@@adly_m6307 The kids and instructors were nice at the camp I went to all 3 years I went (it was a Christian camp, so that may have had something to do with it, but I don't know for sure), as they also were where I took lessons for 6 years (okay, scratch that - there was one particular person at that stable, not a kid, who wasn't very nice to me, but she was the only one who wasn't and she and I were almost never there at the same time); I think whether they're nice or not really depends on the camp. As for lessons before camp or vice versa, I think that's honestly a personal choice and based on what you can afford and what's available to you. I know lots of people who started at camp and then switched to lessons (me included), as well as people who started at lessons and also went to camp. Most camps in my experience (I went to one and worked at two others, so my experience is limited, but based on what I've learned over the last 10 years, a lot of camps appear to be similar to those with regards to how the riding program is run) are designed to cater primarily to the beginner rider, who has never ridden a horse before, but many also divide campers up into different groups based on skill level and experience. I know some riding stables require you to have your own horse (whether owned, leased, borrowed, or some other arrangement), while others provide the horses. For lessons (depending on the program), there's a good chance you'll get more riding time, but that varies from one to the next as well (my third year of camp, I think we had more riding time in a day than I did when I did lessons), and often in riding lessons (again, depending on the stable) you're more likely to be responsible for catching, grooming, and tacking and untacking, while camps will often have the horses already tacked up and ready to ride when you get to the barn, at least for less experienced riders. Honestly, the best advice I can give is do your research on the camps and riding lesson programs that are available to you, taking into account things that would likely be important factors (for example, price, lesson length, class size, distance you would have to drive to get there and how often you would have to drive it, whether the classes are divided up by skill level, whether you are required to provide your own horse, what time(s) of year the camp or lessons are offered, any age restriction (if applicable), etc. - I'm in the process of setting up my own lesson program, so these are all factors I've recently had to consider and make decisions about), and make your decision based on that. Hope that helps at least a little bit, because honestly that's about all I can really say - it really does ultimately come down to personal preference and what is available to you.

This is actually a horse barn at a Christian camp and the only reason I know because I recognized some of the horses in the video. I’ve ridden some of them too but this was hilarious.😂
I was the nervous one, so my instructors fixed that by only putting me on crazy ex-racehorses - you learn to ride real fast when your life is on the line lmao
And then the actually experienced people (like me, who hates horse camp lmao) are treated like beginners because the counselors don't believe they've been riding since they were 6.
i want to start riding but don’t know where to start, should i start with horse camp or should i start lessons then horse camp? are people mean at horse camp?
@@adly_m6307 I cannot stress this enough: lessons at a qualified barn! my friends had never ridden before and didn't learn anything at horse camp. sorry, I don't mean to sound super annoyed but lessons are definitely the better choice. and people are not mean, the counselors just overall don't teach you anything. that's my experience, but there can be some good ones out there I've just never gotten the chance to go to. have fun if you decide to start :) (sorry for the whole paragraph)
@@adly_m6307 Probably lessons. At horse camp, some people may be mean, and also the counselors might not be able to take the time to properly help and teach you if there are other people who also need help. Of course, there are probably some camps that do this really well, but I think lessons are good way to start. Have fun!
I remember when I just started riding and I had so many problems with keeping my feet in the stirrups (specially when galloping). It's fun to watch this now haha, since I can really relate to the beginner bouncing on the saddle haha
It makes me laugh cause I know that all these people actually know how to ride. And the horses are probably thinking, " what the heck are you strange two legged things doing?"
I miss summer camp so much, I was a wrangler for one last year and it was absolutely amazing, I teach riding lessons to beginners and it’s always so fun to see what they think of it (the ones who watch Free rein religiously and think they know how to ride, the scared ones we work slowly with, the super excited ones who will listen to us talk about horses and how to ride for HOURS) the variety is honestly amazing and I can’t wait to do it all again next year tbh
Sounds logical to me! I'm pretty sure I rode the same horse, but in the ring he was "Morty" and on the trail he was "Tiger" or some other equally spirited name. 😜
Lol mine always wanted the grey or the palomino, who were kinda nutty, to which my response was to always give them the most boring basic bay lololol. No shade I love bays, they are simple & easy going more often than the paints greys and palominos
Y'all forgot the ones like me: "Hey can I call dibs on riding (horse)?" "Oh yeah SPEED TIME." "Trail ride? Did someone say trail ride?" "Get to ~wash the horses~ yay." I was that kid.
