Calderon was not a regular anymore. Costa and Izquierdo were not needed for this match. Cuba did not even play 6-2 for this match, just like for many other Grand Prix matches. It was bc of a political/economic issue with the money gained at the Grand Prix years before.
She was, but for the Grand Prix, every time she played as the only setter on the court, she would not jump set. I think that is what she was told to do by Eugenio George and Perdomo. They were not really interested in winning the Grand Prix after what the Cuban government did in 1993. The government took all the money and gave the players and coaches only 200 or 250 dollars. I do not remember very well. Many years have passed since then.
Appreciate the video but I must say the commentators are among the worst in the many volleyball videos I've seen in the 80s and 90s. Talks too much, too literal play-by-plays, too biased, and wouldn't brush up on how to pronounce the players' names especially those from Cuba and Brazil
