Just checked mine. Although there is some improvement with the high conductors, mine also has lower numbers at depth. The beach id, although a little high seems to have more stability with target ID. My guess is the vx5 and vx7 with only 1 tier id may perform better than the vx9 as far as target ID goes.
No way. I’d never have confidence. The skewed ID and the messy tones would have that sucker wrapped around a tree. Ws6 for the win. I’d rather swing the f75 than the “all new Garrett vortex” 🌪️ 🌪️ 🌪️
Thanks for updates on the Vortex, this way everyone can make a informed decision on purchase of this machine. Do you think Garrett can fix all the problems in this machine with updates. Thanks for posting.
after these little problems there isn't even adjustable lighting.., at night I have to put on a blackout film otherwise I'll go blind,... what can I say, it looks like the first metal they built..
Back to the drawing board on the coin ID's. I updated mine and did see some depth improvements, but if the coin ID is off, it's a mute point. Separation in my in soil tests show no improvements.
Well Garrett, back to the drawing board. CBD, do they even test these things, or does some computer tell them, it’s ok? 1984 white’s target ID would nail the correct target and even lock on. Them and later 80’s mark one were deadly accurate able to see and hear the difference in a silver and clad dime. 41 years later, Garret (not), sad, but hope you help them work through it, thanks.
What an embarrassing time for Garrett, I bet they never thought someone would go to town on the vortex and find all it's faults. As for the new update,' appalling & laughable.
not good! I detected a really hot beach cut this summer and the xp2 Manticore and Equinox 900 all gave great STABLE VDI readings to Extreme depth! I found a 1881 Morgan dollar it was a solid 99 on the XP2 VDI! All my gold targets were deep and the VDI'S solid to Depth! I would dig the deeper Gold targets with Pitch audio basically relying on the XP2 VDI scale with this Garrett Vortex you can forget that idea!
The only way Garrett will improve is by listening to their customers and nobody else better than calabash to put it to the test helping customers to understand the issues. I do think Garrett will listen and fix the issues.
Just updated, Im seeing what your seeing. something interesting, I put down 1 oz silver bullion round. For some reason it really struggles to pick it up half of the time. Even when I do an air test. And if I lay it on My hardwood floor with nails underneath, it struggles real bad to let it chime in.
I have 1 of just about every modern detector and I enjoy all of them. I'd be interested in getting a Vortex, but it still has some issues to go through. Looks better, but still not right. At least they worked on it, but more work is needed. When you show it acting right then I'll get one.
I’ve been running tests on the Garrett AT line for the last 18 months.3 virgin sites with thousands of targets.Over 10,000 targets dug using the machines until no solid targets are left before moving to the next machine in line. The Max will get 95% of targets dime size or larger but it will miss those targets many times sometimes before it’s found.Garrett machines are mid level at best!I decided to move on to the manticore over the new Gerrett machine on these sites and 9 silver dimes at 6-12 inches totally missed by all the Garrett machines.Over 100 solid coin and relic targets found so far that completely got missed. The new Garrett is a hard pass for any future testing with Garrett machines.Even a cheap machine will find large targets but if dime size targets are missed at depth it’s not even close to being competitive.
I just don’t understand. When you know where your competition lies, and existing price market you are competing in, how you can even come out with something sub par. One thing, after using different detectors I always thought Garrett was great on vdi stability, now they have gone and messed that up. I beginning to think that the apex was really whites technology in a Garrett wrapper and that this is their first attempt at a multi frequency. It’s sad with all the hype they put out, and then the wait, that this is the best they could do. Unfortunately for them I believe they have lost a lot of faithful customers from this
@calabashdiggeradventures no name but some garrett testers have been using vortex for some good months so why was the bugs fixed and problems before the machine went on sale to general public I don't want to be running update not long after it's just come out of box not at price it sells for in UK
I believe like you that the VDIs are messed up, but to test it, you might want to remove the other coins. Remember how broad it’s iron detection field was. Two nails a couple of feet apart were showing as one iron patch, so I’m thinking it is mixing all of the coin VDIs together. I know, it’s still way too low. I’m specifically referring to the weird VDI changes as you were raising the coil. Just a thought.
@calabashdiggeradventures Most of these new detectors pretty much have the same old ID technology in a sense that you really don't know what you're digging up half the time,,, I still trust the old analog sound machines that's my opinion,,,
Garrett is very able /capable to produce very good high end exspensive Pulse induction detectors , Like the Axiom & the ATX Extreme, but seem unable to produce put into production a high end Quality hobby detector ???? Why is that ???...
Calabash, you and Iffy Signals vs. Brandon and Digger Dawn in an old park. They, of course, will run the Vortex Cookie Monster 2.05 while you guys dig random holes without detectors. Also, you give them a thirty minute head start. This is an hour long hunt, then post the results on your channel. 😢
At this point, I think it would be in Garrett’s best interest to just focus on the Pinpointers 😂
I moved away from garrett pinpointer and bought a nokta accupoint 100% better and goes a lot deeper in ground plus iron function is great 👍
An embarrassment for Garrett & embarrassing for there Testers & fanboys & Girls who insist it's all ok with the Vortex..😮..
Just checked mine. Although there is some improvement with the high conductors, mine also has lower numbers at depth.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the update.
This thing is hopeless.
Great video but it’s still a hard pass for me and those tones, my god they would drive me crazy

