Great video. As a five year Evernote user, I must say, Scannable is a real Home Run for Evernote. Thank you for your informative videos!
David G. Stuart Glad to hear it David
Thanks, Dottotech! Evernote is being such a tease. Premium Evernote member here. Even though they promoted Scannable to all users when the Android app has not yet been released, I subsequently found a very comparable app that works pretty much as well as the multi-platform-share tool you have kindly outlined in your video. That app is CamNote out of the UK. One can buy their notebooks, but this is not necessary. It is currently free too. I will check out Scannable whenever Evernote deigns to release an Android Scannable app. Thanks again!
Linda H Thanks Linda, sounds like a good option for Android users until Evernote gets their act together.
I also recently upgraded my trusty old 4s and saw this app on iTunes. I didn't download it, wanted to wait for more reviews but after watching your video I'm sold, its installing now. Thanks Steve for another great informative video.
Robert Reed I think you will like it Robert!
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I've had it for almost a month now! I'm gonna have to calendar-in a time to scan stuff!
xWenDELL xBETTON It is a pretty cool app!
This app for genealogy,as the kids would say, is the BOMB! I have a tech crush too. I must say if I am looking for education to use some technology, I am choosing you. You are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and you are an excellent teacher. When you teach I get it! Thanks. Keep it coming.
Kathleen Leadley . Maybe you can explain to me how to keep any documents in some type of folder on an iPad please???
Even for non-English speaker, your visual presentation is easy to understand and fun to watch.
eagleflyfree2003 That is great to hear! Thanks for sharing it.
Excellent information Steve. I have been using One Note for a long time and you are quickly bringing me over to the Evernote side.
Like you I've tried a few different I-Phone Scanning apps but Evernote Scannable is the TOPS! Quick, easy, controllable. I got it on day one and have been using it a lot.
Bette Abdu Good stuff Bette.
Works right out of the box. Hard to believe it's free.
Edwin Jackson It is a home run for Evernote
Steve--I just found this WONDERFUL app as well. It does all that you say. Thanks for explaining the settings and other functionality. I always learn from you.
Marguerite Callaway Thanks! Sometime a company just "gets it right" and I think Evernote has with Scannable!
wow this is good. I'd been using JotNot for a long time which I thought was the best scanner for me. Discovered ScanBot recently which does an inconsistent job of auto-finding the doc. ...this app blows them away
stan_sprinkle It does seem to lead the pack, and free....can't beat that!
It is actually look pretty neat. I use EN for everything at work. I'll give it a try
Oscar Rios Let me know what you think Oscar.
I installed Scannable years ago on my iPad and I still love it. Make sure you turn off the AutoCapture, that setting will drive you nuts. (It captures too early and results are blurry.)
I'm debating leaving Evernote because I need to extract the text from my scanned images. I heard GDrive can do that, same with OneNote. I hate that Evernote allows you to search for words captured in your scans, but they won't let you copy the OCR'ed text!
Interesting take, I had not considered it before. Let me know what you decide!
loaded it...used it ... love it !!
Excellent tool, thank Steve and congratulations on your new 6+
Hanns Schulmeister Thanks, it is HUGE, but I am liking it!
Great find and tip! I'm definitely in the productivity/apps/tech subscribers, so really enjoyed this one. I've been looking for an alternative to JotNot for a while. So much adjusting. This seems like it has partially solved the problem.
I'm a long time viewer (RUclips and TV), thought I'd add its good to have you back in my TV...er...computer...er...phone! Things have come a long way from when you introduced me to the idea of scanning on DottoTech.
Wonderful presentation: dynamic, well informed and to the point. Thank you!
Thanks so much Steve--I really need this for my very portable life!
I just stumbled upon your channel. It is great! The video's you make are actually useful and don't contain any junk that most RUclipsrs put in their Content. Thanks a million! You deserve this subscription.
Another great show and tell, love the business card recognition. Another alternitive may have a same number of features is the built in Scan on Google Drive for Android. Unable to comment for IOS, Windows, Blackberry.
