Old French lighter Restoration 1940

My dad had the lighter all the time, as long as I can remember. Even he doesn't remember where he got it from. I hope you also find the history of this lighter interesting.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but "souvenir d'esclavage" (captivity), and the dates, indicate that it was made by someone who was a POW. There's no end date - maybe they died before release, or gave it away to someone else who never finished it. I'd love to know!
A sweet piece of trench art, very nicely made and came up a treat with your careful work!
