oh man, I have a deep pan with a sender in it, I'm using a auto meter gage and I confirned the fluid temp with a lazer thermometer, it don't go over 150 degrees, plus there is no foaming in the fluid
Your video is the best I bought an old TH400 out of a wrecked pickup truck been sitting for 20 years and I was able to get the pump off just like you did with a rubber mallet no slide hammer needed a few wacks on the pump shaft and just pulled it out with my hand. This is my first rebuild after 30 years of rebuilding engines I always thought auto transmissions were too complicated but after watching your video not really that difficult I find it easier then an engine rebuild.
that's what I thought and its an AOD out of a '93 f150 not the AODE someone suggested applying air to check it but I don't know how to do that. do you, thanks in advance
I have a '79 4WD Chevy TH 400/GW 350. What is the difference (if any) between the tear down and rebuild process of a 2WD trans versus a 4WD trans? I will be rebuilding mine soon and would rather just do it right the first time.
Hey Brian its Jason again I have a question. in an AOD I lost reverse and rebuilt it checked the sun gear "was still good" put it back in and still no reverse only thing I reused was the torque converter,NEW clutches, steels, seals O-rings , check balls , and cleaned valve body. this is my 5th trans rebuild "on different trucks" will the converter affect rev not working? Thanks in advance
Great Video! Very Informative Awesome Audio and Camera Work! Thank You For Including Bolt Totals & Head Sizes As Well! Impressive! Knowledge is Power! Knowing is Doing!
gotta 69 biglock Nova with a 400 ... ( Can be seen on my channel ) when the trans hits 150 degrees it pees throught the vent.. I shut it off for 30 seconds and start it up and drive it for 5 mins and it pees again, someone told me crossbleed through the front pump.. .. so I ordered a TCI pump... trans is fresh 1 year on rebuild and only 5 passes on it... whats your opinion?
I know this is an old video but I have a th400 with an adapter plate to a Dana 20 transfer case should transmission fluid flow within the adapter (or tail housing) or is there an internal seal that prevents transmission fluid from reaching the tail housing, I suffered a catastrophic leak in the adapter plate but the leak is coming from what looks like a perfectly round bore into the bottom of the adapter,(vent??) so is there simply a shaft seal on the end of the tail housing or a seal further into the transmission that could have failed allowing fluid to flow into the adapter?
Great videos
thanks bud

Thank You very much.
Yes, that answers my question. I have a 9" shaft and all the transmission I see have short shafts. Thank you.
Excellent instructional video, very nice job Mr. Swayne. Thank you for taking the time to produce it and post it on here, much appreciated!
+Bryan McGauhey Your very welcome. Thank You

Usually the forward drum is missing 2 springs. The direct is usually full.
Thanks

Dumb Question! Can I put a 9" tail shaft off my old turbo 400 onto another one I buy if it has a short tail shaft?
hi, in taking the direct drum apart, it looked as if there were a couple of springs missing, is this normal , thanks

No.Torque would affect all gears. What trans are u working on.Find out what applies when reverse applied.Usually rev. band & 1 clutch.
AND What is THE BEST torque converter for my 4WD 400?
Great Video! Very Informative

I don't understand the question. There are 3 different ones.U can interchange the shafts.
The Darkness playing.. ftw!
