That's why I've got the rule against using or ranking players until after they retire lol. Hopefully it works out and he's a great DE.
@krl97a I've said it for a few years! It's a mistake to use Parsons as a defensive end. He's a brilliant linebacker. Although he did play defensive end in highschool. Obviously, his college coach saw something enough to change his position. He's not made for defensive end. Being a defensive end is more than just rushing the quarterback. If he's not impactful against the run. Or gets weighed down by the end of the third quarter to where he's not rushing the quarterback effectively that's an issue.
@thelogicalcowboy Agreed! Setting the edge, stopping the run, and physically holding up all year to peak in the playoffs are going to be at least as important as pass rushing if he's a full time DE.

During the late 70s and into the late 80s the four games that the other NFC East teams hated to play were the two against the Cowboys and the two against the Giants. The Cowboys because of Randy White along with the others and the Giants because of L.T. It got the reputation for being the toughest division in the NFL for a reason.
Good job. Can't believe "you" left out Eugene Lickhart. Lol. Personally, I would have the Big Cat alongside Lily as my interior force. It's hard to decide between Too Tall and Haley, but I'd probably start Too Tall. But Haley's football IQ is off the charts. And once again Iloudly declare that Hollywood Henderson is the best linebacker in the history of football.
Henderson had it all going. I would had loved to had him with Dallas at least through 1983. Perhaps his defensive play would have brought another championship during those three NFC championship loses in 80, 81 and 82. I really wish in SB X on that opening kickoff reverse he had gone the distance.
Sean Lee doesn't get enough love. From his days at Penn State and his time with the Cowboys, he has done some amazing performances! Randy White and Bob Lily is a scary combo inside. Just curious, how do you think Bill Bates would do in this defense. Great video bro!
@user-cn9ki9tu2u Bates would be a monster. If I wanted to switch it up and play the pass like on third down. I could always take out Lee and put Bates in as a 40-middle linebacker and use Hollywood alongside bates. Bates would be special. Did you see the first video I made on this? If you haven't i explained my defensive concept in a little more detail. Appreciate you bro.
@@thelogicalcowboy Yes I did! To be honest I thought you would put Bates as one of the safeties because you could use him to switch between 4-2-5 and 4-3 and possibly a 4-4
with respect to Harvey Martin, the term was "MART-IN-IZED", whenever he had a vicious sack. players don't seem to have a play name moniker like that anymore.
Take a look at Dave Wanstedts defense. Every player was a top name . I can’t even remember all of them. The whole team was awsome. Star players on all three sides of the ball. Then we lost our coach .
No way to do any better on that list. The Manster and Lilly with Martin and Jones that front 4 alone stuffs the run and makes life horrible for any passing team. Through in Hollywood and Sean Lee who if he could've stayed healthy would be in the Hall of Fame no doubt.
I couldn’t agree more then this selection ( you have to be my age ) there’s no way you didn’t see these guys play like I did Thomas Henderson was my favorite Defensive player on the Cowboys
@@thelogicalcowboy OMG man it’s like you were there. I feel bad for you newer kids Dallas was so great in the 70s that when I fell in love with them. Man you could have fooled me bro you’re right on them
Harvey Martin did have a better career than Ware. Martin was a game changer. Ware had a lot of 2nd down sacks not as many 3rd down or money down sacks. I would take Martin any day over Ware.
Maybe the defense will actually play like these former players and not get torched like the current defense was against the Saints. Man that was embarrassing.
Unfortunately, my friend, as a corporate operations efficiency specialist for over 30 years, the rot begins at the head. This club MUST address the GM position. This is the ONLY catalyst for the deficiencies in the post season. And frankly, after earning the most valuable professional sports franchise in human history, the front office is okay with that. Regardless, of what the teams record shows. 😢
I’m watching this Dallas / Giants game in total disgust. You really need to do a video regarding the issue with penalties the cowboys have had for 25+ years now.
I understand your argument for Sean Lee but he could not stay healthy, so I would have went with Howely or Jordan. Harvey Martin and Ed Too Tall Jones should be in the Ring of Honor and possibly the Hall of Fame, too bad for them so many Cowboy greats are in leaving them out.
Here is some food for thought. What would have happened if in the 1975 draft if the Baltimore Colts not traded their number one pick to the Atlanta Falcons? The Colts would have taken Randy White and the Cowboys would have taken Walter Payton. Who then would Dallas have taken in the 1977 draft instead of Tony Dorsett?
@michaell874 Now that's something to talk about? How would Peyton have done in the Landry system? Would his under-the-radar personality last in a big town like Dallas? If not, would that affect the way he played? Dorsett's personality fit right in. Good questions.
If i recall right I believe D Ware was a linebacker even though he played on the front four sometimes..idhave to give him the nod over Sean Lee who didnt get to play all that much
@edsapp6678 Yeah he was an outside linebacker. But not your traditional outside linebacker. Ware was a 34 outside backer in Parcell's scheme. His job was to rush the quarterback.
Can’t argue with this defense. White and Lilly both played RDT but I’m sure they could have adjusted. Probably shift Lilly to LDT. Interesting bit of trivia for you Guess where Lilly went to high school? Pendleton, Oregon. He moved from Texas his sophomore year and then went back to Texas fir college. Also Dallas’ first training camp was at Tiny Pacific college in Forest Grove, Oregon. I found that out reading Landry’s autobiography. Not the one in California that had a few NFL players. A lot of people forget how good Darrin Smith was. He was on the verge of Pro Bowl status before Jimmy left. Then he started holding out and left for Philly after 96. He didn’t do enough in Dallas to merit a spot on this list though. He should have stuck around. I liked him better than Coskley but he bounced around the league and positions and never realized his full potential. Another career limited by free agency.
@@joshuahendricks7701 Yep. I do remember Smith well. An athletic linebacker who fit well into Jimmy Johnson's scheme. I thought we missed him a lot after he left. Always thanks for that info. Keep em coming.
@MaddDogg316 Before our conversation, I made a top 5 Cowboys list a year or two back that got great feedback. So that was my ultimate reason. But when I saw what you did with your 53-man roster list that you showed me a few months back it inspired me to make this video. Your list was well thought out and in-depth. Probably more than ive ever seen in a 53 man roster. So I thought about it. What if I took all of the Cowboys legends and selected a group of players out of those legends that could've played in any era? Who would they be and what scheme would best fit their talent? That's when my journey began. Thanks for inspiring me, brother. If you have any more keep them coming. Lol.

