I’m getting ready to demo and remodel my shower with a KBRS tile basin and laticrete Hydroban board. Should I have any concern with using two different products? Would I be better off using GoBoard instead? Thank you for all your instructional vids !
Hi there - I just installed marble hexagon shape marble on my shower floor a few days ago and prior to installing the marble, my slope was fine (I triple checked). After the mortar under the marble dried, the slope towards the drain is completely off, as some hexagon tiles are higher than others and I used way too much mortar in some areas vs others - it basically looks like a canynon of marble. My question is - can I tile OVER what I already did to fix the slope towards the drain? If so, how would I do that? Just use more mortar towards the edges? This was my first time tiling and I learned manyyyy lessons. thanks in advance!
Alisa Bovino Sorry to say but you will most likely need to chip it out. Your drain will always be a problem if you try to tile over tile. If it wasn’t a shower floor sometimes you can tile over tile by cutting a checker board pattern into the tile so thin will bond. Not for a shower floor you will end up with a grout edge at the drain that will never last. Don’t get talked into silicone anything it simply will not last. Sorry
How bout those paper faced mosaic. My thought is the orange schluter board will bleed through the different clears, blues, of say a Oceanside paperfaced mosaic. Also the added water to remove the paper after only 20min after set. Any thoughts because this is exactly where I’m at on my current master shower. I’m using a pencil boarder between the mosaic and the homeowner likes the recessed mosaic. So packing it out with 1/4” backer is not a option for me.
Thank you for sharing the excellent tips. About mosaic tiles that have too much glue, I have to work with whatever tile my customer provides, and I have been concerned about this very issue at times. I've gone ahead and used the tile as is, with no problems so far. Soaking the tiles and removing the glue, and thus the mesh, and setting the small tiles individually is simply not an option. What would you recommend I should do the next time I run into this situation?
+Ted Weddell tactfully explain the issue with the customer and describe the problem. They should understand...hopefully! Not a bad idea to explain you can't warranty faulty time
More often than not, they shopped around for the lowest priced tile that looks nice. I agree, I should explain that I can't warrant the work. Thanks for the quick reply! :)
I have a ? The guy build are Handicap shower it on decking boards. and now I have plumb it now and close it in. what put on the decking boards . & got metal on the walls too. I know have take that all down to. what I use for the floor
we wouldn't recommend that. Primarily because the old pan could be leaking. It's best to start over and ensure the new pan is installed correctly and has no defects.
Thank you for posting... love this guy's voice (and his face, too!). Very easy listening and so helpful for us to DIY!
Watching this as my thin set is setting near my drain....hope this has what i need!

We don’t recommend timing over it, what kind of shower pan is it?

Repeat after me: meh. Again: meh. One more time: meh
Now say : sure
Let's put them both together.
Great video, thank you.
What is the best grout to use for shower a tiled shower floor, not walls for a DIYer??
IMO it’s Laticrete’s Spectralock 1 because it’s user friendly, pre-mixed, and has epoxy-like features

Do you have any video for setting a 4 size tile pattern that will span through several rooms ?
+les brinson none for now, did you search Sal DiBlasi's channel?
So modified thin set or none modified thin set use on shower pan area.
we used modified with this set up
@@HomeRepairTutor I thought you cannot use modified thinset on the wet area every day
What material is the shower pan made of?
My question too: plastic or metal, what?
“Maisure” 😆
haha yeah that's how people here in southern Utah talk. Makes me insane lol it's Mea not Mae
It’s weird lol, everything else sounded completely normal

Can you tile over an old shower pan
we wouldn't recommend that. Primarily because the old pan could be leaking. It's best to start over and ensure the new pan is installed correctly and has no defects.
Home Repair Tutor thank you for that but what if it's a newer house? And we know that shower pan was good?
Home Repair Tutor And I'm taking about a shower pan that has been with the house that was used with out tile?
+Austin Romo is it a tileable Shower Pan?
What was the reason for installing the tile diagonally in the shower pan?
+Bobby Slater it might look diagonal because of the camera angle. The tile in the pan is set straight to the walls.
Tip 4 Maaaasure ???
Lol, yes
