- in this video I retrofit an OEM heated steering wheel onto a BMW 135i; this video will work for all 1st generation (E81,82,87,88) BMW 1 series; with potential slight differences for which fuse to tap into. this video is meant for people who already have basic knowledge in things such as wiring/pinning connectors, etc.
the principles of this video also apply to the E9X 3 series apart from different panels and fuse location

Love it. Thank you so much. I did it backwards, I reached into the glovebox and setup the fuse tap and grounds and then threw that over to the driver side. So now I can sit comfortably for the easy part and only need to reassemble the steering wheel to test.
On 3 series I don’t need to remove the glovebox tho so it was much easier, and I routed the wire UNDER the stereo with a camera snake to push it through. Took like 5mins and didn’t need to remove stereo or any trim, just the two panels; 1 by the pedals and 1 under the glovebox, which was 5 T20 screws. Very easy.
Thanks! Doing this tomorrow.
Great! You should make a video 😉. Let me know if you have any questions!
@@greezysgarage Haha. I should have made a video on a ton of stuff, but I am not a social media guy, nor talk on camera.
I did the rearview mirror retrofit to have the garage openers, did 60/40 split folding rear seats, doing this heated steering wheel, will do power folding mirrors retrofit once I find a good parts car in black since I have power sport seats and wiring is included with those, and then all I’ll have left is heated seats and I’ll be good. Lol.
I did ruin the female pins tho, and only ordered 5. I don’t have the right took. So I ordered 10 more and will hopefully get this done in 3 days when FCP Euro order arrives.
Well good luck! I hope I did a good enough job of explaining it. I'm guessing you're in Europe/Canada then? I don't think I've seen any (recent) BMWs here in the States without Power Mirrors, and only occasionally with manual seats. I also did a video retrofitting heated seats into my 128i, (on which I made the more detailed video of this retrofit) which was just plug and play.
It's nice how its relatively easy to retrofit so many different things if you know what you're doing. Let me know how it goes!
@@greezysgarage Colorado car. Le Mans blue exterior that is absolute junk right now with paint fade, but rare color for sure. Black leather interior eith black dash and black headliner so it’s all blacked out. Power seats with lumbar and that leg extension. No power folding mirrors on M Sports tho. Not that I’ve ever seen.
Interesting, is it a 128 or a 135? This car is an E88 135i with the M Sport package.
You have 200 subscriber now🎉
Thanks! Every one counts :)
Very good video. Very in depth. I like. :)
thanks! my previous video is 1+ hours long and even more in-depth if you'd like some more explanation too.
@@greezysgarage I stumbled across your videos because I was looking for something on one series. And then I started watching some of your other stuff and I sub to your other channel also. And I like every video that I've seen of your so far. I have not watched them all but the ones that I have watched I have liked . You are very personable in your videos and come across as being very genuine.
Thank you! I always appreciate encouragement. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to see this comment, it is a bit difficult when it is a reply to another comment because I don't get the notification then. If there's anything else you'd like to see on the 1 series, let me know!@@willshepherd4544
Super straightforward and very descriptive. I did mine today and it works.
But it doesn’t get really hot hot just warm just a bit over body temperature warm. Is that how it should be? Just thought to confirm.
Yes, It might depend on the condition/age the wheel is, but it's possible that a different fuse/power source could make it better.
@@greezysgarage Awesome! 👏🏽 I thought mine wasn’t working properly lol. But good to know. Thank you for the tutorials. You’re the best… And I subscribed to your page as well.
Thanks, I appreciate it! I've leaned a lot from other people, so I like to make videos that are even higher quality and easier to follow. Since, unfortunately some of the videos I create either don't have available tutorials/videos, or they aren't great quality.
Does f20 heated steering wheel works on e90?
I don't believe so, No. You can fit this style wheel, but it has to be from a model that was fit with hydraulic steering such as the Pre-Lci 5 and 6 series/M5&M6 as opposed to electric steering like all 2,3,&4 series models.
(As far as I'm aware)
This is because the spline size/count where the steering wheel connects to the steering shaft is different. You will also need to do very involved wiring, which includes a custom $250 CAN Bus adapter box to achieve functionality of the buttons. However, the horn and airbag will work normally and the airbag requires no modification. I currently have this as a work in progress, (updates on my instagram) and currently have all functionality besides the paddle shifters, which I believe I know how to do.
