A lot of people said that MMBN5 went way too far into the fantasy elements, but I feel that that line was already crossed with the final dungeon of MMBN2 and everything involving Pulse Transmission in MMBN3.
Before BN4, there wasn't fantasy - Just really bad science. Case in point, the reason given by Yuuichirou at the end of BN1 for why he modified Hub's DNA. Pulse Transmission-like systems were and are a staple of sci-fi (see: The Matrix, Neuromancer). BN2's Apartment Complex was a combination of Capcom not knowing computer science, Capcom not knowing how radiation works, and Capcom taking lots and lots of drugs. Really, BN4 should be blamed for the fantasy crap, not BN5. It's the one that started talking about souls and invented NetNavi Hell, which you get sent to when these magic Battlechips corrupt your soul and show up in your Custom Screen even when you delete them WOOOOOOOOOO SPOOPY.
@Angolin With the first part I completely agree, although for the second part i always thought that by 'soul' they mean the Navi's core/kernel rather than literal soul, i could be wrong though.
This sounds like even the music is fighting. It's pretty menecing at first, then it suddenly turns heroic and happy, then before it loops it's just pure action.
I know it's a 4 years old comment but Powerful Enemy, the boss theme, has the same idea. The first 1/3 sounds rather dark and melancholic, representing the evil side of the conflict. The second 1/3 sounds rather upbeat and heroic, representing the good side of the conflict. And the last 1/3 sounds like the action and clash between the two until it repeats the cycle. And considering MMBN5 has no "friendly" fights in the story (exception for optional ones) and every fight feels like an actual conflict, this makes the BN5 boss theme brilliant in my eyes.
The MMBN bosses are so Un-Megaman-like that it's downright AMAZING. I bet half the people who look at this guy probably thinks he's from some Final Fantasy game or something. NOPE. MEGAMAN BRO.
Ah man. This was a badass moment for me. Just as I reach the last 300 HP of Nebula Gray I get all the chips for Life Sword. And with a single strike I finish the battle. Awesome.
I almost had that moment, except that I put the chips in the wrong order and ended up dying... 😓 when I finally did beat him, the killing blow was a skully1 chip, kinda anticlimactic lol

I'm currently replaying the Battle Network series on the legacy collection and am on Team Colonel. After playing the PS2 game Dark Cloud, Nebula Grey gave me massive PTSD to the Dark Genie. Loved the story and music but the boss was just heavy Dark Cloud trauma for me. XD
One of my favorite final boss soundtracks from the Battle Network series. A shame not one of these amazing Battle Network soundtracks even made it into Smash Ultimate...I actually prefer Megaman.EXE over short Megaman. I would love to see X, Omega, Elpizo, Megaman.EXE, Protoman.EXE, Zero, the Reploid, Bass.EXE, Colonel.EXE, Serenade.EXE, Megaman from Starforce, Acid Ace and Rogue in Smash as well as a whole 100+ soundtracks from Megaman Zero, Battle Network, Transmission and Starforce.

Ahhhh I loved having Nebula Gray's battlechip in my fights against other people. :'D - Nebula Gray - *Fist appears* SLAM *All panels broken* Nowhere to run. They hated the shit out it. And then finish it with my Bass EXE chip. Total domination.
Susilo Hadi Nugroho Look it up on youtube, there's a whole official album dedicated to the battlenetwork 15th anniversary Capcom made remastering all the famous tracks throughout all 6 games. It's a great album^^
This is why Ilike BN so much. I took the concept of older MM games and remodeled them into epic forms AND brought new and menacing beasts to the series. I mean, not even X could have pulled THIS out his helmet.
Airshoes is key, not necessary if you have Panel Return, but it definitely makes the fight that much easier and leaves room for better stuff. Darkchips (for unison obviously) that help in Team Protoman are mostly Dark Sword and Tornado, but make sure you have a Invis packed with you. Team Colonel is slightly easier in that regard as its easy to land that Darkwide (and DarkInvis is just godly)... Also, S chips usually have very good stuff to use, like Navichips (Larkman, Shademan), LifeSword program advance, SuperVulcan (again, use Invis). Tornadoes packed with an Atk+30 or something also do quite a wallop and can be even further increased if you go go Soul Unison with Gyro , though the latter may be a little overkill. Basically because your chip library isn't all that big at that point, you pretty much have to take the code where you can do the most reliable damage for. I usually use S and R for this guy since these usually have these high damage ones at this point. As for Nebula's attacks, the more you dodge the better off you be, but if you have something powerful prepared (like that 800 damage Tornado), don't be afraid to take 100 damage if it means hitting that attack.... Lastly, healing chips may help if you have trouble dodging in general.
BubbleWrap is a perfect chip to use for the fight, considering it never goes away, and NebulaGray only has a single Thunder attack, and even that is really easy to dodge. Also, like Blitz1Blacktail1 said, spam ChaosUnisons and kill him with Dark Sword or Dark Shot.
