They are just used as motivation to make cues more clear to the horses. If it hurts the horse they are being used wrong. She was just using it for her costume anyway

Hilarious ! At 70+ yrs.old , I've given many decades worth of riding lessons & as a " local pro " thoroughly enjoyed the challenges yet great rewards of beginning riders . Some went on to ride only once a year at church camp , some enjoyed local trails , others went on to show high levels - great riders all ! 🥰 However , my most memorable student ... well ... she arrived for her first western lesson looking like a Ralph Lauren ad , complete w/ designer scarf , fashion " paddock " boots , gold hoop earrings , etc. ! She could not / would not comprehend arriving 15 min. early to learn to groom , tack up , talk horse care 'n health - all a free gift of my time to help students & get to visit 'n learn about them too . The " fashion lady " didn't last long ( lessons at the walk only ) , her choice , & quit w/out notice . Bless her heart ... 😂

When I volunteered at a beginner lesson barn, EVERY KID (and usually the delusional adults, too) would ask when they could "gallop". A) you probably mean canter. B) with that balance and that attitude- uh, 2 to 3 years. And it was always the ones who were awful, I don't know why...

I've been learning about Scottish history and it involves King Edward in my opinion he's bad but others may view it differently and that's fine