The Evernote folks have also come out with Skitch, which allows you to grab things from picture, your image library and even the web to then make annotations to. I've found that very useful as well. Evernote is coming out with quite a suite of helpful, easy-to-use apps.
Kevin Jones Indeed, we have a few demos on Skitch on the channel Kevin. I use it every day!
Already saving hours of time I would never get back. Thanks for the video :-)
Awesome video!!! I just downloaded Scannable and love it! Thank you Steve. Love your videos
Yvette Shaw Thanks Yvette, I appreciate it!
Thank you for your videos. I love it when you are so excited about a product like this. Can you do a video now for all of the apps that connect to Evernote? Have a great weekend!
Brilliant video. En Scannable is awesome!
Sumudu Gunaratne Agreed!
Gee I found a easy way to scan in my prescriptions, taking a picture of the pill, then of the prescription container sure helps me keep up to date, then when I converse with my doctor I can show him what I am talking about, or if I had a reaction or not... We all love going to the dentist don't we... LOL, anyway I love the Scannable by EverNote...
Prepper Dino WHat a great tip! thanks!
Evernote is the Dog's Doo Dah's Steve, thanks for details about the capture app. Just incredible what it can do.
Rob
Rob Charles Thanks Rob, Not entirely sure what a Dog's Doo Dah is, but I will take it as a positive!
dottotech Steve The Dog's Doo Dahs is an English expression for the Dogs Bo****ks meaning "Great". Yes it was a positive.
GREAT.....I AM A BIG FAN STEVE........
ammoun mohamed Thanks Ammoun!
Big time useful .. Me and my iPhone 6 plus thx u !
Hey Steve! Really enjoy your videos and your insights. I have to agree, this new app from Evernote is fantastic! I'm already finding new and awesome ways to use it. Keep up the good work!
ArtMun79 Thanks!
Thanks for all you do. I enjoy learning from you!
Thanks for sharing Steve!
Abdelmoumene Elmamoun My Pleasure!
I have been completely satisfied with the Evernote apps built-in scanning functions. Why should I switch to a stand alone app. I can choose the notebook I want to use, chose Evernote tags, type down notes along with the scan - and I can scan single page documents as PDFs. So why would I want to use this App instead? I just don't see any additional benefits.
Then I would most certainly stay with the built in scanner. I like using Scannable, as often I am sending a scan to someone else and have no need for it to he housed in Evernote
Thank you so much for this. I love Evernote and I use my iPad Air 2 to scan. I have android phone but really considering going to iPhone. Thank you again...this really helped. I was looking for a way to scan my receipts either through my epson WF-3520 or iPad Air to Excell. This is awesome and yes I will subscribe to your channel...Blessings.
+Sheliyahh Janet E Brown in android, the Evernote mobile app will also do a very good job of scanning your receipts. I'm glad you are subscribing! Looking forward to connecting with you in the future
+dottotech Thank you for that info. Looking forward to viewing more of your videos. Blessings...
This app is amazing! Thanks for showing it to me! Awesome!
Rick Mortimer Thanks Rick I used it last night at a speaking event I was at, captured a bunch o business cards ina flash!
wow just discovered your channel you were awesome your excitement about the features of the scannable app made me excited keep up the great work thanks a lot.
+All-Star Films Great to have you on board!
Looks very awesome! Hope they come up with a Android version soon!
Its a great app, thanks for the tutorial.
Looks awesome. Thanks
Hi. Thanks for the review. I love Evernote and Scannable. The auto selection of the size is super fast en works really well. However....often when I "scan" colored documents scannable extracts a lot of color from the scan. For example a drivers license becomes almost unreadable because of the automated color extraction. No matter what I do I can not turn this automated color extraction off. Any tips on this?
It would appear that Scannable is still not available for Android, even after 5 years. That is unless I'm missing something in the main Evernote app.
Awesome review Steve.
Still one of my very favorite apps!
Mine as well, it jest keeps getting better.
Simply an awesome explanation of a new incredible program (well, new a year ago!). Steve, I'm looking for a thorough explanation of using Scannable/Evernote for a paperless workplace--how to set up the naming, etc; can you point me to that, if it exists?
