Yes they hoot. It's a normal form of communication for western gorillas In this particular case he is either sending a message to the group or he's trying to reach Nene as hooting is often used when gorillas get lost, that's how they find each other

It seems that Nene’s has gotten worse. Since they were allowed to in the basement the troop had an appetite. Now they are anxious and not eating much again. They are spending more time with Nene in the basement. I can only pray that if Nene leaves them it will be quick and that Nene’s not in pain. 💐❤️🌺🌹

Since you want to relate this situation to us, the analogy would be your mother is sick and your granddaughter was stalking and harassing her u til she fell and injured herself even more. Then her husband, frustrated looking after her and the family in two separate location decides to rip her down from a safe hiding/resting spot almost killing her.

It is possible she has a contagious illness. The keepers know what they are doing. Hopefully she will recuperate if it is an illness. I am sure the zoo personnel don't enjoy having to keep them apart, but they must have a good reason.

I hope they bring Nene outside. It would likely help tremendously in her healing. This zookeepers missed to make a discerning decision regarding Nene, for sure that resulted in gravious injury physically to Nene and mentally, emotionally to all the troop.. I thought they did so bad but after watching the London's zoo of Effie's Venus baby tortured by Alifa, and the rats and pigeons ating up all the stuffs of the gorillas, I think overall Jaapan's zoos are more seriously committed to this Gorillas conservation.. they are feeding them much better than the London's zoos, it is pathetic...

My understanding was that once they placed Nene in the underground room, the other gorillas were able to actually see and be closer to her there than before when she was still in the bigger room up above. At least that's what I saw that was said on one of the videos. So that being said, if true, it sounds like it was an improvement for both Nene and the other gorillas to be able to be closer to each other.

Japan should be ashamed at the condition of this Gorilla enclosure. It looks like a prison camp. There are no enrichment activities. It looks very boring for the Gorillas. They should have a setup where they can see the sick, elderly gorilla and not keep her away from the group.

Was shocked to see pigeons eating up all the hardly seen with naked eyes dry feeds, rats are healthier than the gorillas.. sad and helpless animals

Agree 👍🏽 It’s SOO STOOPID of the nurses 🧑⚕️ and causing the rest of the Troop to be NEEDLESSLY STRESSED when they can just as Easily PLACE Nene in a gosh darn Room or Area where the family can SEE HER!! I don’t know what’s Hard about that 😡 😤
My understanding was that once they placed Nene in the underground room, the other gorillas were able to actually see and be closer to her there than before when she was still in the bigger room up above. At least that's what I saw that was said on one of the videos. So that being said, if true, it sounds like it was an improvement for both Nene and the other gorillas to be able to be closer to each other.

Japan should be ashamed at the condition of this Gorilla enclosure. It looks like a prison camp. There are no enrichment activities. It looks very boring for the Gorillas. They should have a setup where they can see the sick, elderly gorilla and not keep her away from the group.
