Introducing the Organelle™
The Organelle™ makes it easy to experiment with new ways of making music. It combines playful and intuitive controls with a powerful sound engine. It is limitless in musical possibility and a joy to play.
Flexible
At the heart of the Organelle's sound engine is a robust computer that runs patches. A patch allows the instrument to take on different forms. Onboard hardware for sound input and output and mappable knobs, keys and buttons enable patches to synthesize, sample, effect and anything in between!
Expandable
The Organelle™ ships with a set of common default patches, and new patches may be loaded from a USB drive. Simply select patches from our expanding community-driven online repository, transfer them to a USB drive, reinsert it in the Organelle™ and play! New Patches available at: www.organelle.io
Customizable
Don't see the exact patch you need? You can create it yourself! Patches may be created and/or edited directly on the device as well as on a personal computer. Plug in a keyboard, mouse and monitor and begin customizing. The Organelle™ runs patches created in the powerful computer music programming environment Pure Data (puredata.info) . (You can write patches in lower level languages too!)
Community
The Organelle™ is built with community interaction in mind. As you create patches or tweak existing ones you can share them with others! Please visit our forum: forum.critteran...

CRITTER & GUITARI™
this video is so lovely and the narrator's voice is so gentle
I think i am in love with your company.
Best thing that came out of namm this year.
funnest hardware video of all time. and that woman's voice is bliss.
As soon as I saw that this was programmed using PD - I was sold :-) this is the hardware i've been looking for!
One of the most inspiring music instruments ever.
with the organelle, the possibilities are endless or something blah balh balh
Everyone should check out the narrator's incredible electronic music, her name is Ela Minus
WOW ! - great to see PD getting more out there ! Awesome work dudes.
I ordered one, Will be using it with my Moog modular 15 for effects.
I just bought one and I'm very excite!
So much awesome in this video. Some much want for the Organelle! :D
holy crap I did not expect it to support a monitor and actually run it as a music workstation.
Oh yea man I was adding patcjes for my friends orgamelle last night and saw it has an HDMI and USB and the sitr says you can hook.up both a screen and a mouse/keyboard
I need this.
That voice though
Ela Minus! Her music is amazing, check it out
You guys always make the best video!!! and great instrument with plenty of humor... I wish you can buy this at MOMA!
Thank you for your videogramme, it was both informative and entertaining.
Thanks for watching!
Very cool device. Lots of potential.
That outro sequence, though... if only it all meant something.
It all means everything
It looks really cool! But I think it's a good idea to prepare more videos with different examples - how we (musicians) can use it. Surely enough - simple examples of how someone uses a sampler, synthesizer, effects etc. Of course, I know "that you can program in PD whatever you want" - but it is worth showing what I gets (at start) when I buy this stuff. For example, although I have read manual it's not clear to me how (in practice) working multitrack recording - if I had video example - probably would have been easier. Sorry if my comment is to similar what previously wrote Xavier.
+Paweł Pruski Hi, Thanks! We're working on some videos. Here's a quick demo of the _Nori Grains_ granular synth patch: ruclips.net/video/g7Yu6Xa6hqg/видео.html
You can also listen to audio examples of every patch we've released here: organelle.io . You can also download PureData and try out every patch from organelle.io on your computer. (more info here: forum.critterandguitari.com/t/desktop-mother-patch/132)
_RE: Multitrack Recording_: We consider the Organelle to be an all-in-one *instrument* and less an all-in-one workstation. We generally think of the Organelle's patches in terms of translating human interaction into sound. While one could certainly build higher level functionality to support a multitrack type workflow on the Organelle, it would take some wrangling because the layout of the controls are configured more towards *playing and performing* than for editing. In other words, the Organelle paired with a dedicated multitrack recorder would be a great all in-one studio!
Super cool Organelle, and equally cool vid!
omg so exciting !
Great idea !
Absolutely adorable!
If it was able to run on batteries I would definitely get this as part of my mobile setup.
Wish granted
Just magic
A master piece *~*
Beautiful video!
want it.
great clip, thank you!
+Sherly the mental bought it
huge screen, congratulations
Actually this is the voice of Ela Minus
Yep - She's credited in the video description!
Needs cv input and output and clock sync in and out. You could use the mono outputs R,L as cv but you would have to filter it a bit and convert it and hope to get the right levels.