+Robert Gabriel Join us tis week for our Paperless Webinar!
app.webinarjam.net/register/711/44545a6c22
looks great.. excited for the Android version.
Ronnie Wonder how long it will take them!
How do I scan multiple pages into one PDF document using Evernote or Office Lens? Please help
Hi Steve, love this app also, but was completely put off it as I like all my docs to be saved as Pdf's and as you discussed there was no option to choose....However a new update has just been released so we now have the option of setting images to be saved as Pdf or Jpeg which ever you want...I'm now back on board!!!
Nigel Kelly That did not take them long! It was the one big missing piece IMO, thanks for the feedback!
can I use the app to scan photos? if so how is the quality?
Hi Dotto, Just stumbled across your FANTASTIC videos this week after ordering my first Evernote Molekine and signing up for Evernote Premium. (TOTAL newbie here!) Love the videos & just subscribed - it'll take me days to watch all your videos, but I can't wait to learn how to use this app! So thanks!
I have two questions, and ANY insight you can give would be VERY appreciated! (Sorry in advance for the length/if this is too much context. I'm new so don't yet know what's relevant...)
Question #1: I have the "Evernote - capture notes and sync across all devices" app on my Iphone 6s. I downloaded it right away, though, it doesn't recognize my text at all when I search (I may have to read up and watch some more of your videos - maybe I'm not doing it right?)... My question is this: is this a redundant or duplicate app created by Evernote? I'm not sure I understand the difference. If the Scannable app is an improved replacement, why wouldn't they discontinue the old one? What's the difference between them? (Sorry if this was already asked).
Question #2: I could be completely misguided here... but in truth, the WHOLE reason I bought the Evernote Moleskines & Premium Accounts was to convert my hand-written To Do Lists into digital format. (I even ordered the Moleskines with grids to make sure it could recognize my check boxes.) I thought I could write out my To Do lists, along with the check boxes, and then photograph it. I then expected the app to entirely CONVERT my To Do List (text and check boxes) into digital format, so I could then execute on it within the app and accross devices/applications. I even hoped to integrate it with my Outlook 2016 calendars, reminders and To Dos... What I've found so far is that it simply takes a photo of the list and pastes it into a note - which still requires me to manually insert a check box, and still type my To Do list. {Insert super-sad-face here} I get no benefit from duplicating my efforts (typing it in) and simply having an image under my list... Am I misguided, or can this be done?
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO & ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE!!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!
Thanks Steve. Another great video. FYI, I tried to scan to my Fijitsu Scansnap iX500 scanner using the app and it didn't work. So I called Fijitsu and found out that it only works with the Evernote version scanner, not the Scansnap iX500 (which can store files in Evernote, Dropbox, folders and more). I can still scan wirelessly through the ScanSnap app so it's all good. I guess EV trying to find justification to buy their standalone scanner. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was curious.
hismonitor I figures it would only work with the Evernote edition.....
Hi Steve. this is a dynamic video - can i transfer scannable scans into apple notes help help
Yes, after the scan click Send-Share-Apple Notes
Only for iOs so what Scanning App would you recommend for Android etc...?
Google Lens and Photoscan
check out "scanner pro" from readdle! its great too!
Thank you it's awesome.
Does the Evenote scanner have the ability to recognize printed text from a scan? Say I scan my receipt and save it to a notebook in evernote. Will a search of any word from the scan show up in search results in evernote/app?
what is the difference between using the Scannable App and simply using the Camera directly in Evernote to scan and import notes into Evernote?
You can share the scans to more than Evernote for one. and if you are scanning multiple documents it is easier to manage
I use CamScanner on my Android and I couldn't be more satisfied with it. And I can send the scans to evernote as well so I really don't see how scannable is going to be any better
as well as share it to other apps such as dropbox, google drive etc. which is good since I am given to understand you can share evernote notes only to other evernote users and I have very few friends and colleagues who use it
lordrandal90 Perfect, I have used it as well in the past, the key is if it works for you! Thanks for the feedback!