Maybe a heads up before the games wud also help us understand. But you should be in the commentator's seat on TV. I subscribe. What do U think of the great money that Jerry Jones is giving to Prescott now? This reminds me of how Minnesota goofed in Dallas' favor when they gave away the store to get Herschel Walker. All that football currency that Dallas (Johnson) got, enabled Dallas to build their new team. But Minnesota methinks went down the tubes for this. So now, has Jerry Jones pulled a Minnesota-Herschel-Walker to put the nails into the Dallas coffin? Shud Jerry have spent his money on defensive players? Send your video on Johnson's defense vs the Bills to a network to get yourself a job, like the new John Madden. - IMHO

I don’t get this . If you cherry pick the best players of any teams defensive history and they can be historic. Pittsburgh Steelers all team , Baltimore Ravens and take the NY giants . with Lawrence Taylor and next best 10 giants I take that squad
@MarioMack-h3h The Giants do not have a better overall defense than the Cowboys! Lol. The Giant's all time corners and defensive backs are garbage!! Their pass rush outside of Strahan and Taylor is not on the Cowboys level. The Ravens have one all-time legend as a pass rusher in their history. They don't have the corners the Cowboys have. They have 2 legendary safeties. But only one (REED) played for them in their prime. Woodson (was still a good player) but was old when he got to Baltimore. During the late 70s and into the late 80s the four games that the other NFC East teams hated to play were the two against the Cowboys and the two against the Giants. The Cowboys because of Randy White along with the others and the Giants because of L.T. It got the reputation for being the toughest division in the NFL for a reason.
@@komradkolonel
It was brutal back then!
I had him in my Honorable mentions. Always appreciate you brother!
the second highlight you show of sean lee deserves more love i bet 90 percent of views then and here dont realize how magical and miracle that int is
Facts
Henderson had it all going. I would had loved to had him with Dallas at least through 1983. Perhaps his defensive play would have brought another championship during those three NFC championship loses in 80, 81 and 82. I really wish in SB X on that opening kickoff reverse he had gone the distance.
Great!

Sean Lee doesn't get enough love. From his days at Penn State and his time with the Cowboys, he has done some amazing performances! Randy White and Bob Lily is a scary combo inside. Just curious, how do you think Bill Bates would do in this defense. Great video bro!
@user-cn9ki9tu2u
Bates would be a monster.
To be honest I thought you would put Bates as one of the safeties because you could use him to switch between 4-2-5 and 4-3 and possibly a 4-4
@@user-cn9ki9tu2u
That's a good point!
I'm 54 years old and have been a COWBOYS fan all my life. #50 Sean Lee is my favorite Cowboys LB of after all time.
with respect to Harvey Martin, the term was "MART-IN-IZED", whenever he had a vicious sack. players don't seem to have a play name moniker like that anymore.

