    I LOL’d all through this. Poor Bear got blamed when the goat run ya over! Haha Bear REALLY loves you. You’ve got an awesome dog. When you wanted to shew the goats and they wouldn’t go...he run ‘em off for ya. So smart. He’s doing his job wonderfully. He’s cute as pie too. Great info about tagging the sexes on same side all the time. I want a dwarf breed (name escapes now that I’m yapping about it lol) when I get them cause my place will be small. Plus I’m getting older and I have MS so the smaller the better. Anyway, TFS!!! Excellent info. God Bless ~Lisa

    I'm in Australia and you have to have a Property Identification Code (PIC Code). The tags then have that code on them. You only have to tag if taking them off the property, plus appropriate paperwork. I'm thinking about selling some of mine so looking to get tags but not looking forward to tagging some of my does or my bucks. Good info Daniel, thanks.

    Bear was such a camera hog on this one. I agree on the tagging, I did start standing over them with their neck between my knees to cut down on the chance of torn ears if the jerked around to much.

    Ear tagging goats is mandatory in the UK and nearly all animals have passports so that you know were the meat comes from farm count etc, nice to see you are proud enough of your goats to do this.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  6 лет назад +1

      If they are sold through a sale barn they are required to have a scrapies tag. You can get them through the USDA I believe, but most people just pay the few dollars and let the sale barn put them in.

    I know this comment isn’t in the right spot (it relates to goat illness),-I did make the same comment on the goat meds vid, but I wasn’t sure if you were still reading comments from that vid-I think it would really help us all out tho-Thanks Daniel! Great info, but I was trying to look back to see if I could find if you had any footage of B1/Thiamin deficiency and what it looks like-but I couldn’t find anything. I know you described it in this video, but it would be handy to see exactly what it looks like-I know it’s a terrible thing when ur animals are sick, but as you said, you want to be able to identify what’s going on real quick and fix it. I did see the vlog you did on the baby goat that didn’t make it (RIP baby goat😔) but you mentioned selenium deficiency at the time-that doesn’t seem like the same thing as thiamin deficiency-do both deficiencies look the same? Maybe you could do an episode on what illness in goats actually looks like (ie clips of what you have collected over the years) so we are able to learn from you how the goats behave/look like when something is wrong-just a thought.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  7 лет назад +2

      Hey Rachael, I don't actually have any clips of the adult goats with the thiamin deficiency. I really wish I did but at the time I just didn't think it would be a good idea to video that.
      The selenium issues was a little different. I think it had more to do with the does while they were pregnant and it was causing issues with the kids. Like the videos you watched of the sick baby goat.
      I will keep in mind for the future when I have a sick goat that I might be beneficial to others if I get it on video.

  • @zackeryverren5742

    Ok bigger question, and maybe an idea for a video. I will be doing this soon but its something I'd like to know befor I start. How much money potential yearly is possible of meat goat. Say I have 30 doe and a few bucks can I bread another 10 in a few more months and so on so i have different sale times. And how long after birth till i can sale. Do males sale better then females. Can I wait for the babies to get big enough to breed the bread then breed them for babies then sale them. Can u get a little into specifics for me. Just everything u can. I understand your probly pretty strained for time but I'd really like the information. And anything you think would be helpful. My thought is around 50 head doe. Few males breeding at different times. So I can hit the sale barn every couple months for a good extra income.... advice. Dos and don'ts.

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