Have you tried s note/photo note on the galaxy note 4/note 3 ? It works the same if not better
I agree that the Sammy solution is good too. The reason I choose Evernote is for the cross-platform compatibility. I may not always own a Samsung phone.
I love this app but I NEED IT TO FAX. Then its perfect.
Christopher Johnson Maybe you can make your own solution using your own fax tool and Scannable with
ruclips.net/video/-UKc038dZHE/видео.html
Evernote is awesome!
Any thoughts on why I would need Moleskin Evernote notebook, If I can make a scan and still have Evernote read my writing ?
Russell Rohling You can, but you need a notebook of some sort, usually, and the evernote integration with the tables is very useful, and the cost of the Moleskine includes 3 months of premium Evernote, all things you would not get from other notebooks or plain paper.
Very Cool Steve! What are you using to show your screen in the background?
Midwest Luxury Brokers I use Screenflow and a green screen to key out the background. I am hosting a webinar on that exact topic next week!
Awesome app, excellent quality documents are produced. However, I do not like the auto capture option which was the default when I downloaded the app. With auto scan turned on, when I just point the phone at the document and it starts scanning. It scans so fast that it's hard to stop it before there are multiple duplicate pages When scanning a 1 page document, I ended up with 4 or 5 duplicate pages of the same 1 page document. . It scans so fast if you had a multi page document, I don't see how you could move from page to page without having duplicate copies of some of the pages. Fortunately, I figured out how to turn auto capture off.
Great point!
Steve do you think that scannable is better than camscanner. Both apps are highly talked about. Can you please make a video showing your opinion which is better and why.
TheTn8989 I have not used camscanner to the same level.
I know it is a great app, but many of the top end features cost about $4 or $5 a month.
I will have look and see if can do a comparison justice.
Steve awesome video. I was wondering how you do the click to refresh link in your shared notes from your webinar's. I want to be able to share notes but cant seem to figure out how the person I share it with can easily refresh there copy of the note to match mine. Any help would be great!
Chromajt Thanks! I share the note then copy that share link to the top if the note.
I will do a video on how I use Evernote for course delivery (it might be something I get people to sign up to the newsletter for)
Can I get it for my iMac desktop?
If Evernote wants me to pay to have their program, they need to give me Scannable and all programs that work on iOS must have in Android. When this happens I will consider purchasing it.
nr3rful I would say your loss, Evernote in Android rocks. and is as full features as in iOS. The Evernote Carea gives you al the same options as are in Scannable,.
Hi. Thanks for showing me this. It does not seem to drag across existing email addresses. Am I wrong?
I am not clear on how you name the note or a folder. Yes I'm thick I know.
I use it connected to Evernote, so all scans are saved there
Hi Steve...This Scannable app looks like a fantastic time saving
solution for me! I'm wondering what would be the quickest way to scan LP
Record covers with Scannable & list them on eBay? How would you go
about this task?
DOH! I just noticed that all images are saved as png or pdf which is bloody frustrating. What have they got against Jpeg?
Almost all of this is already built in to my Evernote Android app; I do it all the time. And document capture works very well. Evernote for Android now has biz card scanning as well. Anything it can't do, the Note 4 does natively. (And a lot more, actually. The Note 4 makes magic!) So, the Note 4 does it's magic stuff, and I save to Evernote. (The device even archives my S-Notes to my Evernote account.)
So, whenever they get around to it for Android.
(Oh. Enjoy your large iPhone; gosh, it's so *big*. JK ;) )
Robin Markowitz LOL, I know how will I ever get by! Sounds like you have mastered the Note4, which would have been my choice if I was willing to leave iOS, I will say once Scannable comes out you should give it a try, it seems to do the same things as Evernote does natively, but it does do it more elegantly.
Oh, I will definitely get scannable as soon at it is available. Thank you for your review! I was just teasing.
(But the Note 4 truly is remarkable; yesterday, I took a photo-note with the S-Note app, turned it into a whiteboard drawing, moved all the lettering around at will, and ended up with something completely different.
