      Makes me wonder why there's so damn many varieties of them.

      Ya know, it's when they iron forge that concept that I end up making Lolth secretly good in a home game.

      @Ekigane 6 лет назад +6

      they sorta do give you that out, I mean much 5e material does make Lolth look bad, but it was admitted that she did try to take care of the elves when their father god was just ignoring them. maybe she had ulterior motives, but it was the threat of being kicked out of their heaven that made most elves back out from Lolth's following, and they still were kicked out anyway, based on elf lore talked about in these videos anyway.

      @imlaughing2death because before they fell from grace, their form was mutable.

    The fact that Dwarves were literally created is such a cool concept to me. Like, literally forged by a deity. That arrogant streak is one of my favourite RP aspects to play up in D&D.

      I LOVE when a new players says he wants to know more about the dwarves before choosing. My eyes light and start by this fact and they always fall

      To me this has always been the "sweetest" part of the Silmarilion. Therein Aule was instructed by Eru aka Iluvatar to not create beings himself, but Aule was the Vala of reasoning, science and knowledge, and he wanted to have someone he could teach all he knew, and because of this acted against his own creator's command, created the Dwarfs anyway and thought them what he knew as he had wished. When Eru found out what Aule had done he was angry and told Aule that there was a reason why he had forbidden him to create beings. The reason was that Aule wasn't able to give the beings he had created souls and thus, whenever he turned his attention away from the Dwarfs they ceased having thoughts, their minds were only present for as long as Aule actively focused on the Dwarfs having minds. Aule realized then that he had made a mistake. Eru then ordered Aule to destroy his creations and Aule tried, but he couldn't bring himself to destroy the Dwarfs as they pleaded him to let them live. Aule was desperate and in sorrow, and as Eru saw this he felt compassion for both Aule and the Dwarfs and gifted the Dwarfs - who were not of his creation - with souls so that Aule had not to destroy them. I think it's sweet, because the creator of this world, and to that point everything in it, allowed something to exist and live in it that had not been created by him.

      Look into 'Individual Dharma'

    • @DabIMON
      @DabIMON 6 лет назад

      More or less, yeah.
      The reason I asked you to look into it yourself, is that I frankly don't feel qualified to give a massive lecture on this, since I'm not Hindu myself.
      The similarity is in how the duties you have are different for each individual, and depends who you are in life. For example, if you are a son, a brother, and a father, there is a dharma associated with each of those roles. The same thing goes for occupations, a soldier, a scholar, a crafter, a leader, etc. would have very different duties within the cosmic order, and even though these are typically seen as secular occupations, your duties are tied to the religion.
      This is basically how it works in dwarven society as well, you serve your gods, and the cosmic order of the multiverse by fulfilling the duties that come with your occupation.
      Once again, I'm not really qualified to speak too much on this, if you are interested, I suggest contacting someone who knows more about this stuff than I do.

      I guess they are a mix of a lot of different things. Dwarves originate from Norse mythology, which itself was heavily influenced by other belief systems in Europe at that time, although their culture was never really elaborated on by the ancient Norsemen. The view most of us have of dwarves nowadays is based on Tolkien's work, and he specifically said he was inspired by Jewish people, and even based their language on an ancient Hebrew dialect (and yes, this is pretty uncomfortable to think about when you consider that dwarves are known for being short, hairy, and greedy, which is probably why modern fantasy authors try to downplay that connection). Today dwarves in fiction seem to be inspired mostly by ancient Scandinavian and Nordic culture, and on top of all that, they usually speak with Scottish accents... Not sure why...
      So yeah, it's probably safe to say they have been inspired by numerous different sources, which is why they are as cool and interesting as they are today.

    Typical surface dweller talk; dwarves don't have vast empires because they don't run around on open plains..? What about the mines, tunnels, underground corridors, and mountain passes that extend for untold miles through land connecting great Dwarvish empires and the mightiest mountain holds? Those kingdoms conquered and held from unimaginable denizens from the bowels of darkness beneath the earth?! No ambition, pride in smaller things?!! Bah! Elf talk!

      hitmansp33d Damn straight! Dwarven treasure vaults are the envy of man, elf, beast, even the most ancient of Dragons. Wars have been fought over them, Empires come and gone before them. Fates of the multiverse forever swayed by the might and metal of Dwarven toil! Mountain King Holds are not meager Hobbit holes with modest sets of fine polished cutlery for Holiday feasts these are ancient and magnificient works of structural art constantly assailed by all manner of beast and underdark minion! Orcs, Goblins, Drow, Demons, transplanar abominations of all sorts crash as breaking waves on the shores of dwarven steel deep below as the sun gently breaks on the faces of folk who walk atop the earth singing quaint little songs with lutes on leasurly afternoons barely recalling the glorious deeds of those who know true hardship. Yet Dwarfkind endures! And the darkness is held at bay...

    I find the relationship between hobgoblins and dwaves to be funny, dwarves hate goblinoids yet hobgoblins see dwarves as a worthy opponent, they see a fort as a challenge to take.

    Considering how family and Clan oriented dwarves are, I guess that there are no dwarven MGTOW. But I do think that would probably be an interesting character to play. A dwarf who decides that he wants to shun family life in favor of doing his own thing. Could be interesting.

      I'm a dwarven cleric main, so calm down. That's just exactly why I hoped for this video to give me some more information about the dwarves, like those 100 elf videos did for elves.