Nope! 😢
I hope so
No way!
after these little problems there isn't even adjustable lighting.., at night I have to put on a blackout film otherwise I'll go blind,... what can I say, it looks like the first metal they built..
And once again Garrett didnt listen . Bravo
That 99 Target ID is close to the iron wrap around.
Yep!
I am just going to put my wallet back in my pocket and move on down to the Mine Lab booth. When i need a pointer or bag I will call you Garrett.
Back to the drawing board on the coin ID's. I updated mine and did see some depth improvements, but if the coin ID is off, it's a mute point. Separation in my in soil tests show no improvements.
I agree. I need to test more.
Well Garrett, back to the drawing board. CBD, do they even test these things, or does some computer tell them, it’s ok? 1984 white’s target ID would nail the correct target and even lock on. Maybe its the minerals in your air 😅😁
Come on Garrett, OMG
What an embarrassing time for Garrett, I bet they never thought someone would go to town on the vortex and find all it's faults. As for the new update,' appalling & laughable.
I will still enjoy my Vanquish models. All 3 models I own are rock solid in my soil.... using all 3 coils sizes.
They are good machines!

with this Garrett Vortex you can forget that idea!
I think you mean a Morgan dollar not a half dollar
The only way Garrett will improve is by listening to their customers and nobody else better than calabash to put it to the test helping customers to understand the issues. I do think Garrett will listen and fix the issues.
I don’t think they have the ability to fix the issues
They dropped the baton from White's when they could've finished top 4 imho...how in the world did that happen?
It is a head scratcher for sure!
, Just seems like another Apex .

its wrapping...
@calabashdiggeradventures I don't know that term. What's happening ? Like overloading?
yes pushing the vdi scale over 99 and bring it back around in the iron range or what we call no mans land..
@@calabashdiggeradventures
Got it thanks 👍🏼.

WOOW !!! This is great data...Confirms what I have been saying for years!!!!
What recovery speed were you in?
1 or 2
Great for guys that just go by sound and clam they don't look at the VDI 🧑🏻🎄
Garbage should never have been released

Very good points!
Straight out of the box recovery 3 do 360’s on wild targets it’s all over the place on the numbers so it’s a tone machine with a very helpful graph.
How is the graph helpful if the VDI is off?
Because when I Circle the target the graph is more stable than numbers
Good luck with that....
Think it may be the coils? That's odd
Something is off...
So garrett put a machine out that needs a update maybe this should have done before machine went on sale 🤔
Good point!
@calabashdiggeradventures no name but some garrett testers have been using vortex for some good months so why was the bugs fixed and problems before the machine went on sale to general public I don't want to be running update not long after it's just come out of box not at price it sells for in UK
That is the question of the month!
Hmmmm. Still looks like certain numbers are being used still, nothing in between
Something is off..
Have seen any Garrett drones over your home .You.are keeping them up at night. Sweating.
On the lookout!
Digger Dawn says you are doing it wrong again!
lmao!
😂
@@williamwade546 I guess according to her he should quit lowering and raising the coil when he swings huh?
You know she will be watching this.
I think they are stuck with it without changing the whole board inside ...Too bad
Ouch!

Others are seeing the same thing...
Looks to me like the audio is connected to the Id. As if once the audio gets a bit weaker ti up averages the ID. Very odd to say the least.
So u will not dig it if the id is jumping from high 80 into the 90 ?? Once again tape off the screen and go on the field .👍
Come on man ! The point is its not working properly ANY mid tier machine can ID coins laying on top of the ground..
Looks like it is good for a dig all detectorist like me, who likes surprises . 😁😁
Yep, you never know what you'll find!
Never trust any ID on any Digital Detector,,,You go by the sound,,,
Never trust the sound on any digital detector just dig it all.....Poor logic...neither are perfect..
@calabashdiggeradventures Most of these new detectors pretty much have the same old ID technology in a sense that you really don't know what you're digging up half the time,,, I still trust the old analog sound machines that's my opinion,,,
I am not gonna get in a peeing match but the new detectors actually have really good VDI systems..Acurrate
Not much of an improvement! Glad I did not waste my money on this machine! 😢
Weird, most detectors are accurate ID close, and gets worse as you go away, bazaar!
Zincolns beware of the Vortex! Hmm
Hmm 🧐🤔
Garrett is very able /capable to produce very good high end exspensive Pulse induction detectors , Like the Axiom & the ATX Extreme, but seem unable to produce put into production a high end Quality hobby detector ???? Why is that ???...
Good question!
Well hmm
Frequency shift 8 is a dud lol
Might aswell just take that channel out of play why even have it ?
good point!