If it was a graph or chart, I could completely alter it, and after throwing it into Picsart to make it pretty, no one would ever know! :o
That's scary.)
I do have an iPad 4, so if I really need scannable - or any IOS-only app, I can get it early. My fave IOS app is Hanx, Tom's fun typewriter app. Wish they had a Windows version for my big laptop. (Samsung ;) )
Many thanks for your helpful and entertaining videos!
Does it work seamlessly with the "smart stickers"? I don't see a reason why it wouldn't but still gonna ask :)
Nicholas Jung I have not tested it, but I am not sure it will, I will try that loon and post back!
Downloaded app not impressed!
It would be helpful to see what it looks like on the iPad. It says it deletes items after 30 days! How do you keep them and how do you find them again?
Still one of my favorite apps!
God why can't you tube recognize a carriage return lol Honestly Steve I looked at EverNote once and the interface did kind of scare me away. Not because I couldn't use it but because I looked at the UI and I said do I really want to go through all this to take a note hahaThat said I stumbled on your EN vs. One Note video somehow... and that peaked my interested enough to watch a lot more of your videos. I went through your free course and you got me excited actually about trying to really integrate it into my daily process. Then I watched your SnapEntry video (found a close enough Android equivalent). Then I watched your video about "Scannable" from EN and I said great! this product is looking better all the time. So looked on my Android and saw after almost 3 years they haven't released it on android. Which brought me to countless people complaining about how Evernote takes forever to add it's new iOS features to android if they do at all. Pretty disappointing especially given they have plenty of customers paying the same amount for premium services and getting ignored. I work in IT and use countless apps for remote access to our systems that aren't released on iOS due to Apple's security when I've inquired. And I'm certainly not switching platforms for one app. I'll certainly deal with it and still try to integrate EverNote into to my busy career with endless meeting notes and pieces of technical solutions or ideas I stumble on quite often. It's just disappointing how such a robust program should favor one platform so heavily when adding new features. If their development staff is small and want to test new things on one platform and work out the kinks I can understand. But over 2 years and still not releasing something for the android platform that they have already developed is ludicrous..... Obviously none of this has anything to do with you. I have found your video's extremely enlightening when it comes to EverNote and actually made me want to use it. And I thank you whole heartily for producing and uploading them. I guess I just felt I had to get that out lolThanks again for your hard work and I'll still try to make this work and shred the pile of papers on my desk. FYI just avideo idea for you:It's an expense and I know you're not a fan of notebooks from your videos so this product wouldn't attract you. However if I really get into Evernote in the next 2 weeks it looks like an extremely useful extension to this product for me... The LiveScribe Echo and the desktop app sends it's data to Evernote, either automatically or manually. Whether I can get used to the size of the pen assuming I purchase is yet to be seen but they have a nice return policy to try it out.
Cntl + Enter for a ....?
Nice
Evernote has a document scanner already. What is the difference between that one and "scannable "
nr3rful Scannable is more convenient, and integrates with Linked in.
Can I after scanning to Evernote then save whatever information on to my HDD? Also, after a scan will text information be searchable?
Scan will be searchable depending on the app you save it in, Evernote? Yes. And yes you can export the info if you want to.
I have the ip 4s and tried to download the scanner app and it said that I had to update to 8.1. I love evernote , but after researching on the utube some say not to update. It could cause problems. What is your opinion please. I go to you first for evernote info.
vicki carol I waited until I got my new phone, I found my 4S was slowing down a lot even in 7.
can you set recurring reminders with Evernote?
***** No, but some people have a workaround....
discussion.evernote.com/topic/59450-recurring-reminders-in-evernote/
hello sir , i dont understand the difference of just using the evernote premium camera to scan the documents or using the scannable app
+Roberto Orellana gallardo Snapscan acts outside of Evernote, and allows you to do more things with the scan before it goes to Evernote, plus it is more convinient
+dottotech thank you :)
Wow, what an app!! Now I need to discard my iPhone4 and save money for a new iPhone...no iOS7 support...
Could I scan a blank time sheet save it as a word processing document ?
