- While visiting the TapOuT gym in Las Vagas , we decided to take a class with Vinny Magalhães, Ultimate Fighter finalist and BJJ world champion. Here Vinny shows the armbar from the Z mount (or S Mount) and how to get the other arm out of the mix as you go for the armlock.
I have been friends with Vinny for years as well as his sponsor years before the TUF show. You guys who follow these great videos are now getting to see what I have knows for a long time .Vinny is a great guy with a great sense of humor and very polite person. He also has SICK BJJ that is light years ahead of his time!
hurry up guys :) waiting for the next set of videos
yep...I delete all the lame 'first' comments ;-) Your welcome gr00ms1...thanks for tuning in..as always!
landing at exactly....45 degrees!
awesome technique, loved how he isolated the fighting arm:)
i allllmost was able to pull it off in class yesterday, thanks for the tip!
I like going for the double wrist lock from s/z/manji mount. You can also get a triangle, and an arm crusher from her as well.
Beautiful set up for the armbar
Wow awesome technique shown here by Mr Magalhaes
Great explanation. I´ve been struggeling to get the armbar from mount position. But I am very flexible. I just didn´t know what to do. I´m just a white belt so I basically just do some random stuff. I get it sometimes, but mostly I lose it on the transition (I'm also allot smaller than the other guys I train with). But this seems to control it all. I'm going to try this next training session immediately.
nice and tight transition, I like it. Thnx for posting
Nice Job breaking it down Vinny!
Awesome! Thanks Vinny, great technique!
great illistration 3-4 times slow with emphasis on technique great lesson very grateful.
@kenpachii100 just give it some time. After about 6month to a year of training, this will be easy to remember.
An escape from high mount requires you to move your shoulders in which you can't do while they are being squeezed together and pinned upward. All you could do here in buck your hips in which his base is to wide and tight and can easily hook. I have never had anyone get out of a high mount if done properly.
I like that. I'll be using this at my next roll session.
best modified mount armbar.. great misdirection and control.
Cool. That makes sense. Thanks Vinny!
really nice, i how he explains it throughly
Yes...Vinny just calls it the Z mount...no difference. Some people call an americana a hammer lock and some call it a ude garami...
i love how vinny holds the leg before he sits in the spider web like eddie. it calms everything down and keep the guy from going to his knees
We like Gracie Barra Vancouver! Woop Woop!
this technique is sick, people think its easy to get out, but it is really hard because lack of space.
@newerest1 its easy to get if you get the guy to lift his arms(straighting his arms in mount). One good way to do this is by bugging the neck. Putting your foreknuckles in the side of his neck (think panther paw in kung fu ) or as vinny did underhooking the arms. I hope this helps. Good luck and keep training.
very nice attack!!
Z mount and S mount...same thing...its just what Vinny calls it
Vinny...its all good...Z and S look the same..hell...what's in a name? ;-) Thanks for the video..stay tuned for your omoplata and gogoplata set ups later in the week! Thanks again bro!
Do you guys know why i like Submissions 101 ? You guys have ALWAYS good videos..!!! :-)))
cool I'm gonna try this thanks!
not if you pinch your knees together.. A high mount is probably the best possition you can get.. And it is n o t easy to escape from.. Your legs won't really do you anything good for escaping, and if the guy pinches his knees and stays heavy, you're in trouble.. It's also the greatest punch possition, imo, cause the opponent have limited space to move his arms and elbows around =)
Very useful thanks!!!
vinny seems pretty cool
fun to strike from there too, no? Odd how you don't see it much in UFC. (but then, I said the same thing about push kicks to the face and eventually they figured it out haha)
Why are they calling it the Z-mount? I've always known it as the S-mount. I do like the entry using the shoulder control and I like the arm control at the end, too.
Nice Vidd
@ACEBOY00
yeah i've always heard this refered to as the s mount
I'm going to start calling it the Worm Mount and see if that catches on. :) hehe
@Submissions101 I thought hammer lock was the same as kimora, did you mean figure 4? That's what Bas Rutten uses (figure 4).
I honestly don't even know why I call it Z mount, maybe I'm just mixing it up with the Z Guard that I like to use a lot. You guys might be right, it's probably S mount.
Well, it is quite possible. But ofcourse when you are tired, not very strong(compared to the opponent)and the oponent has a very "tight" grip then it's hard.
Nice, we worked this last class.
You guys are great, keep it up Subs 101!
-Gracie Barra Vancouver
hey vinny i have really bad knee problems my knees always becoming dislocated does that brace help with problems like that? If so what kind of brace were you wearing
Nice but I see a problem with the high mount, it's an easy scape through his legs.
very nice ! but its still the S Mount
ya i knw
good shit
whas the song in the back ground
grapplers can be strikers and vise versa.look at bj penn awesome grappler but smashes people standing up,also gsp started out as a striker now he passes world bjj champs guards and gets dominate pos on the ground.you gotta do it all now.
Ok, I'll give you that.
genius
have you ever punched someone in the back of the head without a glove on? hurts like hell and people have even broken there hands doing it in the early UFC fights
People should be spending more time in drilling this sweet armlock rather than trying to correct Vinny on whether its called and S or a Z mount
haha yeah I think its the same thing
You're czech?
oooos
Lol idk why anyone says first on here ari deletes your ass... But anyways thanks for the upload bro
you do know better than vinny so im sure you're right
Oh, you don't think he knows this...lol
belly down? how is that good at all you cant even hit his face
