Oh my gosh...I was just sitting here feeling sooo overwhelmed because there's so much to do. Thank you for this Erin! I have to remember to breathe & take one thing at a time.
Right I got 12 fruit trees to plant 8 fruit bushes 10 asparagus 50 strawberries 6 blueberries potatoes, sweet pot. and my back yard is flooded under 8 in water, and move compost and clean out coop, and empty garage, find fertilizer, and pot up all my seedlings or plant out , im hella overwhelmed .
Dividing my yard into zones has really been a game changer for me. Monday-zone 1… I’m finally getting to things I’ve been putting off. As long as I make some sort of progress in that zone I’m happy
Thank you for making this video, I needed it so badly! I was feeling so depleted earlier today, overwhelmed with a long list of garden tasks and sad that what I love is causing so much stress. Glad to know I'm not alone and grateful for the reminder to tackle little bits at a time while also getting out and having a little fun. Thank you Erin!
Great advice, as usual! Just what i needed TODAY! And we are scaling back this summer b/c we are have a kitchen remodel startling in mid July. I'm also "shedding" myself of stuff in our garden/stirage shed. Everytime I go into the shed. I come out with something for the trash. It's exhilarating!
Sage advice :) It is exactly that overwhelming season. Trying to get all plants in ground that I overwintered and now to tackle the milk jugs. But I do like the advice, 10 minutes here and there really does help!
Love your videos. I was literally working on marking up my to do list and feeling overwhelmed when I got a notification for this video! 💗 Taking it one task at a time.
Ad I get older I don't panic about much. IT ALWAYS GETS DONE!!! Might not be on others schedules, but it works on mine. Gardening, decorating for Christmas, cooking food for company, etc.
5 minutes before I watched your video I was contemplating how much there is to do. I also break jobs up into segments. Set timer on my watch for 15 minutes of weeding. Those 15 minutes add up and I feel less overwhelmed. Also great to see little patches of progress.
OH OH OH MY GOSH ERIN. You were speaking directly to me at the beginning of this video. I literally was walking around my garden and the garden center today, literally in circles just not knowing where to begin. So so so overwhelmed right now.
April and May on the east coast has been gloomy, raw and rainy - UGH! I can't get out there and I just know the weeds are loving the rain. I hope the weather doesn't go from this right into 90+ and muggy overnight - I depend on Spring 60s and 70s weather to get things done out there.
thanks Erin for being the first garden expert in the USA to use the Plantsurge, your tomato experiments in 2020 were ground breaking for us in the UK , these unoffical tests showed the benefits comparing magnetic soft water against tap water on growth of tomato plants from seed. benefits included; improved growth including larger leaves,, taller plants with stronger stems.
Great topic! Just today, the feeling hit me. Early in the season, much to do, and limited good weather days to get it done. Stressful, for sure. Really needed to hear this today. Thank you!
Absolutely feeling overwhelmed due to overbuying beautiful plants and really unseasonably hot weather making the job of planting much less pleasant. I have decided I will prioritize, get plants in the ground and then worry about all those weeds and limbs to trim:)))
Thanks for good counsel. Here in 8b Central Texas, the temperature is in the high 90s - already. Doing jobs for 15 minutes or 30 is about all I can stand at a time we. Then "if it doesn't get done, I doesn't get done."
Yes, a little bit at a time is the way to go. I try to spend 30 minutes doing something in the garden every morning before work and it has really helped me feel like I'm on top of thing eventhough I still have a lot to do. Plus it's a great way to start the day.
Hi, thats a great question, scientific research from the world''s leading magneto- elctrochemistry Professor, Mike Coey, Trinity Collge Dublin, shows that magetic fields alters the structure of the water causing a change in the ratio in favour of aragonite to calcite ( calcite clogs to pipes , araginite does not) the result s there is no scale or far less scale available to stick to the pipes, so it all flows out.
Hi, when you clip a Plantsurge to your hose pipe the minute you do this there is no more scale formed. But the challenge lies in the fact that if your hose is very clogged then you may need to clean it unless you replace the pipeing like Erin did. You can use chemicals to clean the scale off but Plantsurge offers a clean natural solution without using sodium or resins.
