Man this guy just doesn't stop amazing me! I'm from USA, Hispanic, Cuban & Puerto Rican Parents. I've been in music all my life and this Musician is extraordinary! Their hasn't been one of his videos that he hasn't been right on the money! It's obvious he's very well cultured and versed and a true Conguero. Not like other guys, "Anglos on U Tube", than can play pretty good and actually insult, mis pronounce, Cuban, Musician's, names to the extent of actually having many racial law suits.
Muchas gracias por el increíble video. I have learned a lot from your tutorials. Your work as a whole is really the example of being humble person, a good teacher and a passionate of Latin American Percussion. Saludos desde el caribe de Mexico.
Thank you Roberto! I try to explain everything as simple as possible, so the majority can understand and enjoy all the beautiful rhythms and instruments that we all have.
Michael - as usual a great, very clear lesson. I hate to complain, but I am really missing having the notation available on the side of the screen, it makes it a lot easier to follow. Thanks for all your work!
Hi Michael, thank you very much for all your instructions, I learned really a lot. Your method of teaching is also very effective and your rhythms are very very cool!
great tutorial Michael! i found in the 2nd rhythm, that if you start in the 2nd note as "the one", an interesting "samba" feeling rhythm appears... cheers, tato
hello Your videos are great. Can i suggest you one little thing ? I find it muche easier to grasp the hands movements when it is on the filmed on the side or the top.
Actually, I don't really know what the essence of bongo playing in Bachata is. But I'll ask a friend of mine, who is a great bongocero. Perhaps he knows how to do it.
Thank you for your comment! Perhaps I'll try to put the camera in a different position, so it becomes more to follow what I do. I have to experiment with this. Thanks!
Expert teaching! 3 lessons in one. Thankyou!
Many thanks, Michael! Very easy and positive teaching. Really Holland style :))) Respect from Belarus...

Thank you!!
This video is great Michael, what about the clave on the timba, You dont explain it hahaha :/ there is not clave on Timba?
Your welcome!
nice, thanks
timba conga players use quinto and tumba combination.conga is eventually for between combinations
Thanks!!
Muchas graçias!!
I didn't play the play-back sequences, but they are worth to analyze too!!
Master I want the bachata bongo lesson...
Hi, I enjoyed this but am a little confused as to time and if there are any rest.
Actually, I don't really know what the essence of bongo playing in Bachata is. But I'll ask a friend of mine, who is a great bongocero. Perhaps he knows how to do it.
Hi Michael, did you play the play-back sequences ?
Nice, what I take away from this is that the bass no longer anticipates the one as in your typical salsa groove. Would that be correct?
That is possible. The bass can be more funky in timba styles.
Thanks you are a master. I mostly play guitar and congas, but am a frustrated bass player. The syncopations fascinate me.

Can you tell me Michael, is 'Salidor' the name of the low drum, or the name of the low part of the rhythm...or both?
The Salidor is the name of the low drum (in rumba). They also call it tumba.
isn't the second sxample actually a brazilian "partido-alto"?
Thank you for your comment! Perhaps I'll try to put the camera in a different position, so it becomes more to follow what I do. I have to experiment with this. Thanks!
Michael, Where is your NOTATION? Please add to your video! Thanks
Jammer dat er deze keer geen notatie bij vertoond werd...
Deze video is uit mijn begintijd, oftewel zonder notatie. Daar ben ik pas later mee begonnen. Misschien moet ik deze les opnieuw maken....
Your welcome!
