I loved it 😍. It had a great plot and I thought it had an _amazing_ commentary on how creators feel like by crafting stories and characters they figuratively literally bring those characters to life even though others say they aren’t real. I don’t know if that was intended on the writers’ or Rod Sterling’s part or that’s just my takeaway from this episode. On the subject of Rod, I _loved_ how when Keenan’s character chucked the envelope into the fire, instead of panicking and screaming, Rod just _sat there perfectly calm_ about vanishing into thin air, he was all like “Oh this is inconvenient. But y’know when you’re licked, you’re licked. The show’s been renewed for a 2nd season anyway, so I’ll be back.”
@@carealoo744 I wish marvel had have been able to takeoff in the mid-1950s early 1960s film wise. This guy as Thanos? He wouldn’t be as scary but he would be no less interesting.
I really love the twist of Victoria being a creation as well, plus it's fantastic that they were actually able to get a real life elephant for that brief shot. Very impressive, especially for the early 60's!
The elephant part reminded me of when my parents told me about stage performances that managed to transport a live animal (elephant or horse) on stage decades ago
Sidney Sheldon staged a similar scene in the 1966 "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" episode "The Permanent House Guest". When Doctor Bellows sees an elephant in Tony's bedroom, he grimaces, "l can't *wait* to hear your explanation....of what you're doing with an elephant in your bedroom."

It literally blew my mind when I first watched the episode that rod sterling actually was INSIDE an episode and not just narrating it. Because most of the time, nobody in the backround really focused on him and it really surprised me a lot.
Rob expected to be the last man on Earth, but he found out he's forever trapped with Brad Jones and a stack of "Norm of the North" DVDs. His day will forever be ruined in the Twilight-tober Zone
I personally enjoy the more comedic episodes of The Twilight Zone. They can be just as creepy as they are hilarious. Plus, Rod Serling breaking the 4th wall before it was cool is great.
Usually the characters in a Twilight Zone episode are pushed along by forces beyond their control. In this story the character is that force and is, as Rod himself says, "in complete control of the Twilight Zone." I think the implication is that he is not just "a writer" he is "the writer". The Zone is his own private little universe and the stories we see are his creations brought to life.
*Fun fact:* This episode inspired Stephen King for his short story "Word Processor of the Gods", who was later adapted as an episode of "Tales from the Darkside"
I love it when Rod Sterling was always interacting with his players in some way like he would come through a door, a mannequin or in the ending of this episode. I always thought it'd be funny is that he would either get out of a car or something to start the narration or whatever.
Spotlight on Walter's magnificent turn as Rod Serling's doppelganger, and -- FINALLY! -- a chance for 'the other Walker' to show his quality. Encore! 🤗
I got to be Keenan Wynn's photographer at the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans. He and his wife were two of the kindest and classiest people I ever met.
Ed and Keenan Wynn were not only parent and child pair that appeared on Twilight Zone, as Billy Mummy and his daughter Liliana also appeared in 2002 incarnation. However, Ed and Keenan remain the only parent and child pair to appear in separate episodes.
Richard Matheson wrote some of their best episodes. Course the man created “I Am Legend”, “Hell House” & more excellent short stories and novels along with his teleplays
Reminds me of a short story by Stephen King. "Word processor of the Gods". Not to give too much away, but the story has a few beats that fall in with this episode.
Best 4th wall break ever. And I love how humble and comedically Serling plays it. As a writer I would be SUPER careful with my vampire characters but otherwise I would ABUSE THE HECK out of that thing. When I first watched this episode many years ago, I had no idea who the actor playing Gregory was. However, having previously watched One for the Angels, I couldn't help but notice that Gregory resembled Lew Bookman greatly. It wasn't until the end credits that I saw that actor's name was Keenan Wynn. Later, through internet, I found out that he was son of Ed Wynn, who starred as Lew Bookman in One for the Angels. While I heard of Ed before, as he had a decades long career before Twilight Zone, I never heard of Keenan before, but eventually found out that he also had a long and distinguished career both in movies and on television and that he was actually already pretty well known actor in his own right at the time of this episode and was not only known as Ed's son.