***** Repair chips also help here really well, since Nebula Grey will be destroying panels on a semi-frequent basis. less chances for it to attack, the better.
one of my favorite themes in the entire series! one of the very few i like more than this theme is the N1 Grand Prix battle theme from MMBN3. as amazing as the BN series was storyline-wise and gameplay-wise, really, the best thing about these games was the music! and of all the types, the battle themes stood out CONSIDERABLY! its things like this that make me proud to be a true Megaman fan forever
Wait, people play BN3+ without using Under Shot? I don't even consider a NaviCust setup unless I can use that program. Maybe for a challenge run I could see it, but I don't see what you could possibly slot in that's better than just Undershot, even with no other programs.
I struggled with this boss for a bit but eventually gained enough muscle memory to easily evade the vast majority of his attacks, i am surprised so many people struggled so much with him i also feel like i am one of the few people who never once touched a dark chip when playing.
Hey, the last time I played this game and heard this song was a few months ago. After hearing this song again after a long time I didn't think it will be THIS good hearing this song again!

I think the best version of the Nebula Gray battle theme is the original. I still have no idea why the sound team for the DS and XOver got the music beat of it wrong.
I agree. He looks like the final boss of something like fire emblem sacred stones. In fact, swap both of them around and you'd never could ever guess nebula gray belonged to a megaman game. Same can be said for boring old Dr weil and another final boss from another game.
CURSE YOU, NEBULA GREY OMEGA!! The ONLY reason I beat him was because I learned that his huge dragon head attack does enough to hit you into rage, and then I'd use a 1200 damage(ish) bassanly on top of all the s-code PAs... And also redfruit3. Easily the hardest boss I've faced outside of Bass XX, which is pmuch just an urban legend at this point :p
I've fought BassXX legit, but dear fucking god you have no hope if you don't get NorthWind IMMEDIATELY. My best attempt of almost 50 got him to 1500-ish health. (I fought him by getting BN5 on the Wii U E-shop, where BassCrossMega and all 20 secret chips are unlocked by just going into communications and trying to connect. Capcom gave us something. :))
Really depends on Alpha's ability to absorb things. Though if Bass can be absorbed by Alpha and manage to survive enough to repair himself, doubt he'd be able to do the same to the cyber beasts.
0:20-0:39 i have felt that is the true final game of the Megaman Battle Network main series and MMBN6 would be a spin-off of the main series (what did you just say?,ugh,Silly Hitomi!,Megaman Battle Network 6 is the final game indeed!)
Well, i need to agree, this part also sounds like it's the final MMBN game... i played every one of those and i loved every of those, i think i'll even try Chrono X! ( And also come back to those original ones... man, i really loved those series... if Capcom created MMBN7 for 3DS i would Pre-Order it!
Easily my most despised Mega Man final Boss. Life Virus was fairly easy. Gospel was fairly easy. Alpha was a challenge considering you just fought Bass. Duo was just a matter of patience and not running out of chips other than that meh. Nebula Gray... ALL OF MY HATE! which is ironic considering what it is. Gregar/Falzar facing it multiple times in game belittled it's presence.
***** For me: I never played 1 or 2 or 5 (getting to 5 soon) but of 3 4 and 6, Alpha was the hardest for me. I hated it because I had to finish off Bass first, and also get rid of his stupid pink shield around his core. Duo was frustrating, but I found the pattern, and defeated him. Gregar (not falzar): He was tough. I could never escape his moves in time. Thoroughly enjoyed all of the ones I've played so far, and am looking forward to 5. But so far, everyone hates Nebula Grey. :S
what? Alpha is the easiest boss in the series. he has no invincibility frames so all you have to do is gun him down with Z-canon advances and he's a cakewalk
I like Nebula Grey more than any other final boss in the BN series. The moving hurtbox was stupid as hell, but it's the only final boss in the series with halfway interesting attack patterns. Granted, liking Nebula Grey the best is a pretty low bar to hit - Barring Nebula Gray, I've always found the final bosses in MMBN to be absolutely terrible. They're super easy, they have some obnoxious gimmick that invalidates entire strategies (making the fight either extremely tedious or nearly impossible if your folder is based on one of those strategies, but laughably easy otherwise), and their attacks are more easily dodgeable than those of most of the Navis in the game.
I used to beat nebula over and over again on my gba sp back when i was a kid ..i tried booting the game up after all these years and I have no idea what im doing ;n;
Bass went from standard, To Bass gs with gospel input, To Bass omega with the dark soul, To Bass alpha and Bass (NG) or Bass xx, Then in 6 went to Bass bx
It's kinda true though, Alpha, and Life Virus look like something completely unrelated. Life Virus and scuttle lusts look like something from metroid. Not sure what game alpha could be relate-able to but, it doesn't look like like something you'd see in a mega man game.
you sure??? cuz if memory serves (though i was only a kid when fighting nebula gray so pardon me if im wrong) dark chips just fizzle out when fighting nebula gray...
