"this will sound confusing.. but we are not drawing person.. we are drawing shapes and make people think about the person" - this was best part of whole session!!
Thanks :)
"Oh, I forgot the ear"
Draws ear in a simple stroke and look exactly like in the picture. There's no errors in art, only beautiful mistakes
Beedalius Saiquintus good talent skiled
I hope those students realise how lucky they are to have Yong Chen as their teacher.
:) thanks, Sam.
one yawning. another looking at her phone. :-/
We, lucky too!
@@agfagaevart yeah
@@agfagaevart they are really just what
The fact that you make statements like "it looks like i got that right", and that you openly admitted you had forgotten the ear highlight a rather important fact: people make mistakes. I took art classes with people who never openly stated their mistakes, so most of the students built up an image of the teacher as someone who is able to draw perfectly without effort or error, and that is very intimidating for most people. You show people that mistakes are ok, that they can be corrected, and that you can learn from it.
Finally, I see how it is done from start to finish. It is always easier to learn if you see the process broken down like this. You are a wonderful teacher - thank you for sharing this. I can't wait to see more of your tutorials :)
Thank you for taking your time to write me this feedback. I will make more.
This is as good as going to an art school
Thank you, it is a very nice compliment :)
hey ,if anyone else wants to learn about easy ways to draw portraits try Loctavan Amazing Drawing Strategy (just google it ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my buddy got great success with it.
This is better than art school. You can watch and learn any time you want and it does not cost a fortune and the teacher is better. My friend has a masters in art. I told her "come to my house and let's pump out commission portraits and make a small fortune. She said: "I don't know how to draw face's, only figures".
You are an amazing teacher.thanks from the heart for guiding us who don't have the money and time to go to the professional artists but still want to do good.
:)
Your videos on teaching art are excellent. The easy way you explain in ordinary terms without taking for granted that a person knows everything. Thank you .
Thank you for your feedback. :)
From the beginning of this video all I could think was - This person is a master 😍
No grids. No side-by-side same size drawing. No construction of cylindars and circles. Real world practicality. The students are lucky to have him as a teacher. Like the techniques and the tips he demonstrates.
this has to be one of the best demonstrations i have every seen. i was blown away. thank you,
Thanks Rosa.
I've been watching quite a lot of videos on the steps to draw a portrait of a face, but none of them are better than this one. The steps are very clear and you do it step by step without being in a rush! I love your art and your speech is incredible! I loved the part where you say "We are not drawing a person but shapes to make other people think its a person "! :)
I wanted to draw my grandmother's portrait, and had given it 2 attempts already, looking at various vedios trying to use their techniques, which I obviously couldn't execute, but only u talk about the most important thing : attention to able to see what u want n not getting caught up! Also your style helps me to not take it too seriously, and draw loosely and enjoy the process... which in turn relaxes my mind helping it keep focus... Just fantastic ❤️
"...and it looks like I got it right...." lol yeah dude you're a master. I get it. lol I love this channel.
Piper Rivers Thanks for subscribing.
Wow... thank you, I've been watching so many art videos but none of them helped me like u did
Wonderful teacher! Your videos are helping me to improve as an art instructor. I am teaching a portrait class at the present. Thank you!

Your drawing portrait instruction videos are the best I'v found on you tube. I am a professional watercolor artist and you are making me get behind on my commission work because when I watch your videos, it makes me want to draw for fun. Back in the day, we did not have videos or even other artist's to watch. We had to just learn on our own. You are a GREAT teacher.
this was amazing never thought about it as shapes!💙 thank you!
Xiexie Young Chen, I have learned so much in this lesson. Your time is appreciated!

I have no words to describe the portrait it's so so awesome
Chen, this is a wonderful demo. I like that you defined every mark as a shape. I feel greatly inspired! I can’t wait to draw a portrait (with its shapes) following your method. Thank you!
Thank u @Yong Chen now i can feel more comfortable usin charcoal pencils, n charcoal sticks now without feelin scared anymore thanks for showin it step by step because some ppl on here dont never show or explain step by step how they draw their artwork or how to use certain shapes wen drawing this really helps im recently startin back drawing again takin it one day at a time
+Krissi Using charcoal sticks need to use larger paper, commonly we use 18x24" drawing or charcoal paper, secondary, practice your charcoal pencil and charcoal sticks with different pressures, sometimes lighter, sometimes pressing more to make darker marks. Also, try the different hard, medium and soft charcoal, you may find some is easier than others. Have fun, and thank you for commenting.
