@RUclips User #1 Well for one, the Grievers themselves are described as more slug-like with bulbous blubbery bodies and they produce machine-like noises and have very robotic behavior In the book the scene begins with Thomas looking around the corner and instead of seeing one griever he sees at least 15. Alby sacrifices himself but as the Gladers have been under the assumption that the grievers can only kill one person each day, but this is proven wrong when they are surrounded on all sides by even more grievers. So they charge into the grievers and battle them, in order to get Teresa and Thomas through since they are the ones that know the code. They then jump down the griever hole which is essentially described as a bottomless-looking pit and access the computer: Teresa, Chuck, and Thomas are the ones that go down. Thomas actually kills a griever before two more come down and the computer is turned on and the code is inputted and instead of being crushed by the maze like in the movie, in the book the grievers all turn off like robots, instantly. And most of the boys die before they all escape the maze. And once again, the book describes the scene as being bloody and deadly as the grievers deploy their saws and other tools as weapons. Once again, I like the movie but the book is always better
My sister red the first three books, and she interpreted the Grievers as some kind of oxes or cows, but then she saw the movie and told me that Grievers are actually lovecraftian biomechanical scorpions.

when i read the books i always thought of them as a baguette shaped slimy freak, with randomly placed legs and arms and other assorted limbs. i pictured them without any teeth (or face, really) and had spikes all over that would pop in and out for no reason. all the metal stuff would be rusty and slimy. they would move towards you in some kind of weird spidery way with their mismatched metal limbs and, as the book described, roll towards you for no reason. basically i imagined them as fleshy slimy slug things that moved around erratically and insanely, and would just scream and moan like it was suffering and doing so without a mouth. after watching this clip i very much preferred the way the original book describes it. making it look anything like an actual lifeform (in this case, a slightly creepy scorpion) just removes all the terror and makes it look sick as hell.
