I’ve never seen Annie actually hurt nene. Pester, annoy, tease, play, but not hurt. But, Nene actually hurts Annie in response. Has since she was a baby. I could be wrong, of course, but in all the videos I’ve seen over the years Annie doesn’t bite Nene.
In one video you can see Annie try and pull the rope out of Nenes hand while she was using it to get down. The zoo really needs to move Nene to a safer place!
I would love for Kyomasa to go to Taronga Zoo (a pity that it is already home to another silverback) he would pay homage to his legendary Kibabu grandfather I am glad to hear that a sister of Shabani is currently living there
I agree Kibabu is legendary!! Magnificent silverback. It is obvious that Haoko and Shabani had a great example to emulate; no wonder they are fantastic troop leaders! I think a problem would occur with his placement as he has so many relatives in Australia. M'Beli, his aunt, is a troop member at Taronga. The two other females at Taronga are ages 24 and 36. In addition, he is related to females at Melbourne and Mogo. (He is, also, related to the two males living in New Zealand.)
i think what got shabani particularly angry is when annie held her hand out in appeasement (in chimps, this move is an 'im sorry i trust you enough not to bite my hand') but nene still attacked her so that was a big no for shabani. but that's just my speculation.
Shabani just seemed to be trying to break up the fight and make his presence known (he tends to keep the peace just by being present most of the time) rather than actively punishing Nene. He only grabs her briefly and doesn't really go after her when she continues pursuing Annie, possibly because he knows Annie can easily get away once she's on the frame as she's a younger, faster climber. The fact that Annie immediately did the appeasement gesture right after smacking Nene possibly angered Nene more than if Annie had just run away like she normally does (and Shabani does when he wants to chase). I don't generally see her keep pursuing Annie after a Shabani intervention, so she must have been really furious.
It still annoys me that Nene “ abused.” Enormously a baby/ little child that needed his father to defend her and Nene so called fans let her getting way with just because she’s “old “ fortunately lots of people aren’t like “ old or dead “ they are saint now. Lol

Wow, Nene continuing to go after Annie even after getting charged and grabbed by Shabani (obviously to stop them fighting rather than legitimately trying to hurt her). This is the first time I've seen him get really physical with her in a while, so I'm amazed she just shrugged it off. She must have been FURIOUS with Annie. Hilarious that after the rain stops and they all come back outside, Nene is just giving Annie the sideeye because she's so not in the mood for her shenanigans and immediately follows Shabani when he heads inside. The fact that she constantly needs one of the males as a bodyguard to not get smacked has to be very stressful for her.
Apparently this is standard gorilla behaviour for younger members to identify and mess with the "weakest" member of the troop to continually test dominance and hierarchy. But also that Nene is apparently the alpha female and dominates AI? I'm not entirely sure how that works. Nene has lived decades longer in captivity than a wild gorilla would, so it's kind of an unusual troop dynamic.
Don't worry Nene little miss Annie will have a lifetime of the same treatment one day and daddy won't be there to save her.She is just a trouble maker,good on you Nene keep after her.
Hmm..I don’t think she will. There’s a lot of history between Nene and Annie. I’m sure Annie will have her own Silverback one day to protect her just like dad does. I love Nene and don’t like seeing her upset but gorillas have memories and Annie knows that Grandma can’t bite as hard as before.
@@MySkinnydip Annie clearly remembers how Nene treated her as a baby because she doesn’t act that way with any of the others in the troop besides Nene . I dont necessarily enjoy seeing her get upset either but Its lifelong consequences to her actions . I dont put to much blame on Nene either since AI didn’t give birth naturally and with Nene being from the wild not understanding where this baby appeared from you know so thats what makes it hard to watch still . Im just glad Annie doesn’t full on attack Nene to the point of injury . I do believe when Nene is gone Annie will miss her . Same for all the others .
Shabani is still a young silverback therefore it will be long protected Annie that even as the beginning of her life she had Nene bit , pushing her. Don’t you know why this happened ?
