The steel coils weigh in close to 20-25 tons each. That’s appropriate since the heavier ones can be 30+tons. On trucks they overload by 15+ tons with tires burning hot! Woo!
Hilarious - 09:05 Jawtooth says, "I can hear this thing bangin' all the way down the line" while simultaneously framing a hopper with "DO NOT HUMP" on its side. Too perfect.
Kinda hard to know how to dress for this video, Señor Jaws. First it's sunny and warm at Take Two. Then, I had to put on a hooded sweatshirt for the 3 train bottleneck and 1st not moving too fast train.. got a little chilly here even with the sunshine. Hamilton sure is full of weather surprises. I bet Mr. Duck and Mr. Horse were glad to see this video end with you and Chessie goin' back to the house. The corn was even making me hungry. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Loved this video thanks for sharing. Love your channel. Been watching for 2 months. Congrats on many subscribers including myself. Thanks for all you do and traveling many miles!
A nice little race - the first train got a stop order, so it wasn't a contest - LOL! Odd how the defect detector doesn't count axles on track 2. Nonetheless, 3 very cool trains :)
Yes we call them steel coils in the UK too, great videos as usual 👍. The first one was awesome, stacker overtaking the mixed freight train, thanks from me again in England UK.
Adding in the crossings downtown this area gets blocked out too I think there should be Junctions like NoGo and SloMo. DJ Joseph car trying to get home for the holidays as their HQ is in Cincinnati now a division of Nucor Steel and they may very well have the largest Fleet of gondolas and old hoppers in the country. They haul both scrap for themselves and least numerous cars to other firms. As the local is going out of town to serve the customers they should stop and grab the last four cars off the inbound freight before they get lost in the yard. Potatoes in all sizes and flavors can't be missing Christmas dinner!
Great video JT to be at the right place at the right time! Thought it was going to be a 2 for 1 that ended up being a 3 for 1! The 1st and 2nd trains were definitely MASSIVE! Thanks again JT for another great video! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware.
I think what they were saying on the radio is the yard master at queens gate yard says the yard a mess conductor was asking how should we enter and they need to check becasue of how the yard might not have room for all the cars is my take off that radio, its scheduled it is however sometimes still the yard is messed up they have to make room.
Three trains and you didn't have to go far to get them, talk about being at the right place at the right time !! 👍 I have to go now, I'm very busy, off to watch another Jawtooth video !! 🤣 Awesome VID... keep 'em coming !! 👍👍👍
I am glad to see steel coils being shipped buy train and not buy semi trucks, I live in ny near Buffalo several years ago some steel coils rolled off several people passed away
R McLeod wrote a book in 1968, "History of the Wisconsin and Michigan Railway" - Company shingle mill at Wagner kept a special train busy supplying pulp...

I've got 2 dogs. One will bark when she hears Jesse and the ducks. She would love to visit your yard.. my other dog doesn't pay attention to the phone.
Of the first two trains- the slow one that stopped twice had 133 cars. The fast train had 134 cars and sections of cars. That local had 12 cars. The GP38-2 on that train was cool. Our NJ Transit locomotives are GP40PH-2 and GP40PH-2B. I still have yet to upload my videos of that train. I have about 6 of them or more.
1st - what do I get as a prize for being first almost all week? A shout out? Great video as always Sir JT! Always look forward to watching them. Cheers from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Happy railfanning Brian! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Nice video and work as always! Many of your trains I see wind up on the A-Line to Charleston SC and points south
Congratulations on 200K subs Jawtooth. On a truck you’ve got your 80,000 gross wt. Usually you’re using a 3 axle tractor pulling a 53’ semi. You’re tare wt probably 27,500-34,500. That leaves about 45,500-52,500 approx. haul weight (net wt). Of course 1 ton = 2000 lbs. (22+ to 26+). Sorry my answer was so lengthy. Hey I really enjoyed this video. Lots of trains. Cool video. Great channel!❤️👍🎄Here’s wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
Jaw Tooth isn't like other rail fans that post videos where they aren't fans of good graffiti. He actually likes well done graffiti. Keep the good videos coming.
Each one of those coils ways between 45,000 and 55,000 a piece. They are usually a quarter inch or more thick. So you figure those open cars way out somewhere around 240,000 pounds. The covered coil cars probably way closer toward 275,000 lb.
ok JT according to a source who works at North Star Bluescope Steel plant which is a leading supplier in the steel industry located in nw ohio. steel coil rolls can be anywhere from 5 to 25 tons per roll depending on the size of the roll and its make up composition. rolls can exceed 25+ tons and these are called custom size orders or special rolls. most all of the rolls shipped via by rail is to large for big rigs to haul by law on the roads. in the case a over sized roll needs to go from rail to the intended location and cannot be delivered directly from the rail to the destination then special permits and special big rigs are used. and must always be accompanied by a over sized flagger for the big rigs. he would add that most of the steel coil rolls you see on the highway pulled by semi's are the 5 to 10 ton type.
Wow!..busy rails! Great video JT!

Some are saying up to 70,000 pounds for steel coils... there is a formula to calculate the weight... thickness etc.
The length of those trains was insane!
GOOD LIVE ACTION VERY GOOD INDEED THANK YOU JT FOR YOUR TIME AND EFFORT JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA.

Wow what a catch
Three 🚂🚃
When that train began moving, I was thinking that would have been great to have the radar on it.
The steel coil cars remind me of butter trays with lids! They must be very heavy--the wheel noise is louder.
Hello Daniel how are you doing,
where are you from?
Awesome, nice fast intermodel. I hope nobody in the cars was going to a wedding!
Nice

Thanks! You too!
The wheels on the heavy train sounded like they were crying from the weight .
I think some of the bigger steel coils are around 60,000 Lbs or 25 tons give or take.
Jaw tooth what great opening and loved it ❤ 😊
Great 👍 trio of trains !
Thank you very much!
Steel coils average 7 to 15 tons with up to 30 tons possible.
Great train footage
Nice Catches

david joeseph company huge multi national scrap metal
The coils can weigh anywhere between 20,000 and 40,000 pounds
be interesting to know how many pounds per square inch pressure on them couplers from a dead pull with a large axle train like that
Massive action packed video, thanks!
27.2 I HEARD TRACK 2!
1st - what do I get as a prize for being first almost all week? A shout out? Great video as always Sir JT! Always look forward to watching them. Cheers from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦

Cool video, thanks JT 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video JT!!!
Thanks!
@@JawTooth You're welcome!!
I heard between 7 and 15 tons. Thats 14 thousand and 30 thousand pounds. That is why you only 2 on a truck flatbed.
Happy railfanning Brian! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Nice video and work as always! Many of your trains I see wind up on the A-Line to Charleston SC and points south

how is this defect system works? is this a device standing next to a track or is it sitting in the rails somewhere near this service station building?

Great video Jaw Tooth. Question Did that other train go by?
What happened to the Little Engine that could.
