtime was an absolute staple at birthday parties and sleepovers when I was a kid. That game was the king basketball game on the system for everyone I knew, and was just regarded as one of the most fun multiplayer games in general. Every other basketball game at the time was a non-factor!
Man, I just couldn't catch a break when I was a kid. N64 was my console, and I've always loved the NBA. One year come Christmas I begged for a basketball game to feed my new N64. I was secretly hoping for NBA Courtside, but I got NBA live 99 as a gift instead, which I already knew kinda sucked. Next Christmas, I asked for NBA jam 2000, thinking that it would be awesome, but then the godawful Pal version destroyed any chance of me enjoying the game. I never got around to getting NBA Courtside, but when I got the GameCube a few years later I ran to get NBA Courtside 2002 to compensate. Of course, NBA Courtside 2002 sucked. Tough times!
Everytime I see Basketball on my TV an idea comes up in my head: I should change the channel. Let me clarify: I'm talking about the NBA since 2009. I'm from Seattle & that was when our NBA franchise was stolen from us.
one of the reasons why nba live 99 on n64 looked and felt so bad was because it was actually just a reskin of nba live 98, you can tell from the models and animations. they didn't even bother to port the ps1 version of 99 over. 2000 looked so much better since it was a proper port of the ps1 version, although both are pretty rough. i had a lot of fun playing these versions as a kid but the pc version is king
Something I'd like to mention to get off my chest is that N64 version of Live 2000 didn't have the classic rosters of historical teams to unlock. PC and PS1 did but Nintendo players had to settle just for Michael Jordan. This infuriated me as a kid because it was like 40% of the reason I bought the game!
EA from the 90's where very different from the husk they are today. They where not perfect of course, but their games were made with care, look at the Need for Speed series, the games extract the best that the hardware had to offer, on both PC and PlayStation. It's a shame that on the Nintendo 64 it didn't have the best results, but a good part of the poor optimization for the system was the fault of Nintendo that it took a long time to release the custom micro codes that changed development for the N64 greatly.
@@n64glennplant Yeah, EA was amazing back there, even on Sega Saturn they made awesome ports, but not all Studios where good at all hardware, EA Sports games on Saturn sucks just like these NBA Live on N64, FIFA was awful to look and play. But Road Rash and NFS are amazing on Saturn.
Great vid. We differ slightly, I thought this was decent but not good or great. The frame rate was the worst for me. There are a lot of basketball games on the console and few are good. NBA Jam and Courtside come to mind. College Hoops is certainly the worst.
@@n64glennplant true. I played it yesterday and on superstar difficulty. The AI doesn't always bite on the pump fake. And it strips you regularly. So it is a good challenge. I noticed that you choose the Indiana Pacers in many of your basketball game reviews. Are the Pacers your favorite team and if not do have a favorite NBA team/player?
Have to agree completely with your picks of Hangtime and Courtside. Honorable mentions to Courtside 2 and Showtime. NBA Live, Jam, and In the Zone are just awful.
I Do Have EA Sports NBA Live 99🏀 (1998) And EA Sports NBA Live 2000🏀 I Only Have It On Sony PlayStation From (1998) & (1999) Because The Sony PlayStation Version Of EA Sports NBA Live 99🏀 And EA Sports NBA Live 2000🏀 Has A (Halftime Show) Clips So I Prefer The Sony PlayStation Versions.
EA's long-chronicled history of releasing their games on Nintendo using three year old engines and with maybe half the game modes. Then complaining when it is not reviewed well or sold well.
I was soo vex when i got live 99 on my n64 only to find out its basically a shit version of the years before version SMH N64 live 99 and saturn live 97 worst 2 i played in that era!!!
I love that your grandma had this game. I remember as a kid playing old PC games on my grandparents white box computer (I especially enjoyed solitaire).
Also congrats on reviewing every single basketball 🏀 game on N64!
She had some weird movie making programme too which I used to live animating characters on but I forget the name now
I just love the old TNT logo. It reminds me of my childhood.
And wcw
Michael Jordan in NBA live 2000 is already enough to like that game 🤩
Legend, love MJ
I remember playing this on PS1, nobody had N64 in my little town.
Yeah kind like ThT in mine
I have NBA live 2000 on the N64 and is absolutely trash
NBA Courtside 2, all the way!

about unique ost, what you say is realy true.

The soundtrack for 2000 was by some rapper who’s name begins with R if I remember correctly
@@n64glennplant Rahzel. He was with The Roots in the mid-90’s
98 was the best one for me. That Fresh Trip music was 🔥 just take you back to 97-98 and Hot Pursuit 4 soundtrack was the best soundtracks
Dude, these graphics and animations are amazing for N64. Almost looks like an early, low-budget Dreamcast game.
Visually nice, frame rate shocking. Court side has the right balance imo
i have those cartdrige! but my favourite NBA game is NBA Hangtime haha, i still play it.
That’s a great fun game
Me too. NBA showtime is a good one too.

Man you missed out on luck!
I had nba 99! It was a present from my nanna, it was the only video game she ever bought me.
I was mad into basketball back then, so I loved it
I was too but always knew I much preferred court side
Hangtime, the Courtside Series, and Showtime are the best ones in my opinion.
So much fun
NBA Hangtime was my favorite N64 basketball game. I loved the create-a-player mode and spent many hours maxing out the stats for my creation.
all of your videos are amazing dont ever stop
Thanks I hope to be well enough to return soon
I remember these games I use to watch my brother play this game
Did you ever get to play
@@n64glennplant honestly I have tried but didn't get into it very much
NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC was my favorite basketball game for the N64, another NTSC exclusive where PAL region gamers were shafted.
We often got shafted which sucked
I was never into NBA Games but I like the era where the games looks kinda different🤔
Yeah they at least had personality
@@n64glennplant I got once an NBA Game on Gamecube but the rubberbanding computer player was damn freaky hard to make any points😅

I always remember that menu music "1999 Funk ST" from NBA live 99, it sounded really good on the N64.

I go for NBA Courtside 1
It was a classic game, this graphics and audio are so amazing, so sad for Kobe Bryant.

Finally. Very cool review!
Thank you

99 is one I wouldn’t ever go out of my way to play again but 2000 was a little more passable
Good day Glenn, have you done a video about the best multiplayer N64 games?
Not yet but maybe one day
I played NBA 2000 so much man. At some point i figured out you just need to get the ball into the post and pump fake to get easy two.
There’s always lots of gaps in AI which can be exploited in games such as these. Soccer games have a ton from the era