Great video. Don’t know if you know about Laura @ garden answers way, she zones her property out so each day is a zone…you don’t worry about projects in other zones. She has a video all about it, I used it last year and it was a total game changer. Love it. Really glad to see more videos 😁
You are so Inspiring Erin, I really admire you and your wisdom. We deal with the build up too. 😅 Thanks for the tips and water issues. Have a great weekend &week. 🥰 Chris
I so love your video. You seem to always know my struggles with my gardens and you always help me to address the problem. I just want to say thank you. You are amazing and always encouraging. Thank you
I have to agree with you 100 %. I have a small front garden and a medium back/side garden and I still have made about three zones like a,b,c, For weeding and fertilizing. This way I don't feel like everything has to get done all in one day and then about half way through summer I feel like the fun times of gardening is like no way. I just do things a little at a time so that I enjoy the gardens and not have them become my enemy. Anyways thank you for sharing and you have an awesome day.
Excellent video. It made me feel so good to hear you say don't stress over what has to be done. I injured my knee and can only do small jobs in the Garden. Yes garden overwhelm is real. 🥰
Good timing on this therapeutic video!! Between the ongoing rain this spring, I was making such good progress in my beds then I out of town a week and sick 2 weeks after, so I have been seriously stressed over my beds and haven't am about 7 weeks behind from last year putting seeds in the ground. But instead of being overwhelmed, I'm just going to keep plugging along and it WILL come together eventually!!
Chicago area here…. Weather issues. Been going full-tilt. Exhausting. I oddly find myself doing a little bit of everything with planting. Haven’t been able to get to weeds yet. Gah. BABY STEPS
Today's video has proven to be HIGH IMPACT on all of us gardeners who are feeling a wee bit stressed or overwhelmed. THANK YOU for reminding us to 'eat the elephant one bite at a time'.
Question: when you scrape the weeds with the hoe and take off the tops, 1. Will they grow back because their roots are still in the ground or 2. Because you've eliminated the leaves will it die because it can't photosynthesize? And 3. Leaving the foliage on the ground is ok? It'll just decay? Or is it better to pick it up in all cases? Thanks, I have tons of tree seedlings as well as other cotelydons and I'm hoping cutting them off at the ground will do the job to get rid of them.
After seeing this video I ordered a PlantSurge and did my own test. I potted up 3 identical black pearl ornamental pepper plants. I've been watering one with plain tap water (not run through the softener), one with Rain water and the 3rd with Magnet water. The rainwater and magnet plants are very similar with the tap water plant definitely lagging behind. It also seems like the tap water plant needs more water. I used the same soil and pots and they are sitting next to each other with the same growing conditions. The water has been set out so none of it was cold. In my flower beds I was moving the PlantSurge from one hose to the other and that got old. I just ordered 3 more which will give me an extra one for a gift. Check for coupon codes when you order.
I admit I make a list and add to it as I see more things to do. BUT I cross out each item as I complete it which feels incredibly satisfying. Have just ordered 3 Plantsurge for my hardwater area here in UK - I have to do a lot of hose watering here in the dry South East and notice my plants turn up their noses, much preferring the rainwater. They gizmos sound great so I hope I see a real difference.
Great video! I have a hard time not feeling overwhelmed... it's a pretty much a constant state when you have ADHD. I'm trying to learn that sometimes "good enough is good enough" and everything doesn't have to be perfect. You're right, we need to actually stop, relax, and take in the fruits of our labor. Good advice... thanks for the reminder.
Ahhh! I feel better now watching this video! 😂. I’m completing our local Master Gardener program this spring, and I knew that would consume a lot of my time, so I didn’t plan any big garden projects this spring. But, I feel like I’ve been scrambling to get my usual chores done. I have to remind myself I will eventually get to all of them.
I just bought one of these, and actually put it on my hose today! Woot! Woot!! Synchronicity!!! I remember you getting these last year, and I really liked the idea. Now, after watching your video this year, you're saying it prevents lime scale. Ok, that's good. I live in limestone country, so excellent thing to prevent! Now I've got a question... After the magnet is applied, Where do you suppose the lime GOES... ? Maybe its simply remixed in the water molecules to make it more bioavailable to the plants... ? I dunno. It's all very sciency! I like it!
Hi, when you clip the Plantsurge device to your hose pipes , the magnetic fields change the structure of the water , this changes the ratio of calcite to aragonite ( two clacium compounds ) to such an extent that there is no scale available to clog up the pipes.
