Just FYI, my son had similar issues when he was little. He didn’t start talking until he was 4 1/2 and that was forced by a speech therapist. His doctor diagnosed him with Lazy Boy Syndrome. He was extremely stubborn and wouldn’t do anything unless he wanted to. He grunted and pointed to the things he wanted. If I tried to force him to say “eat” or “cup”; he would just walk away. He would rather do without than speak. I thought there was something wrong. My daughter, 2 years older, started talking at 9 months. Why isn’t he talking? The speech therapist said that the ones who take longer to speak are usually the smartest and she was right. My son will be 22 years old in April and is extremely smart. He will be graduating in May with a double major and a minor in 2 different fields.
It’s hard thinking there might be something wrong with your kid. But, your son is so young. Sometimes just a big growth spurt can throw a kid off for a few months; then they leap forward seemingly over night. Trust in your doctors. Do what they say. And give your son all the love and support he needs. Everything will works out the way it’s supposed to. Keep being the amazing mom that you are and everything will fall into place. ♥️

Thank you, I really needed to hear that today. I feel ya, it's been difficult to pick up the hook after such a busy day working with my son and trying to get him to speak. We are advancing with the sign language and working on getting him more sensory related toys to help him learn. I think with this new schedule, it will allow me to crochet a little bit each day and maybe get something accomplished soon. I admire the fact that you are pushing through. I can't thank you enough for your hard work during this difficult time for all of us. Essential workers aren't appreciated enough. ((hugs)) ~Nadia

QUESTION, is it better to cut all my yarn ends and weave them in, or do how I do and drag my yarn up then crochet a lil sc border to cover it? I see everyone else cutting at each row. I'm kinda new. What works best and why?

I haven't wanted to pick up my hook to finish some wips that only need a LITTLE bit more to finish. I share your lack of cro-jo even tho the projects catch my eyes. May good luck and successes continue with Naser's communication.

It is lovely to see you back:) I know 2020 was challenging for all, but you seem to have had so much more on your shoulders. Two is such a difficult age for any child (and parents), but it seems you and your husband are on the right path to dealing with your son's challenges. I read previous comments and am glad you are getting encouragement from those who have had similar problems. I have GI/immune issues and follow Dr. Amy Myers (The Autoimmune Solution) online. Think you would benefit from her advice, if you aren't already following her. In 2021, I am working on a bunch of projects - an eight-star blanket for Project Linus, preemie blankets and hats for Charli's Love, hat/scarf sets for Operation Gratitude. Some days it is hard to get my crojo going, but because these are for charity, pick up my hook and then I feel better:) Of course, just looking at all the wonderful yarns on-line makes me itch to crochet. LOL! Am looking forward to your scarf pattern. Be kind to yourself! I will be keeping you and your family in thought and prayer. P.S. Love the tattoo😊

I have made 3 preemie baby blankets and almost done with the 4th. I have made 1 regular size baby blanket and a cute bumble bee amigurumi to go with it. I did the Furls CAL with the champagne bottle and 2 glasses, I made a gingerbread man Amigurumi (was behind on my Crochet Society boxes) Made a cutsie bunny, octopus and cup of hot chocolate amigurumis with the yarn from the last Crochet Society boxes yarn cause I didn't like the projects in the booklet. And last I am almost done with a shark cross body bag I am making for my daughter. And almost forgot did the CAL for January with Jayda in Stitches (there are 12 parts to it).

My son is Autistic and has Intellectual Disability. He is 11 now, but still speaks in a way that isn't typical. But he does communicate A LOT, in his way. He takes things he's heard on shows, movies, or phrases he's heard us say a lot, and uses them to communicate.
One thing I've learned over these past several years with my son is this: he was always communicating, despite what many experts said about him simply "babbling" or "randomly saying things he heard without meaning." They weren't random or without meaning. And I hope the experts you're seeing aren't saying that to you either. Children and people in general are always communicating.
Have you seen the movie, "Life Animated"? It's about how a boy who had trouble talking started using phrases from Disney movies to communicate. It's a great movie.
IDK what exactly your son is going through, and maybe what he is experiencing is different than that boy in the movie, or my boy, but even if it's different, the struggle is similar. So I just want to show Solidarity

Hi, I don't always check in (I'm trying to not be on my phone/laptop/computer as much) but I had to right now because the still of you that is w/the video notification made it look like you were crying. We all get down once in awhile, especially during winter. I think that winter (less light) and the whole covid thing has really made hard times even harder. I'm not a nurse/doctor but I do have 4 (grown) children and 6 grandchildren plus neices/nephews & friend's children (one has 9 or 10 children!) so I just wanted to say that all children are different, do thinks at different times, etc. I know one boy who didn't say a whole lot till he was a lot older than your son. I know it's good to get advice from medical personnel but only you (& your husband - but more so you because moms are like that-we're just cool like that) know your son. The older he gets the more intune you'll be. Also, follow your gut feeling. You'd be amazed how right you are. Don't feel that just because the doctors/nurses have a degree makes them smarter. Oh my, I didn't mean to go on & on about this. I want you to read this but don't post this. It's for your eyes only 👀😂.
I don't have FB or Instagram anymore so I'll have to check in here more often. I also have snapchat but not sure how long. Is the tattoo place the one on Caledonia St? I always wanted to get a tattoo but I have too many health issues & those were one thing that I can't do. We're having our house remodeled, have to move half of the house out plus we have to move out. Will be 2-3 months.
I'm telling you all of this so hopefully you're feeling better. I just hope I bring enough yarn/patterns w/me. Course, I could always say that I need to buy more yarn.
    Take care!

