That's also what happened here with Minecraft. But yeah at least in Sonic it's animated characters in a live action world and not the other way around.
I really wish the minecraft movie was all animated and just like the story of steve and his journey to fight the ender dragon. The end credits could be like what rolls after you fight the ender. that would be sick. but it really should have fully been animated and just about steve and like alex maybe too he can recruit a crew. THAT would've been super super cute.

It wasn't anything good visually. The new trailer in my opinion is at least an effort to make cinematic quality imagery in the style of the original game, the GS is bad technically but the art direction is at least decent. Story mode in comparison didn't really have anything going for it.

Not only do kids deserve good media too, but “Family Movies” mean that the movie needs to be able to entertain the adult parents/guardians that are there with the kids. Unless their target audience is 6 and under, most kids that actually play Minecraft are old enough to know how bad this is.
I just don't get it. They have the blueprint already from successful Minecraft animations like Captain Sparklez Fallen Kingdom series and Element Animations Villager News series. it would have been so much cooler if jack black had introduced himself as jack black the minecraft streamer and they were all trapped in the game and had to find their way out. This game has such a rich community and the fact that the movie does not address that is a huge missed opportunity to make the movie meta and therefore relatable.
They made this for fictional kids that they think they know. Like good kid-relevant films have actual depth and deserve to be treated as well as they treat award winning high brow films. There's another fan animated trailer that's really good, it adds a neat end trailer bit replacing the llama, also makes it so Steve arrives via ender pearl rather than a random fire explosion. Also it replaces the tesseract with something that actually exists in Minecraft. The fact that they fumbled the bag this badly seems like it could be a masterclass in what not to do lmao, I mean, granted, we've not seen the actual film yet, so maybe that won't be the case.
The difference between making a movie for captial vs for fans. I wouldnt watch either look but i think the fan one would be better for all fans who play and watch game play, which is already a huge market.

My 7yo certainly freaked out ... as he thought it looked bad since it wasn't animated like Mario, and Jack Black doesn't look like Steve. He is more exited about the upcoming Netflix series. He doesn't care about this movie at all.
Here’s the thing, even if the core audience that their aiming for is young children, that doesn’t excuse how absolutely terrible the movie looks. The majority of kids films that are revered as some of the best all look at least somewhat decent, I don’t understand the push towards incredibly cheap poor quality live action cgi for these popular kids movie when it’s clear that you can make well loved IPs into movies that look good. It’s definitely just a money grab and has zero passion at all. Remember how amazing the newest Puss In Boots movie was, I’m sure the new Shrek movie coming up will also blow this out of water. I mean even the Mario movie looks so much better than this

My 7yo certainly freaked out ... as he thought it looked bad since it wasn't animated like Mario, and Jack Black doesn't look like Steve. He is more exited about the upcoming Netflix series. He doesn't care about this movie at all.
Here’s the thing, even if the core audience that their aiming for is young children, that doesn’t excuse how absolutely terrible the movie looks.
The majority of kids films that are revered as some of the best all look at least somewhat decent, I don’t understand the push towards incredibly cheap poor quality live action cgi for these popular kids movie when it’s clear that you can make well loved IPs into movies that look good. It’s definitely just a money grab and has zero passion at all.
Remember how amazing the newest Puss In Boots movie was, I’m sure the new Shrek movie coming up will also blow this out of water. I mean even the Mario movie looks so much better than this

the makers probably assume that only children play minecraft so they made a shitty movie thinking kids wouldnt notice BUT its actually mostly adults who never grew out of their minecraft phase (me)
maybe not mOsTlY adults, but a lot of adults do play it