So I'm currently teaching someone in horse camp (its taught by older teenagers (I'm 17) when the instructor double books herself) and she's riding one of the lesson horses who used to be a 2D barrel horse. We've been working on getting her slow and showing her that slow is the key to being a lesson horse. Anyways, I'm one of her main riders and I've done most of her training to get her here. The girl that I'm teaching, let's call her Karen, she tells me how she wants to canter and gallop her in the arena. Now, keep in mind that this is an ex barrel horse who we've turned into a calm, beginner lesson horse, but it is so easy for this horse to revert to her old self. I tell the girl 'no' and she tells her mom what I said, so then the mom talks to the lead instructor/owner of the barn and she tells me that I should at least let the girl try to do it. So I did today otherwise I wouldn't be paid for my time. And this girl just takes off galloping around the arena, has no care for the other slower lesson horses teaching other kids, and nearly runs her into the fence. This mare is 25 and can't handle a serious injury. I'm a drill rider and I lease her. Now she's basically out for the entire week and there's no other horse for me to ride since it's a big team. Don't know if'll be charged for vet bills or the girl's parents will, since I'm fully leasing the horse.
OH my goodness! That is simply the worst. I have never been in your position but that is just not okay. I personally feel like you should be able to say NO to whoever or whatever if you are full leasing the horse. She needs to 100% pay for whatever damage. Also, maybe you could drop her as a student? Have you watched Free Rein? That show BUGS the heck out of me because the main character, Zoe, is a total beginner and directly disobeys her instructors and the barn rules and takes off cantering a "crazy" horse. I think some people like "Karen" see those examples and think "oh I could do that!" 🙄 I am so protective of my horse and will not let anyone who has that sort of attitude EVER ride. Anyways... I'm done ranting. I am SO sorry that you are in the position that you are in. I hope your barn manager will see that letting "Karen" get her way while going against her Riding Instructors (your) advice was a bad idea. Some people need to learn that patience is key and you don't always get to go from level 1 to level 20 overnight. There is no instant gratification with horses. If she expects that, she should find a new sport! Good luck Anna! Hope your horse feels better soon 💜
Anna, get a lawyer! Immediately, these kind of people need to learn that they are absolutely NOT allowed to treat any horse that way! Especially since you’re responsible for the horse 💯 Your “ barn manager” needs to grow balls...... totally irresponsible on their part!!!! Please get a lawyer 👍🙏💯 The brat absolutely needs to pay for damages done to the horse. The so called “ manager “ should be dismissed immediately!
Oh my, the owner of the barn should be liable. Period. Such a terrible decision- and the girl should have been thrown out of the program, and her parents also responsible.
@@GypsyEquestrian lol don't go making fun of my favorite show 😂 I don't act like Zoe, because I don't have to guts and I respect the horses and the instructors, and she does get on my nerves sometimes. But it's an entertaining show lol I love you channel btw
@@lorelaim1963 I like Free Rein. I watched the whole series and specials. @Gypsy Equestrian I agree with you with what you said about "Karen". (Sorry I like Free Rein and Heartland) I see a lot of flaws in both! @Anna That kid was wrong and her parents were spoiling her and "Karen" is dangerous to others at the barn. As far as I'm concerned, you are in the right. I say be ready to get a lawyer and just get a consultation, if need be.
5:51 is honestly my life. I hate yelling at beginners but sometimes they are just so clueless. Like i'll be cantering and all of a sudden they will cut me off. Never ends well when my mare is fresh! 😂 These videos are so funny by the way!! I love them!!
That's why I always make sure to teach (and reinforce) basic arena etiquette if I ever have more than one rider in the corral at a time. Saves a huge headache, because they learn early on not to cut each other off or pass someone without letting the person know. Wish they'd taught even basic arena etiquette in my college's horsemanship class - would have been a huge help for everyone, and would have saved me from startling every time someone passed me closely without giving any warning.
