- Welcome to Ambon, just one of many of the Maluku islands in the far east of Indonesia. Today will conclude what has turned into a 3 part video. The first part of the day I ate sate Ambon at Senda's warung, then I went to Wainitu beach and met the friendly ladies that welcomed me into their home. Then from there, I headed back to my hotel, which meant I had to walk in front of a local university. There I tried a sweet red bean dessert. I then went back to my hotel and rested for a bit before taking a Gojet to the top of the mountain behind my hotel. I thought there would be a cafe shop up there but nothing was there. I just then just decided to walk home from the top of the mountain and see what the neighborhood looked like. I met some friendly kids and nice people, but also as you'll see, I met some kids and even adults who like to call me the F word and give me the finger. Good stuff! On the way back, I come across a WW2 memorial and share a little bit of the story of the Australian soldiers that were sent there to defend the island. It's a tragic story that I'll go into further detail about later in another video.

So this will be a recurring theme here in Ambon, unfortunately. I'll meet some of the nicest people you can imagine like Senda and Fallentino at the satay restaurant, or the girls at their home that welcomed me and couldn't be any nicer towards me, and then I'll meet some who think it's funny or ok to flip me off or curse at me. For the kids, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they don't know any better, but when it comes to the older ones, maybe they're serious, maybe they're joking, maybe they think I'm Dutch and they really pissed bout the colonial days 🤷♂, or they just really don't like me being there. I'll let you be the judge.
This isn't something I've noticed just in Ambon though, as you guys know, I walk around quite a bit in the places I go, and every once in a while I'll run into kids who throw around the F word and flip me off... again though, they're kids and I just think they don't know any better.

Don’t know why you mention the Dutch. We have a great relationship with Indonesian people. Yes Ofcourse there has been a past but I don’t know anyone who still hold that much of a grudge against people from Holland. As a Dutch person I never have any issue in indo with people hating on where I come from. It’s not like people in Holland still hate on the Germans much cuz of 40/45 ;-) I think it’s just random/rude behaviour. Maybe they think they are being ‘cool’ to their friends or so. Lucky you don’t understand most of what they say ;)
kok aku malu ya ngeliat orang kita melakukan hal yang tidak sepantasnya kepada orang lain. yuk bisa menjunjung tinggi ke sopanan dan keramahan indonesia. ingat terkadang satu orang yg berbuat nama suku, keluarga, daerah bahkan nama negara ikut kena getahnya.

Biasa, pendidikan yang kurang, dan kurangnya perhatian pemerintah, seperti biasa, indonesia itu cuma Indonesia bagian barat, eh gak deh, Jawa doang yg Indonesia, lainnya jajahan doang. Gak heran jawa makin maju, orangnya makin "baik" wong pendidikan bagus, kehidupan bagus, lapangan pekerjaan banyak. Saya sendiri ngajar SD di Medan, saya ngajar bahasa Inggris dan ya anak² taunya bahasa kotornya aja kebanyakan, dan mereka pikir itu lucu, saya ngajar bukan di kotanya, saya ngajar di pinggiran, jadi yah emang gitu dilapangan mbak, saya juga kadang mikir ntar balik ke jawa aja lagi ngajar, biar lebih nyaman dan mudah. Tapi apa bedanya saya dengan pemerintah, cuma cari mudah dan menguntungkan pulau jawa aja, orang² yg beneran membutuhkan malahan gak diperhatiin.
Benar bro.. Dulu sekitar tahun 2017/2018, saya sama tmn papasan sma dua bule perempuan di lapangan merdeka. Pas mereka lewat, ada bbrpa remaja yg duduk di bagian kursi2 yg ada di bagian dpan kantor gub, mereka triak buat 2 bule cwe itu dengan sebutan chicken chicken. Dua cwe bule itu menunjukan ekpresi yg marah.
dgn spontan sya dan tmn sya langsung bentak remaja2 itu.
Fix kita yg ada di situ jd malu.
meskipun SDM rendah...harus nya mreka masih punya sopan santun...Goblok boleh..tpi punya atitude..

Creating vlog content like Nick is not easy, because you have to have a strong mentality to face or meet people with bad attitudes like in this video. and that's just one of the challenges a vlogger must face. of course there are many more. I hope Nick always meets good people and is always protected by God. keep the spirit and keep working, I'm sure your channel will be successful and can be big.

