Coming from Slovenia, I am really grateful that you have done presentation of wine regions and some of the greatest wines!
Keep up with great work!
Hey Luka. Matthew dis mention Posavje but he didn’t brake it down to sub regions. A lot is happening there in the last couple of years and the quality is rising really fast! It is definitely a place that needs to be mentioned more but with crazy numbers of winemakers and brands it’s very hard to mention everyone :)
Many thanks, this makes me happy. I did mention all three of those wineries in the video :)
Dr.! Your wife speaks with a Singapore accent. I think. Love your take on Brda. It is my favorite spot on the planet. I was beyond fortunate to do some barrel tasting at Klinec winery several years ago. Sadly, they closed their kitchen, but the wines continue to be amazing. Lovely family, as you know. BTW ... next time you go to Brda, do yourself a favor and stay with "the lavender sisters." That is the "special name" we gave them. Just look up "Farm Tourism Breg." Of course they have their own house wine, with grapes from the hill near their farm. A buddy of theirs in Italy takes care of the fermentation and bottling. They started to meld their lavender with different products, years ago and the results are lovely. Anyhooo ... the two sisters who run the place represent everything that is beautiful about Slovenia. Go see them. And thank you for the lovely review on Slovenian wines. I have three cases of Simic wine at home. The "Giacato," as you know, is exceedingly reasonable and a good representation of of a white wine from the region. Yes, it is a coop wine, but you can't beat the price. Best of luck to you in your wine endeavors. D
Klinec is stellar indeed! HNY Thanks for the nice comment.
Great video! I'm Italian living near Collio and I'm so proud and also jealous of the work of my Slovenian neighbours.
Great wine on both side of the border!
good pronounciation for a english speaker! i hope you visit when everything goes back to normal.
Thank you. Yes I like to go back often.
Great video about wines of Slovenia. I'm from Slovenia and just visited Vipava valley - house Čebron and Brda - house Dolfo. Planing on visiting house Ščurek in a couble of days. I like how you pronaunce slovenian producer names (correct but nice accent :) ).
Great, I hope you have a wonderful time. Soooo many good wines. Thanks for the compliment
Darjan there are so many great wineries in Vipava and Brda. Send me an email to saso@vinoo.co and I would be more than happy to send you some recommendations. Matthew big thanks for your work! I really appreciate you and your hard work.
Hi Metthew, thumbs up and big respect for this presentation. Just one hot tip for next time :): Pucer iz Vrha (Malvasia wine)
Thanks for the tip :)
Jure you are right! Pucer has a wonderful malvazija wine
Very nice video, great breakdown of Slovenian wines. I really appreciated the effort with proper pronounciation, it can be really hard for non slavic speakers.
Thanks a lot! I'm a fan of the wines and am in the country often.
Thank you so much Mathhew. My wife and I will be spending 2 weeks in Slovenia and Coratia end of August 2023, and really look forward to the trip as well as the wine exploring experience. Absolutely new to the wines from these two countries hence your series of videos really help a lot ! Btw, just ordered "Cracking Croatian Wine" from Amazon. Guess we will be bring the book with us along the trip. 😉
Wow thanks! Enjoy your time as there are wonderful wines to be had in both places :)
I’m in Slovenia right now and really appreciate this intro-will be trying some! Thanks :)
Niceeee, enjoy the wines!
Thanks Matthew! We are headed to Slovenia soon, heavy focus on the food and wines. This was very helpful!
You will have a lot of fun, there are some great wines there. I did a blind tasting video putting some of their top reds against some great Italian reds on the channel too.
I love Slovenian wines, Batic wines to be exact! And the country itself is soooo awesome. Cool, kind people! I appreciate their love for natural products. I dream about going back to Slovenia again. ❤
Batič is fantastic!
Big fan of Slovenian wines :) Some of my favorite producers are in this country! High five for this great presentation, with definitely some of the best producers 🔥
The wines aren’t half bad right??? Hahaha thanks
Great video, I love your energy. Also good job on pronouncing some of the names, I know it can be difficult to pronounce this language.
Thank you! It is tough but I’m in the country every year
Thanks again! 😄
thanks for checking it out!
Actually, Carso is just italian for Kras, which is tke base for Karst and all expressions connected with such terrain all over the globe. Carso, the region of Kras in Italy is also populated with Slovene nationals, not be able to join the rest of Primorska region after 25 years of italian occupation of Primorska (1918-1943). We, the ethnic Slovenes of Primorska, consider Primorska region to extend way over italian border until the Slovenian ethnic border as it was under Austro-Hungarian rule.
Da!
I love Slovenian wine! Thanks for the video. When I was in Ljubljana, I went to this wine bar. I think it was named Movina or Pops pizza and sport. They served Merlot (Lisjak/Vipavska Dolina) Pritlicje. Do you know what they are and where I could possibly buy them? It is difficult to break it down.
Yes, Movia and Friends Wine Bar. It depends on where you are to get them. Where are you living?
How about Rodica? Getting ready to try some.
Very nice wines
Best wine..
Matthew, you have missed the most important winery in Slovenia, MANSUS. He has an almost extinct variety called Klarnica and makes unbelievable orange wines
Thanks Milan but I obv can’t include every winery in a 15 min video :p
@@drmatthewhorkey Sorry, you're right. I just hope you had the chance to taste Klarnica. It was actually extinct but owner of Mansus got the seeds from the gene bank and built the vineyard from that. It is very interesting white wine and he's making some amazing wines from it. If you didn't have the chance to taste it, don't miss it next time you visit Slovenia. And this is not the advertising, I just love his wines.
I know of his wines but haven't tasted yet. I have tasted blends with Klarnica in it
Kind of 1st
you are first!