So far in 2020 I’ve finished a lap blanket that I started in December, I made a baby blanket for a baby that will be born next week, I made three hats and sent them to a friend who is living in a very cold part of the country right now, and I am 3/4 of the way done with a large blanket that someone commissioned me to make. My friend's youngest boy did not say a word until he was three. He had missed all the milestones for communication and had been seeing a therapist but was making no real progress. He was with me for the day to give his mom a break and we went for a walk into the countryside. He saw a rabbit run down into its burrow and started laughing so much, it was like a peal of bells! I said "The rabbit ran into his hole" and he answered excitedly "Hole! Hole!". After a pause he chuckled again and said "Hole! Hole!" - it was adorable after the years of silence. He literally had never even said mama or dadda before that. At the end of the day I took him home and my friend asked him if he had had a nice time and he burst out laughing and yelled "Hole! Hole!" over and over and over.... Of course, I had to explain what on earth he meant!
Scroll forward three months when I next got the chance to visit the family again. He stood in the hallway with shades on and a guitar round his neck! "Ooh! What's that?" I asked him enthusiastically, the way you do with a toddler. He gave me a withering look, which I probably deserved for being patronising, LOL. "This, Auntie, is my instrument!" he informed me. "I shall play it for you if you would like me to".
Sorry this is a little long but it just shows that milestones being missed isn't the end of the world. Sometimes they just need their own pacing. Much love to you and your family, Nadia.

I have finished a plain old single crochet velvet hat for my husband. And I just grabbed a cardigan that I put down about a year ago and I really want to wear it so I am doing that. It is just sewrellas easy cardigan. All double crochets. My middle son was placed on the spectrum at about five years old. He was not able to speak well, he was very shy... to the point of it being a handicap almost. Like he would only talk to me or his brother. And that was in Kota language... no one else could understand him even if he did talk to them. Naser will be just what Naser is supposed to be. Time will bring new milestones. You guys are giving him extra help and that is awesome. Don’t listen to other people if they try to compare him to other children. There is no need, we all have our very own strengths and weaknesses. He’s probably just too busy to slow down and focus right now. Active boys are very very special! I have a couple of them.

Unfortunately Nas is in that grey area between 18 months to 3 years is where kids really start learning to speak and express themselves and most of the time he’s going to be frustrated and you’re stressed because he can’t voice yet what he wants so words are just being thrown at him and he can’t really associate the 2 together yet. Because once they learn to talk they NEVER stop lol. I gave my daughter 2 choices and we started juice or milk. Oatmeal or cereal. And her picking milk is repeat the word and hold it up and she’d nod. She’d reach for more food and I’d say more please. And eventually she started mimicking the words. She was always a little behind the rest of the kids but she just wanted to do things on her time. Nas will be the same. Don’t let the doctors worry you. I know you’re an amazing mama and you’re doing everything right. Just takes time

Everyone forgets, that it's ok...to not be ok sometimes. Life is never easy.. do what you need to do for you and your family. We all need to recharge sometimes... so hang in there. All in all, 2020, wasn't a bad year here, I know many battled a lot of things... we were blessed to not have to. Take care and stay safe!

this year i have made 2 little soap savers and 1 crochet Link to the Past hat for a friend in Red Heart Panther Pink and she LOVES IT. I didn't have enough yarn left to do the front loop lumps but it still looks great. Right now I am working on a giant yoshi egg with this green and white peaches and cream giant yarn cone ive had for years.

Mommies have to take care of themselves, so they can be there for their families! You look so beautiful and happy at the end of the video. Isn't it funny, we used to wish for just a few days at home, to not talk with anyone, just to do what we wanted, and then the quarantine hit and we got what we wished for, but we forgot to say how many days.. So glad you have professional help for your son, he will continue to make amazing strides, and you will be able to have some peace of mind. Take care and know you are loved by a great community of people, brought together by a little hooking. 😘

as an slp myself, please remember, development is never permanent at this age! Your son is learning and you are not a bad mom nor did you miss anything by having to ask for extra help. No one can do it all or be all. Just love on him and be there supporting him. Be willing to give yourself grace as you have to cope with so, so many other issues most mommas dont!!

Things will work out. My grandson is Autistic and we did behavioral therapy and speech and language with sign language and as he got older they used pictures for language. He also needed the sensory therapy. But at age 5 he started talking like he talked his whole life.

Welcome back!! Take your time. Sign language is really helpful when you have a young one. I used to sign to my son it helped a lot knowing we could communicate.