I watched your RUclips video in Ambon, and I really appreciate you wanting to explore Ambon. But to be honest, as an Ambonese, I'm quite embarrassed to watch your last video. I am ashamed to see the attitude of some people towards you which I think is very inappropriate and should not be. I’m so sorry for that. I wonder why some people act like that. In fact, the people of Ambon are known to be very friendly and friendly. But I'm sure, there are still many places in Ambon with people who are kind and sweet. To be honest, Ambonese are still not very ready in the tourism sector and I am very concerned about that.
I suggest you to take a walk towards the city center. And if you want to see Ambon City from a hill, you can go to Karpan. There is a statue of Martha Christina Tiahahu, an Indonesian heroine from Maluku. Before the location of the statue, there is a cafe where you can also sit while enjoying the view of Ambon City. About the Australian soldiers, you can go to Kapaha, at the location of the graves of the Australian and New Zealand Soldiers (Gull Force). There are hundreds of graves there. The place is nice and tidy. Siwalima Museum, from your hotel you can use a Ojek. You can also go to Natsepa Beach and enjoy Rujak Natsepa, Fried Banana, Young Coconut Ice and many more.
In the city center, in the Urimesing area, at night you can walk there and enjoy Nasi Kuning on the side of the road. Many sell it. There are also cafes there and you can enjoy coffee and fried bananas eaten with chili sauce. Joas Coffee House is famous for being delicious. you can stop by and enjoy the good coffee. At night, you can also go to Cafe Sibu-Sibu and try Rarobang Coffee which uses Ginger and Kenari. (Kenari is the Almond of Maluku). You can also enjoy Live Music there.
When you in Ambon, you should also try to eat the typical Moluccan food, namely Papeda made from Sago. Papeda eaten with yellow sauce fish. There are many restaurants/restaurants in Ambon that sell it. You can try it at Dedes Restaurant located in Waihaong. If you don't like it, that's okay, at least you tried. You can also enjoy delicious grilled fish. In the Lateri area there are also several restaurants with a sea atmosphere selling papeda and many other delicious foods. If in Ambon, I guarantee the fish is fresh.
Unfortunately when you come to Ambon now, it's the rainy season. It is not recommended to vacation in Ambon in May, June and July due to bad weather. Coming to Ambon is best in October, November and December. But that's okay, this is an experience for you. If it rains and floods, don't be surprised if you will see trash everywhere. In the morning or evening, you can go to Merdeka Square, there are many people sports there. There is also a statue of the Pattimura who used to fight against the Dutch colonialists. Opposite Merdeka Square, there is a World Peace Gong.
Oh yeah, if you're walking around and see people selling food with the words RW written on it, I suggest you don't buy it because I'm sure you won't want to eat it because RW is made from Dog Meat. Indeed, people in several cities in Indonesia such as Ambon and Manado, they cook dog meat to eat. (Sorry for that, because it must be unpleasant for you).
Those are some things that I can suggest for you and I hope you can still enjoy your time in Ambon even though the weather conditions are not friendly. I experienced it when I was about to go back to my homestay with my nephews, we used gmap and still were being played and led to somewhere dark and only narrow path which was impossible to go through there because there was a big tree right few steps ahead and no lights at all 😀

The “no android, no wifi” grafitti was made as a protest towards the late government policy which forced students to study at home, online, during the pandemic, but the government didn’t have any responsiblity to provide the necessary equipment needed by the students (internet quota, phones). It’s a rather classist policy since it didn’t take into account the underprivileged families (not every household is able to buy gadgets and phone credit for their children).
They painted the governor saying “orang miskin dilarang sekolah” as a satire, meaning: the poor is prohibited from going to school. And the resigned student answer “what can we do?”

Very interesting to see. Thanks for showing. A member of my family died on the island Ambon in 1801. He was German and sold by his duke as soldier to the Dutch East India Company. Almost all of this soldiers died somewhere in Asia. This video helps me trying to imagine a little bit what he could have experienced there. Of course more than two centuries have passed since then.

Dan, di Maluku memang terkenal dengan cengkih dan pala, serta memiliki banyak pulau-pulau kecil lainnya.
Tetapi untuk daerah kota Ambon, sudah sangat jarang masyarakat yang menanam pohon cengkih dan pala. Bahkan di lokasi yang anda tuju, tidak terlalu banyak bahkan mungkin saja tidak ada. Kalaupun ada, hanya beberapa pohon saja. Karena, biasanya cengkih dan pala hanya bisa ditemui di dusun atau lahan dari warga asli Kota Ambon.

Hello.. I'm from ambon too. I think you have to go with guide so you can find right place to go, and if you searching for spices, you need to to banda island, it's like 8 hours from ambon you can go by ship. There are so much nutmeg and the sea views are amazing.

welcome to Maluku ... I hope you can go to the Kei Islands because there are natural attractions that are so beautiful. one of the best tourist attractions is " long sand " .
sometimes people do silly things because they're not well educated or less intelligent, they may looked rude but believe me, they just don't know what they do or what they say but deep in the heart, they're good kids and please don't take it personally. i hope soon the development of education in eastern part of Indonesia will be much better, because even in java where currently as the central of Indonesia, the education is also still developing and we still have a lot to work on.

Thank you for showing many other sides about Ambon and the Ambonese for whom you met in the streets. I saw that you have some bad experiences when you talked with some guys or kids. I'm sorry for that but on the other side your video have shown the social characters of some social groups. I thought that this video displayed the honest social picture about the Ambonese in their daily life. Your video also gave lesson to be learned further about the lack ability of Ambonese public communication for the "bule" guy like you. Thank you Nick. Hope can meet you someday.

Hey Nick, I used to live in Ambon as it is my hometown you mentioned that you didn't smell any cloves but I think it's just because it's not in season when you were there. When I still lived there a few times a year people will dry their cloves along the main streets and it smells so damn good when I was on my way to school.
Also @7:10 the driver were meant to tell you that you need to take the "jalan setapak" or up to the cafe

I'm not sure how Indonesian people thought giving the finger as "cool" but I'm ready to blame social media. I appreciate your incentive to at least not take it personally especially the cuss words coming from the bocils (kids) lol. But I honestly cringe when adults give foreigners the middle finger so confidently because they thought it was like a universal "cool handshake" or something. So on behalf of these adults, I'm sorry. And a little tip: you can say "Kamu (kah-moo)" instead of "Anda" especially when you're talking to kids or people that you consider an acquaintance. Enjoy your trip Nick. You know what, I think I'm subscribing.
It’s safe to not use kamu unless they are your younger friend. If speaking to mature man and woman you should use uncle-aunty or om-tanta or bapak-ibu.
People your age close and known well you use in Java use mas-mbak or bang-neng , in Ambon Bung-Nona or brother-sister. You can just also say kaka and adik to sound cool too.

I think you have to visit Batam, Kepulauan Riau. An Island that only took around 30 minutes if you wanna go Singapore! Theres a lot of good culinary in Batam!
