Mike, addiction stinks, I'm in recovery but relapsed the other day when I found out I had stage 4 breast cancer and that my life is going to be short,a lot on my shoulders.. My mother offered to because she was afraid I’d do it with people who weren’t safe and she thought she’d keep me safe. But the offer made me not interested. Thankfully I’ve never done drugs. But my poor mom died.

Excellent Interview. It's obvious that Mike is a good human. He doesn't blame anyone else or have a victim mentality. He's honest, self-aware, empathetic, and real. We are all rooting for his recovery!
I worry when people praise taking responsibility when there are clearly others to blame. I don't think the mindset of ignoring extenuating circumstances helps. In Mike's case for example, not having a victim mentality hasn't stopped him being out on the streets, vulnerable to drugs, freezing temperatures and violence. If taking responsibility was the answer and people didn't need help there'd be no-one one out on the streets in the first place.
Mike you are a handsome guy, very articulate and presentable, you don't look like you're without a home. You need to pray to get out of this, it's a spiritual battle, it's too strong for the flesh alone to resist. Wishing you a better life away from the devil's snare. God bless you Mike

First of all, that voice is like butter! If the opportunity ever arises you should do voice work… radio, tv, etc. In the meantime you take care of yourself, Mike. You’re very loved by this community already.
I can definitely see him doing that! There’s a story about a homeless man with addiction who became an overnight success in narrating, voice overs, etc, Ted Williams. He’s also a good looking guy, and has hosted shows, too. Mike has got both the face and the voice, as well. With his gift of the gab from the streets, he’s a triple threat!
On YT, look up, “The Man With the Golden Voice: I Went from Homeless to Hollywood,” etc. I know it’s not easy to find opportunities with a record, and on the streets. I have been there. I’ve finally found a purpose in life doing what I have always done (the BETTER things I’ve always done), helping people survive and get where they want to be. Poverty, oppression and addiction are the biggest killers of dreams. It hurts to hang onto hope, when there seems to be none, and believe in yourself when no one believes in or invests in you. A positive vision of, and for, ourselves is the most important thing we have, when it’s all we’ve got. Mike, whatever your dream is, I believe in you! As you get healthier, keep pursuing it, no matter what anyone says, one little thing at a time. I didn’t know what I wanted to be until I got off dope, but once I did, I just started doing it. Your experience is a powerful guide. It’s a strength. Never be ashamed of it!

As someone who has been chronically rejected from my family...all I can say is that this young man seems so real and kind and decent...I would rather spend an afternoon with him than any of my snooty "successful" family members.

Mal, it’s amazing how you humanize the issues of addiction, poverty, oppression, crime, homelessness, etc. Your love, respect for, and ability to connect with people on the streets allows others to finally get to know them as whole people. If they don’t know somebody, it’s hard for many to look past the drugs, the dysfunction, or dirty clothes and see a valuable, vulnerable human being with feelings, dreams, and sorrows, like everyone else. I know you have changed a lot of hearts and minds. Mike, thank you for joining in Mal’s mission, by sharing yourself in this interview. Mike, I don't know what moved you to do this interview, but I'm enormously grateful to you for letting me know your story. You know, now I'm a little more fucked up than before, because knowing this really hurts me, since I feel very identified with you and it annoys me to know that the fucking world outside Kensington is only a more sophisticated form of the Hell and has nothing to offer us but a false progress that subdues and sedates us. I mean: I can't tell you "Come on, man, life is wonderful out here, heaven awaits you on earth". No. This sucks. It really does. But, man, we must get the hell out of this shit if only out of pride. We deserve it. If that moment when you see your father again and can tell him with dignity that you are clean comes, the fucking Devil will have lost a battle. Let's give it a try, brother. Hi Mike hope this finds you doing better. Life is hard as it is but doing drugs makes it a lot worse. I wasted 28 years on drugs hate to see anyone else waste their life. I've been clean 30 years being clean I've been able to enjoy my grandchildren and great grands. Your son needs you. I pray you get the chance to see and be in his life. There's nothing like it. Hi Mike. Im sorry for the struggles in your life. People can be very cruel. The world can be cruel. I am hoping you have made it to detox and have found a better way. You seem to be a very likeable human being. Being clean for three years is an awesome feat. Just put it on repeat. You can do it, you already have. Its hard to get our esteem back before and after addiction. You still have a glimmer in your eyes. Believe in yourself. Faith keeps hope alive. Its been a year...im going to look for a follow up on you. I hope you got to jefferson to detox and are living a life more deserving than this one. No matter what youre doing...know that you are thought about and loved. Sometimes its hard to love ourselves, but know there are many of us doing it for you. Wake up everyday and before you even think about anything put that orange piece of paper under your tongue, go to meetings and be around people that want their life back..

I raised 3 sons. I gave them advice and watched over them. I always worried about them getting into hard drugs. They are all adults now and fine, no addicts. But I've seen parents who have done drugs let the kids drink alcohol. Just like this, gentlemen always end in disastrous life. I tend to blame parents 100% your not your kids friend. Your there caretaker meant to give them everything to succeed. Doing any kind of dope is wrong wrong. Now there adults I drink a beer and pass a legal doobie with them and we enjoy each other's company. Thats our limit. Enjoy your buzz in moderation. Sober up and be productive. Party is not, and everyday thing.

What a great looking guy! I was hooked on heroin for about 8 years and went into a faith based treatment home and been clean ever since it’s been about 8years if he is interested in getting out and moving to Washington where it’s located hit me up and I can help arrange it! Whenever he is ready! He has a purpose in this life and I know with some help he can succeed!
