- WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?! Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this RUclips name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon!

Actually, Hyunjin has been nicknamed 'Prince' before because of how beautiful he is, but he's never has liked people only seeing him for his looks and not his talents. That's why you seen him start out as a prince, all proper and perfect with his hair up very neatly. But as he dances, he begins to unravel all of those perceptions and just be Hyunjin.

I like that the longer the performance goes on, the more dishevelled and wild his dance gets, at one point becoming kind of animalistic before coming back to more controlled movements and expression, only to be 'trapped' again by the end (the hand around his neck is seen at the very beginning and very end)
It is actually about how people mostly see him for his looks and call him prince because of that, he doesn’t like people only recognising him only for his looks, he wants people to recognise him for his dance as well, so it is slowly unraveling from looking good so you pay attention to his dance

i think that the dark and mysterious concept of a prince who turned into a beast when dancing says a lot about how he feels, we should appreciate him for his effort, skills and passion, for being talented tho, not only for his looks, i loved your reaction! :)

Hyunjin has always been an amazing dancer, facial expressions & movements always on point, but this performance is another level. Just the raw passion he exhibited throughout takes your breath away.

This video blew up so much, that the artist of the song got an entire new fanbase and his song got so much attention, that he even dropped a fandom-name and merch. I love it.
I think I played it more than 30 times now, and watched all reactors that i can see on youtube.. i'm now obsessed period.
I love how he always picks out the subtle instrumentation in a song and puts emphasis on it with the choreo. It's like you hear the song differently due to his movements.

also, i like that the lighting was chosen to reflect the theme of playing with fire. when Hyunjin moves away from the mirror the lighting is orange, like fire, then it become black and white, like ash, and then orange again, and then blue that could also be fire.

Lol I did the same thing when I first watched it! My jaw dropped & I seriously felt the impact when he stared at his reflection & hard popped so suddenly. There’s so much detail & depth to this performance and I like how you can interpret it in so many different ways. It was 100% pure art. I’m so in love with the way the music fades in and out into the sound of crackling fire, and how it still matches the way he flows without the music. His fluidity, isolations and body control are insane. Because you can feel and see his embodiment of the idea of playing with fire. Especially when he spreads himself on the ground in black/white filter and later drops back into color but with a more orange/foggy lighting. Kind of like when fire spreads quietly and fast but lights everything up as it fills up every space. You know what I mean? Then I felt like his body movements like the fluid/bouncy-like movements reminded me of how a flame flows and bounces. Idk if I’m making any sense lol but anyway,
his imagery & storytelling is always so captivating! He doesn’t allow you to look away from him, not even for a second. He’s just way too powerful. Im so happy our King is back 👑

Don’t apologize for your honest and natural reactions. They were great. In sync with mine. I’m an Ex-dancer. The first time I watched Hyunjin’s “Play With Fire” Dance Cover, I was screaming, “OMG! OMGl Gotta back it up. Watch that part again.” I did that, at least 10 times before I watched from beginning to end non-stop. I was hot and heart pounding. His popping and lyrical flow, dance style. . . Poetry. His expressive interpretation is so on point. Scary. “Villainous”, as you said.

People always go 'the talent 😍', but Hyunjin got everything from hard work. So it's all skill and I think that's so very impressive
I think it says something that we hardly see his face in this
It's speculated that he dances out his own story starting around the mama 2020 performance up to a short time before his return.
I noticed that the throwing of the cape is very akin to what he did at the end of the Victory Song performance
interesting of you to say villian because many have interpreted this video as the story of the prince from beauty and the beast and what would have happened if belle hadn't arrived at the castle
it's because his outfit gets rowdier/ uneat (er..?) and the rose kinda ties it all together with the petals falling off and stuff also we can see from his facial expressions that he slowly goes crazy/monster-like as the video progresses.....

Hyunjin is an amazingly complex performer. He dances from head to toe. He grabbed attention from the beginning and never let go. I love how he plays with soft and hard. He doesn't miss a beat. And on top of it all his facial expressions are on point.

HYUNJIN is one idol who really knows how to dance using nor just technique but with his own style. He dances sensually and really shows how he feels with every dance he does. This is what dance means - an expression of one's self and feelings. Kudos to this guy for showing his detractors that he is not only a beautiful face but he has the talent that goes with the face.

He is good. This choreography showcases a different style. Not Kpoppy but rather westernish/international vibes. It feels so different.
