Jodi-Ann Bonnick-Anderson, the proprietor of a West Indian grocery store in Canada, is currently facing charges in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, accused of defrauding over $10 million from various business operators. One complainant alleges she received $3.2 million worth of groceries without payment. On another note, it's crucial for our community to support successful Black-owned businesses that not only deliver quality services but also prioritize customer and employee well-being. This situation highlights financial mismanagement and business shortcomings, as suggested by both financial issues and negative feedback from employees and the community. Its important to support the right black business that supports and gives back to black communities by not ones that does the bare minimum...

Now that she’s in jail…it’s a clear indication that she was justifying her actions, to make it seem as though she’s a victim. She gave it a good “run” in false pretence. Come on, she was scamming people, that’s in itself is wrong, on all levels. I don’t care how well she was running a “business” it was not an authentic, hard working, honest way of doing it! We’re being distracted by her “self pity” story, that we’re not paying attention to her actions and all the people that she scammed, knowing full well what she was doing. God will pull you down.

A week later i got an inbox message saying she’s stuck in Jamaica as her purse with her phone, passport and money was stolen in halfway tree and she wanted me to wire her some money until she returned. She claimed she only had her daughter’s iPad and used it to access instagram. I immediately called the store but no one answered. I instantly blocked her and never went back.

My daughter and my grandson, who was a few months at the time, went to support her business. She was selling Red Stripe Sorrel for $10 a bottle!! 😮 and without liquor license, at the time (not sure if she got it after) that time. Her approach was not so nice. She looked at my grandson who is a baby, as if he did something wrong. My daughter who noticed her behaviour towards a tiny baby was weird. I also hold the same last name as her, and I asked her where her relatives were from, and she was so vague about it. The way she was as if I came to “beg” her something…. I only asked her, because of the name (slave masters) last name. 🙄 I never went back there, because I don’t think she was that authentic. As a matter of fact, no one at the time was selling the Red Stripe Beer Sorrel except for her…. She sold items that most Caribbean stores couldn’t find. Also she was scamming people in Florida and got caught. This should tell some of us, [NEVER] look at what other people have! Some people post dem “fancy” lifestyle on social media and make it look as if they’re it. And always using “God” name for her “blessings” I’m not surprised that she would go to Jamaica, and try to do the same thing…but Bob Marley says “you can fool some people, but you can’t fool all the people all the time!!”

She kept making excuses and then the prices were extremely over the top. I left there so embarrassed to have followed the Instagram account and to waste my time and money travel from Ajax all the way into downtown Toronto for a waste. Bought patties that were stale. The amount of foot traffic she would need; continuous lines, 5+ registers and cashiers on deck, open 12 hours for business, anywhere from 10-30 people standing in line waiting to be served for most of that 12 hours. This was a dispensary, very minimal overhead costs as opposed to a freaking restaurant! Her profit margins must not have been THAT great. Here is the story: A Canadian citizen who is accused of receiving $3.2-million worth of goods will have to remain in custody for almost two weeks before knowing her fate.
This as investigators indicated that the woman has defrauded more than $10 million from other business operators. Jodi-Ann Bonnick-Anderson is before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to answer to one count of obtaining goods by fraud, with one complainant claiming that Bonnick-Anderson received $3.2 million worth of groceries from her. Brief allegations detailed that Bonnick-Anderson operates a West Indian grocery store in Canada and credited the goods from the complainant. She has yet to pay for the items.
However, her attorney-at-law, Vincent Wellesley, argued that his client did not benefit from the transaction, as she transferred the funds to a third party, who was instructed to pay the complainant.
"That person has died and he was the only beneficiary of this incident. There is proof of this wire transfer in her phone," Wellesley submitted. The lawyer indicated further that his client is with child and is experiencing complications with the pregnancy.
"She is being treated for a medical condition in Canada; she is spotting. She is not a flight risk," the lawyer said, adding that his client was willing to make restitution to the complainant.
"She has to stay where it is warmer," responded Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque, on the heels of utterances by the prosecutor that investigators are to record further statements from other complainants.
Bonnick-Anderson was made the subject of a fingerprint order and remanded in custody until February 20, when a bail application is to be heard.

People seriously underestimate the food industry and just how hard it is. I suspect that she was able to apply for a number of Toronto grants (some grants give you $250,000 depending on your business if it's brick and mortar etc!) it looks like she spent money on advertising and when the grant money started to run out as I have seen with other businesses she didn't know what to do or didn't have the integrity/support system to I turn things around. Her claim of making $20,000 a day I think is a hauty embellishment. that would mean she is serving a minimum of 1,000 people per day spending at least $20 each. The numbers just don't make sense and to me indicates a scammer mentality, the kind of person that goes broke looking rich. It sucks because she does seem like she has a talent for cooking maybe she can start something up out of her house as a home cook. But she clearly needs to get herself out of that scammer mentality. The devil is a liar and when you make your house his home God will give you what you deserve

Bro it's sad, we need to do better, these practices work in some of the Caribbean, like where I live, however, they take these practices abroad and think they can get away with it. Bad attitude rule in our paradise Island it's embarrassing. We have food that's year years out of date, clothes on racks for years and still want the same money, if you dare to challenge they get offended. However I work for my money did not come free, and I don't beg steal or borrow from them. We need to hold them all responsible. I lived in my parents home land for 10 +. What happens is that we are not the tourist whether at home or abroad. In the country and town where I was born many years ago. We had one shop to provide Caribbean food and it's still the same 60 years later. Sad sad sad. We screw ourselves over and over again at home and abroad. Sorry for the long things. Blessed. We need to raise our standards.. Money, power success got to her head.

Wait you were living the high life and didn't pay your employees? That is the height of wickedness. How you expect them to work for you and not get paid. Of course they're going to have an attitude. As for your customers, they too deserve better. You obviously had no plan for the future of your business and the money that you would make. I understand the issue dealing with customs, but why? Other stores bring in similar products and they are never in such poor condition as yours. Sorry for what you are going through. I really hope things turn around for you. You have extraordinary business sense, but you just need guidance and positive people around you.
