  • Grade II* Victorian “model” farm built by Catholic college abandoned in 2002 but now leased to a Trust who hope to give it new life as a Heritage Skills Institute.
These farm buildings were once at the centre of the nearby Ushaw College Catholic seminary's farming activities. It was built in the mid 1800's and remained in use by the college until 1972. After that, the site was let to a farm holding until 2002, since when the farm buildings have stood empty.
The site was added to English Heritage’s Heritage at Risk Register in 2013.
As things stand, the site has been leased to the North of England Civic Trust and they are looking at the possibility of developing the site to establish Heritage Skills Institute.

This building was actually used as a catholic seminary for refugees from an English catholic school in France back in 1808 before being turned into a farm building around 1852-3.

Incorrect, the farm buildings were designed by Hansom as a model farm and were completed in 1852. It was the main college building that was completed in 1808 and housed the Catholic seminary.

Heart breaking to see Ushaw farm is this state. Prior to the early 1970s, the farm was in full vigour producing food for the RC seminary a couple of fields away. If all who post these videos on YT could have seen the farm in its former glory, I can assure you, you would all love to have seen it. Most of the men who worked the farm and maintained the seminary used to drink at the Board Inn at Hill Top on the filed above Langley Park. The Silly Steps lead up from Langley Park to the Board Inn.

Wow thanks for the info. It's a shameful that these places with history are left to the elements to decay 😥

The biggest shame is the owner, the RC church, letting the farm go to rot.

A hangman’s noose can be a warning if
    you visit abandoned places
this is why you never should go
    alone in these places.
    turn your phones on vibrate.
don’t get caught in these places.
