15 of the best minutes of my life were spent in the beer line back in the early 90's at The Capital Theatre in Flint, MI. It was an Overkill show and Bobby Blitz was just standing there patiently waiting to buy a bunch of beers. For some reason, nobody recognized him and we walked up and introduced ourselves. Spent 15 minutes shooting the shit with him and just chilling. Finished the conversation by wishing me good luck with my band (he remembered us all by name) and I said, "good luck with your band too". He just laughed and walked away.
Also, I forgot. They talk about the big four=Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer. ALL GREAT BANDS I have seen them all live. I have a pick from Anthrax's bass player Frank Bello from the 1991 Clash of the Titans tour Mears Michigan at Val Du Lakes. What a show!!! I had Anthrax's cassette where the guy got punched in the face with a leather and stud thing around his hand. So cool. Slayer are my second favorite band of all time! Megadeth was on the Rust in Peace tour. my favorite album of theirs. My point is that Overkill belongs in the same group. They are great. I know there is a lot of bad blood and rivalry with a few of these bands, but that should not have anything to do with Overkill who are my third favorite band of all time. Overkill is still making great music and have always played the music they created no matter what. Jersey Crew! I first saw Metallica at Cobo Hall in Detroit on the Master of Puppets tour. It was a great show! When these bands first came out, everything was word of mouth, trading tapes usually with no information written on them about the song names or the bands. Also some magazines. there was a large amount of resistance to metal and thrash. Radio stations that played these bands were bankrupt through lawyers representing anti metal groups thru filing frivolous motions that the station had to spend their money on lawyers to defend themselves. Then their licenses were pulled. Also radio stations make their profits from commercials and many companies pulled their commercials because of pressure from these groups. I will not even begin on the P.M.R.C. Listen to Anthrax's Bee Sides= Starting up a posse. They NAILED it. Also many other bands have written songs dedicated to these quasi-Fascist groups. All these idiots accomplished was to promote metal and thrash bands and get a little sticker on the albums warning parents about explicit lyrics.