*i see your western saddle that’s so cool one time in like 5th grade or something I lived on a huge cattle ranch and I would wake up super early to milk the cows or whatever but I entered my horse in a rodeo, I was just gonna do barrels but we ended up winning the whole thing* *wow I’ve always wanted to do barrels* *yeah I HAVE A 5 SECOND PERSONAL RECORD* Lol (3:15)
This is exactly why all campers start off on a lead line for at least the first day and never bridle. Sometimes they get to saddle and most are independent buy the end of the week.
A sitcom with these characters would be hilarious!! Especially the girl who doesnt even want to be there "Just ask my great aunt Ruthy!" "Well give me her number. Call her 🙄"

@@rebeccac.5823 I am 99.9% sure it’s Spring Hill in Michigan I went there many summers when I was growing up I loved it!!!
So cool! I didn’t know they were Christian 🥰 or maybe it was just filmed there
@@jessicasalvatore4633 I GO TO SPRINGHILL AND LOVE IT, ALTHOUGH I GO WITH MY YOUTH GROUP IN THE WINTER!
Is it a Crista camp in Washington?
He’s gonna jump he’s gonna jump!
*horse calmly goes over the pole*
That’s why they gave me the young horse 😏*checks teeth* yeah he’s like 3 😌
Ive watched this video 1 million times and each time I can’t help myself from laughing😂 never gets old lol 🤣
"Yes I know, This is my second summer" 😂
I was the nervous one, so my instructors fixed that by only putting me on crazy ex-racehorses - you learn to ride real fast when your life is on the line lmao
"WOAH, WOAH, WOAH!" We always joked about this when I worked at a summer camp. 😂
Love the girl putting the saddle on backwards. Lol
Also the unamused girl, Hanna, totally deadpan, love her.
Omg I am a barrel racer and when she said she had a five second personal record I died😂😂
The best horse I know is a sixteen second lmao
i am also a barrel racer and those things make me die laghing because i know that is not true or possible
Ain't that the truth.
That "Beginner" parody was me a long time ago. I then decided, watching youtube videos about horses was a better hobby for me.
Alex’s face looks so weird when she a say is it your first day yeah I could tell
Hahahahah I’m gonna tell her that 🤣😂
I’ve just taught five weeks of camp and I can relate to this deep down
The one with the arms flapping got me lol
bro wish i could even afford to LOOK at a horse lmao, great acting
Have fun!
Oh my god same!!
@@maddie28 the only horse camps I’ve been too that really teach me are ones in pony club
Oh my grandfather owns the WHOLE place 😊
Ok. Thank you falisha for bringing that up.
I can so relate to this. Lol The horses even have that “oh good camp kids” face in the video. Lol Great job portraying the types.
I remember when I just started riding and I had so many problems with keeping my feet in the stirrups (specially when galloping). It's fun to watch this now haha, since I can really relate to the beginner bouncing on the saddle haha
The part where she said ok I got this she dosent got this because the horse won’t open his mouth oml 😂🤣😭😅😂🤣😆
😂
“Uncle Rob” I died laughing
When she was trying to put the bridle in the horse’s mouth, that was so relatable
Haha I struggled with putting the bridle in for so long
@@Fleur-vI maybe the horse hated being bridled with a bit that's mean i hate bits metal doesnt belong in a mouth of a horse okay thats dumb
I love how she said yeah he’s three when your not supposed to ride until their four LOL
"Nice horsie😖, nice horsie😖" Me getting on my horse when shes in a bad mood🤣🤣
These horses probably thought you’d all lost your minds making this video 😂
Hannah was the only one smart enough to say something to that “Bragger” girl lol 6:18
5:45 "Because my Uncle Rick-"
Me: Uncle Rick= Rick Riordan=Percy Jackson= Heroes of Olympus= Trials of Apollo= The Burning Maze= RIP Jason
EXACTLY LIKE UNCLE RICK!!