The idea would be to call up the blank each week and input my hours and comments and email to head office (I work from home)?
+Bertie Blue It would scan in as a graphic, but it may work much better if you had an online form to use. Goole Apps has a free online forms tool that would do the trick.
dottotech Thanks mate i downloaded it and had a go and you're right I' need to reproduce the form online but nonetheless still a great app.
Terrific work on the vids btw, many thanks for your efforts.
Steve, I have been searching but cannot find a download for the Evernote Scannable for Android. Where can I find it? Thanks.
+Neil Turner That is because it has not been released, The Evernote Camera in App does most of the same things.
No widget function though.
When will they be getting an android version app? Any idea?
We've been waiting a long time! But the camera appin Evernote is very good, so I don't imagine that they are in a rush to get it out
isn't this the same as the built-in document note taker in Evernote
+nr3rful Not really, it is close, The doc scanner is designed to save in Evernote, Scannable does save to evernote, but also shares to your network instantly.
+dottotech thanks. it's under "Map"
Can it scan other kinds of papers such as artworks?
Sure
dottotech Cool! Thanks for replying! Much appreciated! Even if it is just one word!
This app doesn’t scan it just takes a photo and stores it.........iPhone does this anyway in notes app........that’s why its free i guess
Don't like the fact the one page documents are Jpeg. I use Scanbot to scan and send all my receipts to my office and they will only accept PDF. I love to do everything through Evernote but this is a deal killer for me.
Jack Carney Jr I believe they have already remedied that.
Looks like Steve has now fallen out of love with Scannable. Shame he's ignoring comments. Are you still alive Steve?
WHat about very long receipts?
take 2 images
I am not sure how Scannable is different from the scanning feature that is already built into Evernote.
Howard Kline Easier to use, more automatic, and a better UI
Steve. I just tried it out on a receipt from Lowe's. It was super simple. Maybe now, I won't lose my receipts. Keep up the good work. I follow your videos religiously and even modified my own videos
Can you finally do a video for the best scanning app for Android? CamScanner is not an option anymore, since they have been caught spying on American users.
I'd like to say thanks for your reply but it was of no use at all!
I would like to say you are welcome, but that seems somehow unnecessary,
Steve hi, Dave here. Recent discover-er to dotto-tech. Devour-er of all your podcasts. RUclips subscriber. UK fan & now patreon.
I love evernote and use built in scanner all the time, specifically for receipts and expenses. Using scannable I have found that my receipts keep getting auto converted to business cards as they often have address and phone number of store on the top.
Is there a way to 'turn off' this feature?
Thanks in advance.
also follower on twitter.@davenormanwater if you want to follow me back ;)
Dave Norman Hey Dave, nie to meet you! I am not sure how to limit that, it is an interesting quirk. I think the best place to post this question is at the Evernote forum, discussion.evernote.com/, or you can poke into our Evernote Facebook Group, @groups/evernotemadeeasy/
dottotech great thanks Steve - keep up the excellent work!
it seems its an issue they are aware of and working on. found this - discussion.evernote.com/topic/80346-defaults-to-business-card/
Thanks again
D
Dave Norman Thanks for the followup Dave!
Why does anyone use a desktop scanner anymore?
When on android
CRAZY6256 Great question...we all are waiting!
hoiw connect ipwebcam Droid in google drive
Hahaha still waiting in 2018 for Scannable
Yeah, seems to be taking a while, Office Lens is a pretty good alternative
No constructive response from you unfortunately.
It would be nice to have known how you can put 2 or 22 documents in a file or folder. Rather than having a screen full of documents which have no relation to each other. You get me?
When is this coming to Android? Come on Evernote.
CRAZY6256 To be fair the camera app in android is outstanding, but I am with you!
which app are you talking about? It doesn't have the ability to automatically recognize the document you want to scan (my bank app does this too with checks) which is what I want.
Damn... I'll have to get an IPhone just for all the Evernote apps... But nah, I won't. I barely ever go out of the house, so why would I need a smartphone? ^^
***** You still might need a good scanner :-)
its safe to say they don't care about android users still no app 5 years later