+Critter & Guitari hi guys, I love the organelle & I have some questions.
can I record with it? stupid question, but I realized that you can store puredate, but what about recording and saving a beat? is it direct audio recording via the DAW? or does it store a beat on the device/storage stick?
can I create own melodies/synths without much coding knowledge?
what you think about having a program or maybe VST/plugin I could use to control organelle with my DAW to create, save and manage new melodies without code?
this would get a lot more ppl on board who are not confident with code!
+polakuu Thank you for checking out the Organelle!
Yes, you can record a .wav file to the USB flash drive that the Organelle ships with.
You can modify existing patches or create ones from scratch. There are a bunch of good Pure Data tutorials on the web...
Since the Organelle responds to MIDI Input, you could use your DAW to send it whatever MIDI information you'd like to control it with. There are some people discussing similar ideas on our forum: forum.critterandguitari.com/
This is a really cool video
incredible
OOOOOOGHHHHHHHHH GOOOOOODDD.. Want it! :D
Bucket piano? Now, I want a bucket piano.
bitspacemusic *pocket
hate to be that guy omg the username/comment synergy is SO STRONG
omg so exciting !wow
I feel like I need smelling salts and a cool compress for my forehead. This may well be the perfect successor to my beloved Nord Micro Modulars...except blue.
The Organelle is better than the OP-1
yes (I have an op-1)
Is it possible to record a full track in organelle m and export it to a phone/computer? Thanks!:)
I keep wanting to pair this with an OP-1 for live use. Only the two units-period.
Any thoughts, anyone?
Learn an instrument.
They are instruments you twonk. @@siriusfun
@@siriusfun apparently you have no clue what the organelle is, you twiddly bit.
can we play with the generic synth sounds, using a guitar in live setting ?
you can do anything
very clever!
Wow.. literally for years I've seen and heard about this piece of gear in videos but I assumed it was just a synthesizer that modeled the sound of an organ..which never peaked my interest. I had no idea it was such a powerful and versatile instrument. Shit...
Piqued.
VIDEOSUPERHIGHWAY let me know your impressions, please. i've heard some love it, others say, "just use a laptop."
I love your voice. You should become a singer...
Fernando Mashlab i thought the same thing and just found out she is haha, look up ela minus
oh, wow! running pd!
Wait ? Does it have a built in speaker hidden somewhere?
no
The new Organelle-M which was just released has a speaker aswell as a built-in mic
i started laughing at 3:57
i mean what more do you need?
Can anyone tell me what boots the guy is wearing at 1:50?
i was wondering the same
just mumbled "I shall acquire this" aloud...
mk 2 needs rechargeable battery an touch strip
DOPE
I guess that is Ela Minus speaking
How you realized about it? Really nice observation
I just wonder, if i want, say, use it like a sound module with an external midi keyboard, how difficult for me will be the process of loading my own samples (like choruses, orchestra, synths) into this device? I`ve vever had any business with PureData or any others. Only wav`s, sfz.
And can you use it as a sound module that way and affect guitar signal simultaneously?
The Organelle's patches may synthesize, play samples, or effect audio (or a combination of these processes). To customize a sample playback patch, it is easy to replace our samples with your own (44.1kHz/16-bit .wav files). We're working on a demo that covers this!
You can use it as a sound module and effect an audio input signal simultaneously.
Incredible! Please make more guitar-oriented stuff in the next video) And I`m starting saving money lol
Did you see this video: ruclips.net/video/N4L8ja1fA-E/видео.html ?
Yes, but a bit later) Thanks!
Here's the demo that covers loading your own .wav samples: ruclips.net/video/e62kEKMg8Lg/видео.html
What's the MAX ma the organelle can handle? It just says 1000ma min.
+Butterfield Studios A device will only draw as much current (measured in milliamps or ma) as it needs, so it is really the minimum that is important. In the case of the Organelle, it requires a minimum of 1000mA. But you also want to check that any power supply used with the Organelle is 9V DC and has a tip with 'center-positive' polarity.
I can't believe it -- 10 seconds of classical music in this demo. Isn't that illegal?
could it do video synthesis as well?
+Daniel Demers the Organelle 'could' do video synthesis, but at this time we are only supporting its audio capabilities.
+Critter & Guitari good to know, thanks
Looks neat!
What kind of dog is that @ 1:12 ?
+Marc the Darc . Pica the Pom (instagram.com/picathepom/) is a pomeranian!
Critter & Guitari Thanks for the answer. It's very cute ^^
+Marc the Darc namm 2016 is difficult, either a pica synth or a shiba tabletop module
Are the audio outputs DC coupled?
