Always a lot of help with these tutorials! I was wondering, when you want to animate something more complicated, like the character walking around the place or fighting, how do you approach it? Just animating it inside the puppet or do you move the character around first to where you want it to be positioned and then you get in the puppet to start animating it?
Thanks very much! Good question. There's a lot of ways to approach it, all of which would be capable of producing a good end result. Personally, my approach would be to posses the puppet and use action recording for general movement. Then animate detailed specific movements when necessary with keyframes. Like if a guy is going to walk across a room and punch someone at the other end, you probably wouldn't want to have to meticulously animate every step he takes getting there when you can action record the walking and just focus on animating the punch. Of course, it's possible to do so. Just it's not something most people, myself included, would probably want to do.
Great! Thank you. Very useful. A question if you please? I’m making a video to post RUclips. It’s going to be an animated short. Can I include someone else’s creation in my video. A character for example. Or. Would I be done for copyright?
Thanks! Good question. Disclaimer: None of us cultists holds a degree in law. But, I would say it probably depends on if the character is owned by some corpos. Like, is the character from some big franchise, or is it something created by someone on Dreams? Are we talking about Mickey Mouse or Mecko for example? If it's from a big franchise, then my take would be that there is at least the risk if not the certainty of getting copyright claimed, depending on the company's attitude. If it's something someone made in Dreams, probably the risk is way way lower. They would probably still consider it nice if you credited them though.
Thanks for this reply. Most helpful. I’m looking for a male Troll character. I may try again to make my own. They always end up looking like my grandma?
Thanks for the question! Put a doorway on the end of the timeline. We'll probably make a tutorial about how to end dreams in general, since it's a subject that we should cover.