Every time I do a walk-around just to look at my garden, flowers, etc., I carry a small trash bag and my clippers. There is always something that I can tidy up, pick up that’s fallen, not growing & yank it out, that saves me clean-up time later. When it all gets to be too much, I just go make a cup of tea and sit on my back porch and watch things grow lol. Retired now, so there’s no need to kill myself on weekends trying to get it all done. Thanks for sharing Erin.
Thank you so much for this I really needed it!! I was having one of those days after 8 hours of planting and I still felt discouraged. Why do we torture ourselves 😂because we love it❤️🌼🌸🌺
I am retired, and I love to garden. So, you would think I can get everything done, but no. I keep adding to the list of tasks that I never was able to find time for when I was working!!! I'm whittling down the list, day by day, but let me tell you that it's a little less stressful when you know you have every day ahead of you. Also, I've rationalized to myself that if I decide to "take a day off" from gardening, I can, and not feel guilty. Tomorrow is another day.
I am at this stage right now. Ugh. I want everything to look perfect and that just is not a thing. I have huge beds, I work waaay too much and I am pooped! Glad I am not alone. I was just sitting here looking at the vast amounts of chores to be done and saw my hydrangeas and damn girl, I took your suggestion and wasn't scared about pruning and I will be damned, they are all leading out lol. Phew
Erin, I watched Bunny’s video on the magnetic you attached to your hose could you please let me know where you purchased it. Thanks so much for all your great videos.
Supposedly it doesn't collect the minerals, instead a strong magnetic field changes one form of calcium to another form which doesn't cause scale as well as causing other changes to molecules by breaking hydrogen bonds. I was kind of skeptical myself, but there is some evidence that it might just work. They have used sea water to irrigate after passing it through strong magnetic fields. However, it looks like they use expensive electromagnetic devices which would be much stronger than the magnets.
what happens is that the magnetic fields from the Plantsurge device changes the struture of the water which changes the ratio of the calcite and aragonite ( the two main clacium compounds) so there is no more scale
I was horribly overwhelmed a few days ago , so much to do !!! I told my husband I was ready to sell and not have a yard anymore 🤣.. that's not going happen, thank you for reminding me I'm not alone 👩🌾👨🌾
I have been there! And then mid-summer comes around when the garden chores are simpler: watering and deadheading and I think "Oh, I'm so happy I have this garden." Hang in there!
I fell off a ladder putting up a deer fance, wrecked my ankle and hit my head etc. Damn, you can imagine how overwhelmed I felt to - yes, I'm on your wavelength. Warm regards Jennie
Thats what I've been doing with our garden club at school... Of course it would be beautiful if we had weeded everything at once but the kids would have hated me and hopefully we will have something to eat in a week!
My problem (I’m sure as most) is wanting everything to look good all at once and if you have a large gardening area, holy cow can it be overwhelming! Thank goodness there is wine 🍷Makes it much easier to… 🎶 Let it go, let it goooooo🎶 😜
Hey Impatient Gardener I have a question...So I have 13 papaver somniferiums growing that I planted 6 weeks ago...I would like to get some more growing but I don't want to wait till next year...I live in Virginia and I want to know if I planted some say two weeks from now would they be able to be fully grown by September? Or would the heat kill them?
Water softened with Potassium chloride is safe for plants. In fact, it can actually be good for them if you choose to hook up your water softener to outside water. Potassium is a common fertilizer that causes plants to be greener and grow faster.
Yes, that is the Sneeboer Royal Dutch Hoe and I love it. I got mine from Garden Tool Co. but you could also try Garden Heir, which is now carrying Sneeboer tools.
OMG - I desperately need that first tool you used on the little seedlings!!! My back is killing me from all the tiny weeds popping up everywhere right now 😱 I’m using the “Garden Answer” zone system this year and so far it is working for me. Laura has described it a few times on her RUclips channel...it allows me to focus on one area at a time free from the guilt of ignoring the tasks in tomorrow’s zone.
That magnet idea sounded a bit suspect and I am unsurprisingly unable to find any confirmation on any effect a magnet would have on the interaction between two non magnetic substances like water and limescale(Calcium&Magnesium).. Please don't peddle snake oil.