I also like Percy Jackson and heroes of Olympus (not finished heroes of Olympus though)
Bro I cried when that scene came up
It makes me laugh cause I know that all these people actually know how to ride. And the horses are probably thinking, " what the heck are you strange two legged things doing?"
so much nostaliga watching this. i forgot there is always that one kid who cant stop their horse eating
What good horses
They’re so patient with the “campers”
I miss summer camp so much, I was a wrangler for one last year and it was absolutely amazing, I teach riding lessons to beginners and it’s always so fun to see what they think of it (the ones who watch Free rein religiously and think they know how to ride, the scared ones we work slowly with, the super excited ones who will listen to us talk about horses and how to ride for HOURS) the variety is honestly amazing and I can’t wait to do it all again next year tbh
LOL. This is just like when I was a Girl Scout Camp Counselor with the Horse Unit. It was comical. All the girls wanted to ride a black stallion. 😂😂😂
Sounds logical to me! I'm pretty sure I rode the same horse, but in the ring he was "Morty" and on the trail he was "Tiger" or some other equally spirited name. 😜
Black stallion 😂. Meanwhile I was the kid who wanted to go on the Clydesdales and big draft horses
@@almondmilkxx2259 i am the same i always ask to ride the belgin at my barn
Lol mine always wanted the grey or the palomino, who were kinda nutty, to which my response was to always give them the most boring basic bay lololol. No shade I love bays, they are simple & easy going more often than the paints greys and palominos
it’s a tradition to come back to this video every month or so
Y'all forgot the ones like me:
"Hey can I call dibs on riding (horse)?"
"Oh yeah SPEED TIME."
"Trail ride? Did someone say trail ride?"
"Get to ~wash the horses~ yay."
I was that kid.
Thats the kid I am!😆💖🐎🤪😂
I've never been to pony camp lol
I'm going for the first time this year!
(i started riding last June)
@@Caz_Hamilton hey that’s awesome! Good luck!
@@issnake1109 thankyou!
I’m the same, have never been to horse camp though
As a summer camp lesson instructor.....yes 😂
Especially since you’re responsible for the horse 💯
Your “ barn manager” needs to grow balls...... totally irresponsible on their part!!!! Please get a lawyer 👍🙏💯
The brat absolutely needs to pay for damages done to the horse.
I say be ready to get a lawyer and just get a consultation, if need be.
i like how alex allways has her heels up🤣
5:51 is honestly my life.
*i see your western saddle that’s so cool one time in like 5th grade or something I lived on a huge cattle ranch and I would wake up super early to milk the cows or whatever but I entered my horse in a rodeo, I was just gonna do barrels but we ended up winning the whole thing*
*wow I’ve always wanted to do barrels*
*yeah I HAVE A 5 SECOND PERSONAL RECORD*

1:33 That sounds exactly like a girl at my barn 😂
She’s been riding longer than me and still gets scared when the horse trots or walks
It takes TALENT to look like you ride this bad lol 😂
Your videos always make me laugh I love the parodies 😂😊
This is exactly why all campers start off on a lead line for at least the first day and never bridle. Sometimes they get to saddle and most are independent buy the end of the week.
this was honestly painful to watch, but its so strangely accurate
Oh my gosh this is so funny!!!! You literally made my entire day!!!!! 😂
Hahahah YAY! Glad you liked it!! Maybe you could be in our next one!
Hahah awww thanks!!! It was a good time making it!
5:52 that’s kinda true though, while riding while multiple people in the arena, you can’t just be on the rail like that.
the girl in 1:15 is low key me when i first started riding, I could barely lift the saddle yet alone get it over the horse's back. lol 😂
The trainers legit sound *just* like my riding instructors- like legit *just* like them-
A sitcom with these characters would be hilarious!! Especially the girl who doesnt even want to be there
"Just ask my great aunt Ruthy!"
"Well give me her number. Call her 🙄"
I would love to do a sitcom!
Those people have some skill being so 'bad'!! 😂 Also we'll done to the horses for being so layed back about how they were ridden. Xxx live you guys!!!
The horses be like: What are you doing hooman?
Alex went she was saying help got me cracking up 😂😂
You missed that one student who is decent at riding lol but I love this
I work at a horse camp and this is so incredibly funny. Please do a video about children (4-5y/o) at summer camp. They're so hilarious and obnoxious, there isn't a dull moment around them 😂😂😂😂😂😂