+Computing.Sound The audio outputs (and input) are AC coupled.
Thanks for the answer.
oohhh my godddd take my moneys
Is the aux audio in stereo or mono?
Kintrap the audio in is a 1/4" stereo jack
2:25 yes pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
should i get this or an op-1?
+Marcus Forde if you want something to play around they both work well... my experience was that I had an op-1 and found it very complicated to produce anything, it has lots of buttons and functions you need to know to work with it.
while the organelle is more like a OP-Z, freestyle beat making, it seems very intuitive, create your own melodies with puredata which gives you infinity possibilies, it's cheaper than the OP-1 also.... the downsides: it has no speaker and it has no batteries, so you need power. if you want to go portable, either go with the op-1, wait for the op-Z or look at other products that C&G offer.
I for one would have loved a speaker & MIDI.. but I guess they have their reasons why they did something different with this one!
+polakuu very informative, thank you for your help
2nd hand op1: no pd programming, no computer needed. fun and powerful device. I own c&g products, but i love simplicity.
+alex. a. for the record, you don't need a computer to edit patches for the Organelle. You can do all of your editing from the Organelle (See 3:34 - 3:55)!
Go for BOTH.
I need a gd compass ring!
doesnt even have a helicopter game
0/10
Looks like the Axoloti for Hipster :)
+Jean Sébastien Tremblay You just wanted to sound popular, didn't you?
So Adventure Time went and had a sonic baby with a conglomerate of everything since the emergence of Strymon that Knobs would review. They saw that is was good and they baptized it in Brooklyn hipness and put smart knobs and let it breathe pure data instead of air. Thus the Organelle was created and it would split the waters and make people on reddit agrue and Axoloties swim away in fear or disgust and normal people masturb*** but it would surely also be responsible for a lot of good music. Amen.
Can anyone tell me type of sampler or drum machine is used. In, this video.
The Organelle is sampler/drum machine. More patches here: www.critterandguitari.com/organelle-patches
Sounds like the girl from Men I Trust
Thanks for watching!
Both musicians you reference are adults. Let's refer to them accordingly!
Critter & Guitari oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. ❤️
@elaminus Gabii's voice
@@CritterGuitariIncyou should seek therapy because your skin is thinner than graphene. Grow up.
I could live with the io choices but man, single core is rough
+soupforare Do you do a lot of multiprocessing in PD?
+soupforare Here's a post about the Organelle's processing power and single vs. multiple core use....
forum.critterandguitari.com/t/processing-power-on-organelle/135
These videos are pretty-looking and fun to watch, but people won't spend $500 on something they don't understand. It's a "sound engine that runs patches...," can that be any more ambiguous? How are the sounds themselves produced?
A "why > how > what" marketing approach is not conducive to a niche industry such as this one. cool vid though
+Xavier Mason Thank you for your concern. As explained in the video, the Organelle's patches are written in the open source programming language Pure Data (listen from 3:18 - 3:55). The term 'patch' could be replaced by 'mode:' a patch is a set of instructions that controls sound generation/file playback/effects.
Musicians who would like to use the Organelle 'out-of-the-box' do not need to know any programming to use it because Pure Data runs behind the scenes. Musicians can download free patches (modes) from our growing repository (organelle.io) and copy to their Organelle's USB drive. This way, musicians can focus on making music with the Organelle!
Creating and editing patches on the Organelle (or on another computer running Pure Data and then transferring to the Organelle) requires some more skills. But this built-in customizability allows a musician to make the Organelle whatever she wants it to be (synthesizer, sampler, drum machine, something nobody's thought of yet, etc.)! To learn more about Pure Data (PD) please visit: puredata.info!
Both the 'out-of-the-box' and 'programming' users can happily use the Organelle to make the music they want!
Not sure but I'm thinking you have to write computer code to make this do anything??? Is this like a Raspberry PI? Why does everything on your vids sound like odd sampling bits instead of music?
Thanks for watching. You don't need to do any programming to use the Organelle.
It's Pure Data! That's all it is. Pure Data is extremely powerful FREE software used for synthesis/sound design/sound processing/DSP/etc. It's crazy because I remember seeing the organelle years ago, and I wasn't aware that it was running Pure Data, so I thought it was kind of silly and wasn't very interested. In all honestly, the possibilities are limitless, *as corny as that sounds* with the organelle.
meh......495.... they r very confident.... and missed the point why pocket piano was so successful
U broke bro? That's cheap.
broken heart .....
omg so exciting !
