There are some men that tread the depths of musical expression and then there are some men that walk on water to show you how its done. Colin you walk the current of this music and are an inspiration to us all. Thank you for giving us this moment to enjoy great music. I have had this in my favs for three years now and continue to come back to it often for a soul lifting experience. Thank you.
This American loves your music. Words cannot express how wonderful this music is. I repeatedly listen to this a lot in my free time. Thank you for this.
Colin I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to this song it soothes my soul. My Grandson Scott Sherman plays in an Irish band here in Denver,CO and we have his Weber Octave Mandolin on order he thinks this sound can bring so much to the band. Thanks so much for inspiring us all.
Reba Sherman Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoy this tune; it was certainly a treat performing it with Alan's wonderful guitar accompaniment. Best wishes with your new Weber, I'm sure your grandson will love it. They make marvelous instruments. I'm just down the road in Wyoming. Be sure to let me know if your grandson's band makes its way out west here. They might consider applying to perform at the Evanston Celtic Festival held every March.
Thank you posting the link for the music Colin, I bought it. I’m a play by ear girl but I think I can get it. I just got an Eastman Octave mandolin. Not on the same level as a Weber but in my price range and it sounds really nice. My lockdown continues as I just started chemo. This will be my 4 1/2 month lockdown/kick cancers ass project and I’m relentless when I’m learning so I’ll post this on my channel in December as a Christmas gift for everyone (mostly me). I really like this version. Thank you.
Love this tune just started on the mandolin have a Loar A-style have ordered a Pilgrim Celtic Dawn mandola I play guitar but Irish mandolin has caught me you guys have inspired me cheers
Best of luck with your mandolin and mandola... If I can help you get going or answer any questions don't hesitate to reach out! Thanks for listening, all the best!
@@colinbotts Thankyou I went to the shop had to reorder the mandola the pilgrim was in tenor tuning so setteled for Ozark octave mandola some brands call them mandolas others mandolin
@@pinkmoon4211 Yeah, the variety of names, tunings, etc. in the mandolin/cittern/bouzouki world can be pretty maddening. Hope you get it sorted and end of with an instrument that you're happy with!
Hats off to a fantastic rendition of my all time favorite Hornpipe! And I agree with what people have already said - It really soothes my my soul to listen to this. Over and over. Thanks for sharing!
@@ume_music Thank you! Amazing that you were able to maintain the somber pace, as hornpipes tend to gallop. The tempo adds gravitas. Again, well done! J
Just taking up OM (inspired by the likes of yourself). Info is all over the place online - wondering if you tune standard mando tuning or Irish Bouzouki tuning for playing in the Celtic style
Sorry for the late reply, I'm just now seeing your question. Tuning is GDAE. I appreciate the Irish bouzouki tuning GDAD for its open-string possibilities accompanying, but personally found GDAE to be more versatile.
I wish this hornpipe was played more often. Jolyon Jackson and Paddy Glackin made a recording in the 80's called Hidden Ground that has a classic version of this tune on it. Some kind soul posted a copy of that LP here on youtube. ruclips.net/video/4UTjsLyEgog/видео.html
@@colinbottsI really like the arrangement but your title is confusing me- the song to me sounds lick a slow version of “rights of man” - drunken sailor is a sea shanty type of deal- probably just me not knowing
@@brettaylor5282 This is a traditional tune known by the same title, and yes, it's a hornpipe similar to Rights of Man, Galway, and countless others. Thanks for listening, glad you liked it!
stumbled across this acoustic gem!! what a mellow tune. love the style of playing. what kind of weber octave do you have? 20 or 22 inch scale. would love to learn this tune. joe
I wish I could give you a good answer, but the reality is that you should probably try a few different gauges to discover what you like the best. I happen to really like D'Addario EJ80, but there might be something out there that you'll like better. Here's a link to what I use, if you want to try them: www.daddario.com/products/guitar/mandolin/phosphor-bronze-mandolin/ej80-octave-mandolin.-phosphor-bronze-medium-12-46/
I see. And yet at least the A part seems to have some relationship to the song. Is it an old hornpipe? Maybe some seasick sailors stole the tune as best remembered and had their way with it...
Sheet music now available at: killarney.bandcamp.com/merch
Thank you all for your comments and views. Cheers, Colin
You're welcome!
How utterly sublime that was to hear. Colin is a masterful player.
And it kooks like great fun to play.

Weber Gallatin F.

So I've only known this as a singing song but it sounds nice this way...was it originally an instrumental?
Different tune altogether I believe.
Where can I find tab for this tune anyone?
thesession.org maybe not tabs, but surly standard notation
email me through my website and I`ll help you out
Cheers Colin but keep getting message your web page is down

I see. And yet at least the A part seems to have some relationship to the song. Is it an old hornpipe? Maybe some seasick sailors stole the tune as best remembered and had their way with it...
lol
What`s the mandolin tune?
GDAE, one octave below standard mandolin tuning.
.
Theme of Popeye the sailorman
The Popeye theme is actually The Sailor's Hornpipe. Different tune. Thanks for listening!