Hi, when you clip the Plantsurge device to your hose pipes , the magnetic fields change the structure of the water , this then changes the ratio of calcite to aragonite ( two clacium compounds ) to such an extent that there is no scale available to clog up the pipes. Reference work of Professor Mike Coey, Trinity College, Dublin.
The video title was unfortunately a bit misleading - there were definitely 1-2 tips but otherwise it seemed like a commercial for the lime scale magnets. Disappointed but never happens with other videos of Erin’s so will put it down to me being super overwhelmed right now & wanting a magic bullet.
Yes I agree that Erin was commercially sharing her experience with the Plantsurge device, but she has been using them since 2020 and was the first ever garden exoert in the USA to use the device as well as carry out case studies on tomato plants, with quite anazing results. They also solve her hard water problem - a gardeners best friend don't you think?
I'm just going to copy paste my answer from another comment I made a while back on someone else's video about how life changing this magnet was: "Your link only provides biased 'proof' from the company itself with no links to the mentioned scientific papers. Just some pretty flowers and an excell file. No mention on how it was conducted under which circumstances. Water isn't magnetic and can't be made so (only by VERY strong magnetic fields that are only feasible with huge amounts of energy). The company says the magnet reduces the 'cluster size' of the water molecules. What the F is that!? o.O Water molecules form hydrogen bonds with each other because the molecule is polar. These break and reform billions of times a second. We also know that the lower the temperature of a substance, the higher its density (it contracts). Except for water! It expands. Because of the hydrogen bonds. When water reaches 0°C, the kinetic energy of the molecules is no longer strong enough to break the hydrogen bonds and are locked in place in a crystal lattice: ice. When the temperature rises again above 0°, the crystal collapses, causing the water molecules to 'slip closer' to each other. That's why water has the highest density at 4°C, above which the kinetic energy of the molecules is high enough to cause them to move faster and thus create more distance. So you see, if you were to believe that this might make plants take up more water, you should actually be watering with 4°C water. NOT use a magnet. And then I haven't even explained how water actually is drawn up the plant... Besides, said 'independent trials' were conducted by a horticulturalist, not someone with a scientific degree/doctorate. Said person also did this (and other!) trial while under contract of a company (another nursery). So ofcouse the results would be in favor of the paying client." As for the lime and other minerals in solution: what happens to them? Do they just magically disappear? Let's assume the magnet does prevent lime buil-up, I assume it would be by suspending the mineral particles in place within the magnetic field (or atleast hold them against the hose wall). When new water with more minerals in solution runs past, these new particles will just make the already present lime build up and eventually clog up the hose. I'm sure that hasn't happened yet? No, this does NOT work.
@@TheImpatientGardener I'm very weary of the word 'independent' because like I said in my comment above, that study wasn't really. But I'll admit that I haven't. Someone else has and I'm just playing parrot at this point.
Just a general word of warning, magnetic water treatment is regarded as unproven and unscientific. Variations of gadgets of this kind have been around since the 1930's. The trial mentioned is hardly rigorous or scientific, and it contains pretty ridiculous results. If something sounds too good to be true, well...
Oh my gosh...I was just sitting here feeling sooo overwhelmed because there's so much to do. Thank you for this Erin! I have to remember to breathe & take one thing at a time.

Exactly 💚 We have to try to take time to enjoy what we are trying to create.
Perfect timing!! I just came inside from having walked circles in the garden for an hour and got nothing done. Love your videos!
I did exactly the same thing last week! 😆
Same!
Dividing my yard into zones has really been a game changer for me. Monday-zone 1… I’m finally getting to things I’ve been putting off. As long as I make some sort of progress in that zone I’m happy

HOW DOES A MAGNET STOP LIME SCALE AND WHERE DOES THE LIME GO IF A MAGNET IS USED?

Hello Erin, thanks for the information on magnetic gizmo for the hose. I'm curious on how you clean the lime substance from the hose? Thanks, Cheryl

Plantsurge.com (it should automatically switch to the U.S. site)
So what happens to the lime scale? Does it build up in hose?
Was wondering, the same thing. Maybe, you then flush it out later or if it eventually builds up in the hose at that magnet area point and sticks?
@@karinchristensen220 yes I agree with you, this is a really helpful answer, thanks
Warm regards
Jennie
Thats what I've been doing with our garden club at school... Of course it would be beautiful if we had weeded everything at once but the kids would have hated me and hopefully we will have something to eat in a week!