Hollywood Henderson was a beast

Harvey Martin once said that the only man he was ever scared of was COACH LANDRY....
Wow!
Take a look at Dave Wanstedts defense. Every player was a top name . I can’t even remember all of them. The whole team was awsome. Star players on all three sides of the ball. Then we lost our coach .
@@DavidBridge-u8d

No way to do any better on that list. The Manster and Lilly with Martin and Jones that front 4 alone stuffs the run and makes life horrible for any passing team. Through in Hollywood and Sean Lee who if he could've stayed healthy would be in the Hall of Fame no doubt.

Harvey Martin did have a better career than Ware. Martin was a game changer. Ware had a lot of 2nd down sacks not as many 3rd down or money down sacks. I would take Martin any day over Ware.

Appreciate you bro. Yeah Ware was special!!

It's sad!
I’m watching this Dallas / Giants game in total disgust. You really need to do a video regarding the issue with penalties the cowboys have had for 25+ years now.
It's sad!! I haven't seen a poorly coached team like this in a long time.
@@topJimmyP1984
I wouldn't be mad if you chose Jordan and Howley. Both are legends. Thanks for watching bro!
@michaell874
Now that's something to talk about? How would Peyton have done in the Landry system? Would his under-the-radar personality last in a big town like Dallas? If not, would that affect the way he played? Dorsett's personality fit right in. Good questions.
If i recall right I believe D Ware was a linebacker even though he played on the front four sometimes..idhave to give him the nod over Sean Lee who didnt get to play all that much
@edsapp6678
Yeah he was an outside linebacker.
Correction: it was his senior year he transferred to Oregon.
@@joshuahendricks7701
Yep. I do remember Smith well. An athletic linebacker who fit well into Jimmy Johnson's scheme. I thought we missed him a lot after he left. Always thanks for that info. Keep em coming.
Lee could have played and starred in Landrys defenses of the 70s

@Logical, did my 53 man roster come in handy for this? 😁 BTW, i made some minor tweaks to it. I can post it again if you want to see the changes.
@MaddDogg316
Before our conversation, I made a top 5 Cowboys list a year or two back that got great feedback. Lol.
@@thelogicalcowboy, that's incredible. I had no idea it had that much of an impact on you. I was just bored one day and decided on a whim to put that roster together. The NFL has changed, they would get thrown out of more games than they would finish. Not allowed to hit like that anymore.
the NFL is a sissy league today compared to then. Plus White, Martin, Jones etc., played all the defensive snaps and never came out of games unless they were hurt. Watch guys today dead tired after a couple series.
Can somebody explain why Harvey Martin is not in the Hall of Fame he is way way overdue
No.
Henderson was tremendous from tiny Langston College in Oklahoma , woulda been a Hall of Famer.., Harvey martin the smiling assassin was a tremendous pass rusher he played college ball with Dwight White from Steelers, Lilly the greatest ever there is a clip of Landry referring to him as the greatest player he ever coached... it's in the video of great moments in cowboys history ..ED Jones should be in the Hall of fame... The Manster I became friendly with him back in the mid 80's he's in the top 5 of all time with merlin olsen lilly joe green and alan page These cowboy defensive players today should stop making podcasts and start watching film of these guys they are weak and pathetic and were humiliated last week

Theological Cowboy? Hey, U R great. Common person cannot understand a game as you seem to. It wud B so great if after every strategic game each week, you presented the game w/ your theoretical, logical analysis so we cud understand what was going on. - IMHO

Great video… but not even a mention of DD Lewis…..great player…
@janetk2564
I left out a lot of great players in Cowboys history. Some I chose to leave out, others I forgot to add in, and there were some who I couldn't put in the video because the video was long enough. Lewis was a player who I forgot to add in until I finished the video. By that time it was too late. Always a pleasure my friend.

I don’t get this . If you cherry pick the best players of any teams defensive history and they can be historic. Pittsburgh Steelers all team , Baltimore Ravens and take the NY giants . with Lawrence Taylor and next best 10 giants I take that squad
@MarioMack-h3h
The Giants do not have a better overall defense than the Cowboys! The only team who can stand up to this squad is Pittsburgh.
