    She doesn’t believe the accused had malicious intent? Seriously? I am in shock at such a minimal sentence. Unbelievable!

    • @cchris874
      @cchris874 2 года назад

      I think given her age and her own mental disorders and drug use, we should not presume that she had complete control over her decisions, especially if we make the assumption that HE could not possibly have control over HIS decisions. A double standard is a reasonable question here. So yes, this woman did an evil thing. But I fear in this case the drive to punish her is based on personal anger rather than on a sound theory of manslaughter.

    • @christar9527
      @christar9527 2 года назад +7

      I don’t know about the theory of man slaughter but I think she played a huge role in the young man’s death and should have spent more time behind bars. Her type never gets better, only gets worse!

    • @cchris874
      @cchris874 2 года назад +3

      Maybe so. But the way I see it, this trial violated the reasonable doubt principle. It assumes that it's crazy or far-fetched to suggest a suicidally depressed person might still be capable of free will, in which case Carter's words would have been no different than anyone else putting pressure on someone else to do a certain thing. So should we declare all suicidally depressed people as incompetent to make their own decisions? Should we assume they have no free ill at all? I don't know the answers to these questions. Just putting the question out there.

    20:09 How can there NOT be malicious intent? She knew he was committing suicide, did not alert the authorities or do anything to provide aid, instead she badgered him to get back into the car and continue his, ultimately successful, suicide. HOW is that not malicious intent?!
    To me, with her having similar mental health issues, it seems like she was experiencing this by proxy but without the ultimate consequences.
    Those videos he made, seemed like a young man with mental issues but with a hopeful outlook on his life, she destroyed that, dragging him down into a spiral that lead to his death, the sentence is woefully inadequate, she should've gotten AT LEAST 10 yrs.

    Conrad Roy struggled with depression as an adolescent male. That is far from rare. To feel some love and support, even if someone in your life does not understand would never tell you to just do it - you talk about it but you don't do it - Hands up all teenagers who have felt suicidal. And then became an adult. And may even have some depression through our lives but we realise we alone can make that decision. To have a cheerleader on the side for your own suicide - well - if anything it would possibly make me more inclined only because your friend is a magnified version of society at large.

I did my own research and went over the evidence on top of watching the documentary and I'm 100% with you. She was desperate to get attention and what better way to get attention than if your bf dies? So she yelled at him to get back in that truck...and in that moment he wanted to back out and looked to her to tell him he mattered...and she told him to get back in and take his life. No child deserves this treatment, and if this case should have taught anyone anything it's that children are already suffering. Why wish more suffering on them just to hurt the parent? It's like divorced or separated parents who use their children against each other. Children aren't weapons. They aren't pawns. They don't deserve to suffer any horrible fate, even if it's to teach their parents "how it feels"...

But then again this is similar to those who get charged for assisting suicide in jurisdictions where suicide is illegal. All in all a very sad case. Conrad obviously did not get the help he needed nor did Michelle. She was battling her own demons and may have actually thought that she was doing Conrad a favour by helping him escape the prison he felt trapped in.