When gardening stops being fun - I stop for the day.
My problem (I’m sure as most) is wanting everything to look good all at once and if you have a large gardening area, holy cow can it be overwhelming! Thank goodness there is wine 🍷Makes it much easier to…
🎶 Let it go, let it goooooo🎶 😜
OMGosh was just thinking weeds ....... or wine ....... ok tomorrow is good for both hx
No just owerwhelmed by the constant snowfall. I dont get to do anything and that is frustrating!!!
What is that tool called that you used for weeding? I so need that!
Oh that is my Sneeboer Royal Dutch Hoe. I LOVE it. :)
Do you have to flush the line every so often to clear the buildup at the magnet site so it doesn’t completely clog up?
Have you tried soaking those clogged hoses in vinegar? Don't know if that will do anything but a thought.
actually vinegar and lime can help clean off scale , but using a Plantsurge which needs no chemicals can keep pipes clean 24/7
I repeat... the joy is in the journey. A garden is always evolving and changing...😂some days I look for joy in the weeds😂
We soaked our drip tubing in a bucket of vinegar last year hoping it would eat away some of the scale. We'll see how it goes real soon 😆
Oh, report back if you can! I suppose that should work because it does with shower heads, right?
We just set ours up today and they all seem to be working great. They had slowed down last year but were not completely clogged.
Where do the lime and mineral deposits go?
I was wondering that too.
I have 2 huge baptisia plant and i wonder how to divide them, I tried with a shuffle, impossible. If you have a trick pls, share.
Water softened with Potassium chloride is safe for plants. In fact, it can actually be good for them if you choose to hook up your water softener to outside water. Potassium is a common fertilizer that causes plants to be greener and grow faster.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing. Do you have to have a special water softener for that?
@@TheImpatientGardener Nope! 😁
Great Video ! Can you share the source of the garden hoe you used at the beginning ?
Yes, that is the Sneeboer Royal Dutch Hoe and I love it. I got mine from Garden Tool Co. but you could also try Garden Heir, which is now carrying Sneeboer tools.
Where do you buy the plant surge?
They are via mail order. Google. Look for coupon codes. The price includes shipping which I love.
OMG - I desperately need that first tool you used on the little seedlings!!!
My back is killing me from all the tiny weeds popping up everywhere right now 😱
I’m using the “Garden Answer” zone system this year and so far it is working for me.
I tried to order plantsurge and they said they couldn’t ship to me in Michigan??
Laura I forwarded your message to them so you should be hearing from them.
I'm in Michigan and had no problem. In fact I just placed a 2nd order.
Perfect timing with Mercury Retrograde - it's an ideal time to finish up small nagging jobs rather than big new ones. 🌹 🌻
On top of the normal craziness I decided I’m adding an irrigation system…. Myself.
I’ve been there but think of how much time you’re saving yourself down the line!
👍🏻💚🌿
I'm just going to copy paste my answer from another comment I made a while back on someone else's video about how life changing this magnet was:
"Your link only provides biased 'proof' from the company itself with no links to the mentioned scientific papers.
What the F is that!? o.O
Water molecules form hydrogen bonds with each other because the molecule is polar.
So ofcouse the results would be in favor of the paying client."
As for the lime and other minerals in solution: what happens to them? Do they just magically disappear?
Let's assume the magnet does prevent lime buil-up, I assume it would be by suspending the mineral particles in place within the magnetic field (or atleast hold them against the hose wall). When new water with more minerals in solution runs past, these new particles will just make the already present lime build up and eventually clog up the hose. I'm sure that hasn't happened yet?
No, this does NOT work.
Hey Lee-Roy, I always appreciate your comments. Did you see that there have now been some independent studies done?
@@TheImpatientGardener I'm very weary of the word 'independent' because like I said in my comment above, that study wasn't really. But I'll admit that I haven't. Someone else has and I'm just playing parrot at this point.
Don't know which way to run...lol
Just a general word of warning, magnetic water treatment is regarded as unproven and unscientific. Variations of gadgets of this kind have been around since the 1930's. The trial mentioned is hardly rigorous or scientific, and it contains pretty ridiculous results. If something sounds too good to be true, well...
Very stressful.
Oh paleeeeze , those clip on hose dealies have to be a gimmick.
Whatever they are, i don't want them lol