And even then you have to time the moment you release B button holding up when it´s purple or other wise if you do when it´s green dark mega will appear
I have double team ds and I was spamming my dark chips (stupid, stupid) and giga chips when I finally looked at its health. Long story short, I love action replays.
Shadow soul/chaos made nebula grey manageable to the point of never needing to use chips, especially if you constantly abuse Django sp cuz dark invis will spam that as a result of its constant use. :D
I found him easier than Duo, but still a challanging, the theme is better than the Duo I had to admit. Probably becuase I play Team Colonel, Shadow Soul has float shoes preventing from cracking the panels and antidamage.
I have to admit, I've played two games in the series (not much, but still). Both were a breeze... except the final bosses. In 3, Bass always got in my way, and I needed a special deck just to beat him, and Nebula Gray is just downright annoying.
Certainly fitting enough to be Final Fantasy. But, man how this guy pissed me off as a kid. I had so much trouble with him the first time. Not as much trouble as Duo though.
Dark drill fusion use the charged atk (if u have good timing) or drill3 chips,vulc3,super vulc with +10/30 easy peasy lol tho not sure about his Omega never fought it yet I've always beated him without airshoes
bass exe is just absorbing everything he see's including the attempt of absorbing gospel and absorbing nebula grey and in the game series he also absorbed gregar and falzar

@@anexplosion5436 thats baby stuff, have you seen dirge the man handled ALL FINAL BOSSES EVEN NEBULA GRAY OMEGA AT 10K HEALTH AND WITHOUT DAMAGE.
The planets and stars have to be in fucking alignment before you Dark Searchman soul.
i wonder who would win in a fight like this between Alpha, Nebula Grey,Falzar and Gregar? that fight would be brutal and epic.
Really depends on Alpha's ability to absorb things. Though if Bass can be absorbed by Alpha and manage to survive enough to repair himself, doubt he'd be able to do the same to the cyber beasts.
Definitely the cyber beast
This is my jam guys omg brings back memories
0:20-0:39 i have felt that is the true final game of the Megaman Battle Network main series and MMBN6 would be a spin-off of the main series (what did you just say?,ugh,Silly Hitomi!,Megaman Battle Network 6 is the final game indeed!)
Well, i need to agree, this part also sounds like it's the final MMBN game... i played every one of those and i loved every of those, i think i'll even try Chrono X! ( And also come back to those original ones... man, i really loved those series... if Capcom created MMBN7 for 3DS i would Pre-Order it!
this theme is so fucking awesome
I'm gonna sample this.
This music would have been the real final battle.
Nebula Gray is THE Hunka Hunka Burnin' Love. He just got up on the wrong side of the bed.
Gregar/Falzar facing it multiple times in game belittled it's presence.
capcom maked the boss only to you hate he so he can be more and more powerfull
be patient and you can defeat him =)
***** For me: I never played 1 or 2 or 5 (getting to 5 soon) but of 3 4 and 6,
Alpha was the hardest for me.
***** Really? That's awesome! 'Cause see, my GBA is broken, so I've been using a gamecube, but that broke. That's cool!
Good music for this final boss! This music tells me, it's time to end all of this!
Why is nebula gray red and purple instead of gray?
This is the best final boss battle theme in the series, then comes Gospel, then the guy from BN3 (forgot the name)
Alpha Is Its Name.
Best GBA boss theme EVER!!!
DarkDrill Chaos unison.
Thats one way of speedrunning this guy.
I feel like a win cause people are saying this is the hardest boss and the only final i never beat was duo.exe
@FLOWEY'S CRAZY VIDEOS Haha I couldn't dodge his darn hooks.
This fucking boss... I almost rage quit because of it.
The best theme of the freakkin series, besides, all you need to defeat nebula is the shadow soul, period. I miss the good old day...
I used to beat nebula over and over again on my gba sp back when i was a kid
..i tried booting the game up after all these years and I have no idea what im doing ;n;
You were a master then.
You have fallen off the path.
Find your route back, power up, and EXEcute the Routine!
Bass went from standard, To Bass gs with gospel input, To Bass omega with the dark soul, To Bass alpha and Bass (NG) or Bass xx, Then in 6 went to Bass bx
A collection for Switch is pretty much all I need to buy the console now lol
Guess what? Capcom is granting your wish. "Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection" is scheduled for a 2023 release.
He's called Nebula Gray.....yet he's Red? Were they trying to make reference to both Colonel and Protoman's colors?.....
Can you do an extended version of the boss encounter music from this game, "Black Power"........I love the beat of that tune!!!!!
