    for everyone having trouble with the key 1 and key 2 wires, apparently you're supposed to attach one of the Honda's steering wheel control wires to ground and the other one to key1 (or key2). Key 2 is just for in case you have a lot of steering wheel buttons. I'm installing it tomorrow to verify if this is true.

    • @sevkibicen8377

      Hi man, so as I understand that key 1 or 2 have to go to input and we take ground from black cable(ground cable) from main harness. But for example if my car has 2 group of steering wheel control buttons like 3 each side. Should I both key 1 and key 2 connect to input?

      @@sevkibicen8377 well that entirely depends on your car. You just gave me a hypothetical scenario. Does ur car really have 2 cables? If so then connect one of the + cables to key1, the other to key2, and ground the negative one. That's how it worked for me with my single wire.

    This is very helpful, thank you so much. I am installing a different radio than the one you installed here on my 2008 Honda Odyssey. The radio came with 2 steering wheel wires labled as SW1 and SW2. In your video, you showed that the your brown is connected to key 1 (ground) and key 2 wires on your harness. I was wondering if my SW1 is equivalent as your key 1 ground, and my SW2 is your key 2 wire? Thanks for your input. :-)

    Great demo! Looks like a nice unit 👍
    However why wouldn't they make the opening big enough for their screen ? That's odd
    And the wiring is odd also they give you two wire plugs that you have to put together why not just have it factory wired together and the customer could just cut the wires that weren't needed ? Again great detail 👍

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  7 лет назад +2

      The Scosche plastic bezel is actually a proper double DIN size that would fit all the Sony, Pioneer, JVC stereo, but the China brand Android unit with the 7" screen is bigger than the standard opening. As for the wiring, that's very normal for any aftermarket car stereo. There is one harness that plugs to the aftermarket radio, then it's the customer's responsibility to figure how they will wire it to the factory wiring. In this video, I show you how to 'easily' wire everything up by buying a wiring harness that plugs directly to the factory plug. You will notice with the way this was installed, no factory wires were cut. The factory stereo can be reinstalled at anytime if you want. Hope the info helps. Thanks!

    • @juiced71
      @juiced71 7 лет назад

      dial2fast oh ok got ya that does help thank you 👍
      I just figured if they were supplying the wiring harness it would be easier to just cut the wires not needed then have to soldier each one
      And yes it's very nice that you don't have to cut into the factory harness this way you can put the old system back in for resale
      Thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate it

    Does your 08 Honda Odyssey came with HFL? (handsfree link), I tried following your guide with my 2011 honda cr-z ex no nav. It worked out great, thanks. The only thing I couldn't get to work was the steering wheel controls, I found the 2 wires (one for ground and one that detects voltage for audio remote switch) I need from my harness but after wiring it the same way as you did it still didn't work.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  6 лет назад +2

      My Ody does not have handsfree, but for the steering wheel control, you should check with a multimeter to see if each button press will have a different resistance on those two wire from the factory harness. There is no voltage coming from the two factory wires (when not connected to the stereo). The aftermarket stereo will detect the voltage drop of each button press and saves it in its memory.

    • @Magi_Carp_
      @Magi_Carp_ 6 лет назад +1

      dial2fast yes, I checked it with a multimeter like what you did and and it does recognize the resistance change when any of the buttons are pressed. unlike your HU, mine only has 2 wires for steering wheel controls ( SW-Key 1 and 2, no SW-Key Ground). I grounded one of the wire for the SWC and connected the wire that detects the button press to SW-Key 2 (also tried it in SW-Key 1) but it's still not detected on the Head Unit, I wonder if mine is just defective or am I going to need one of those universal SWC adapter (like the Axxess ASWC-1)
      Edit: NVM, i re checked all my connections and I finally figured out what's wrong, one of the SWC wires that neess to be grounded was not properly wired. Now its it's working. Thanks again

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  6 лет назад +2

      If you don't have SW-Key ground, try connect one of the factory SWC wire to either the SW-Key1 or SW-Key2. Then connect the second factory SWC wire to stereo ground wire. AFAIK, SW-Key1 and SW-Key2 are both used for SWC signal and should not connect direct to ground.

      I took a look at that Jensen guide and indeed it shows SWC (A/B/gnd) similar to the Android unit. But the guide also mentions recommending to use the PAC SWI-RC device but the PAC install guide shows connecting to the aftermarket radio via 3.5mm phono jack....which I don't see the Jensen unit having in the wiring diagram. Guess if the Jensen UI has a menu to map buttons like the Android, you can always try to wire it up and see if it works (without the PAC device).

    • @theostroomer1071
      @theostroomer1071 2 года назад +1

      Yes you leave the middle two connectors unplugged, except for adding steering wheel control.
      For steering wheel control, connect a positive KEY wire to PIN 6 or 7 wire (see video at 9:20). Then you ground the other wire that is in PIN 6/7, the one you didn't connect to KEY. If you have a KEY Ground wire on your new harness you use that to ground the 6/7 wire. If you don't have a KEY ground wire then add a wire connecting your black GROUND wire to the non-keyed PIN 6/7 wire.

      You'll have to find a head unit with RCA video output, and do some trickery with the control circtuitry to get the rear video to turn on. Do a search for "dccharacter honda odyssey" for more information.

    Looking to update 2010 Odyssey EXL without navigation. Want to include remote start, steering controls, apps from internet like siriusxm, prime, hulu and others. Back up cam on radio but also allows playing while driving.
    The EXL has a different setup than Odyssey with navigation. We have a flip down tv in the back maybe two I have 5 miles in it since I bought it. Has small reverse cam in mirror which sucks. It seems to have an issue playing DVDs and sound separate from music. Want to re wire it to play apps on back tvs and plug in wired headphones so we only hear kids enjoying their shows.

    Any update with this unit? I added it to my cart and am about to buy.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  6 лет назад +1

      I haven't had time to film an update, but I have been using it daily since making this video, and it has had no issues. Always turn on and start the audio with starting the car. All functions work well. Sound quality is good. If I need internet connection to unit, I tether my mobile phone to the unit and run Waze for GPS. Play all my music using a USB stick. No issue with Android and runs fine.

      Wow. Thanks for the quick response. I have the same car and plan to follow your installation. Great video.
      Also, do you ever plan on installing the dash cam that came with the unit?