Before CAPCOM went Maverick...
....looks like Master Thomas.
It's kinda true though, Alpha, and Life Virus look like something completely unrelated. Life Virus and scuttle lusts look like something from metroid. Not sure what game alpha could be relate-able to but, it doesn't look like like something you'd see in a mega man game.
What do you mean? Alpha is basicly an armored devil.
I luv this theme brings back my gaming expirence
That was the only way to do it that quickly. I love Bass so much. Get the game again bro!
Ok, for a kid who walked into attacks yet was dedicated to ending it, this guy was hard as shit.
This reminds me of Crisis City from Sonic 06 and some other VG song that I can't name of the top of my head right now....
I miss this game, I remember deleting Bass in under 15 seconds with that combo xD
team colonel, Dark Invis, Shadow Chaos unision, win battle,.... thats literally how i beat him...
you sure??? cuz if memory serves (though i was only a kid when fighting nebula gray so pardon me if im wrong) dark chips just fizzle out when fighting nebula gray...
Bokune9999 not when you use the dark chips for chaos unison
David : Soul Food Gaming ahhhhhh... ok...
And even then you have to time the moment you release B button holding up when it´s purple or other wise if you do when it´s green dark mega will appear
David : Soul Food Gaming Chaos Unison is for scrubs who are afraid to use the Dark Chips itself.
you can always use forte cross in colonel =)
Not without the replay code for the english version. It's only thing that let me use it after years and years of searching.
Death Templer he says it because batling nebula with bass cross is awesome
I know. I Forte=epicness. Forte x Rockman = OMG YES PLEASE
Plus it made it even more like the movie they made after this game
Too bad the movie is only like 1 hour or so, very short
I never seen him in the movie but game only i bet he was super tough in the movie
Music in Megaman is always awesome!
Along with Proto Chaos.
You only have to hit him 5 times with your charged attack and it really isn't THAT hard to do one, so...
I have double team ds and I was spamming my dark chips (stupid, stupid) and giga chips when I finally looked at its health. Long story short, I love action replays.
Here's an idea. How about Capcom makes a battle network legacy games like megaman zero and zx?
Edit: it seems my prayers have been heard🎉
Guess what
Aged well
The only time Capcom will remember they had an RPG spin off
Your wish will be granted in 2023.
"Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection" is set for release on April 14th 2023.
Shadow soul/chaos made nebula grey manageable to the point of never needing to use chips, especially if you constantly abuse Django sp cuz dark invis will spam that as a result of its constant use. :D
man i love theis theme
This one’s beautiful
You can use Chaos Unison bro. Two area grabs and dark Circlegun FOREVER!
I found him easier than Duo, but still a challanging, the theme is better than the Duo I had to admit.
Probably becuase I play Team Colonel, Shadow Soul has float shoes preventing from cracking the panels and antidamage.
I like this version better than the DS version
I hate his design,
but god his theme is damn good T_T
I always thought the bosses represent a theme on the games.
Chaos Napalm unison, Invis*, Thunder* ,Charge shot, gun del sol 3 D, charge shot, gundel sol 3 D
This is my theme song
Search soul is all you need! You can shoot from anywhere! It's the best soul in the game!!!
Numberman sucks in liberation missions but numbersoul is useful though
+SuperAlphaZX Numberman sucks in battle, but not his ability to search 2x3 panels for items without battling.
When your planting the number trap with numberman, he just like I don't wanna put it down. What's up with that?!
I have to admit, I've played two games in the series (not much, but still). Both were a breeze... except the final bosses. In 3, Bass always got in my way, and I needed a special deck just to beat him, and Nebula Gray is just downright annoying.
I miss the battle network games. lucky thing i have emulators and a wii. (Wii to play network transmission.)
Yeah...Like he has 4000 K Health but you are more powerful as you play as Hub for the battle...That would be a very interesting battle
I mean the Chaos Unison of Colonel.
Certainly fitting enough to be Final Fantasy.
But, man how this guy pissed me off as a kid. I had so much trouble with him the first time.
Not as much trouble as Duo though.
Dark drill fusion use the charged atk (if u have good timing) or drill3 chips,vulc3,super vulc with +10/30 easy peasy lol tho not sure about his Omega never fought it yet I've always beated him without airshoes
when i saw falzar i was like "get your ass back to jurassic park"
bass exe is just absorbing everything he see's including the attempt of absorbing gospel and absorbing nebula grey and in the game series he also absorbed gregar and falzar
Bass: Absorb ALL the things!!!!!
And he absorbed the Life virus's data hence why he had the life aura
ChaudBlaze7
***** He is hooded. Well he can switch to be hooded or not. his brown cloak has a hood (you can see it when battling him)
I think that was actually a PostGame Email in BN1
I was 10. (Now 15) and back then i felt like a badass espetialy whit Django at my side
