G&L beats Fender at basically every price point. especially these ones which have locking tuners, roasted necks, burl laminate tops, silent coils, and objectively more useful tone controls. only reason you'd spring for the Fender these days is if you absolutely need that specific headstock in your life. it's an aesthetic choice that you'll have to pay more for
Strats have a unique tone that can't be acquired by the fuller and heavier tone the G&L can give you. I think they both have a place at the table. But i would agree that the G&L is a much better value.
As is said the single coil tone is a staple of modern music tone. These Comanche Tributes are 100 percent amazing guitars but they sound like a PAF so they have their purpose if you want a Strat look but warmer tone.
The G&L is the best. The configuration of those single coil pickups are just an example of Leo fenders genius. O already have a comanche but like those new colours so will be getting a new one.
Can't help it, to me the Comanche just has it hands down. Could be that I know that the thin sound of the Stratocaster can be coaxed out of the Comanche just by tuning the PTB. So it is kind of like a two in one situation.
If you want a fatter sound on the strat just put a set of 10's on it and roll the tone back by 50 - 80% Then you will approximate the sound of the Comanche. but you still won't get the noise cancelling benefit of Leo's z-coil pups.
I own one of the black burl Comanche guitars. Hands down my favorite. If you're thinking about one, buy it. It is still very Fender-esque, but the PTB tone controls G&L uses are great for the traditional styled single coil pickup guitars.
To the people that are talking about trade value or resale value. I have never bought a guitar with the intent to resale it. I have a friend who thinks that way. And I just laugh. Guitar are meant to be played not worry about resale value.
I just picked up a tribute with the burl top today through a trade. I worked with it for about 10 minutes at home and then had to load up for my gig tonight. I used it and to be honest it totally blew me away. I have 2 Strats, one of which is a Player HSH and the output of the G&L pickups totally blows it away. I'm a very happy camper.
I have this Fender Player and I have a few G&L's (Legacy, ASAT and Doheny) and I have played this Comanche at GC. Just as we heard, the G&L sounds meatier and the Fender has a bit more clarity. This could have a lot to do with the fact that Fenders ship with 9 gauge strings and G&Ls use 10's. Also the G&L comes with the PTB tone control system and I guarantee that you can dial that thing in so close to a Strat sound, no one would ever be able to tell them apart in a blind test.
@@phenixreturns Personal preference I suppose and depends on the pickups. If you use effects you won't tell the difference anyway. Clean I think the G&L's have it in my opinion.
@@bluwng Are they ugly or are people just being nostalgic? I suppose they could of encased them in three full humbuckers and you wouldn’t see the Z. I kind of like it myself but I’m left handed and they don’t make a left handed Comanche anymore.
@@Noumenon4Idolatry I’m an engineer, I like change and innovation, I understand how they made them noise canceling. I still think they look strange, to my eyes.
Fender player has a nice modern strat tone , but the comanche is just the better guitar : locking tuners , roasted maple neck , the staggering look of the body top ,plus you can adjust bass and treble with the better electronics and adjust the height of any magnet in every pickup to get the classic strat tone . Comanche just isn't a fair match for the player .
This cannot be a ( fair ) contest ! Both guitars are excellent, but the " COMANCHE T " has ceramic magnets ( PICKUPS ), the Fender ( as usually ) AlNiCo magnets, wich offer a different sound. The G&L LEGACY also have the AlNiCo magnet PICKUPS and sounds like the Fenders, so what ? I prefer 100 % the AlNiCo tone !!!
Ive heard that, a lot. I guess you either buy a guitar to play or to resell. When i get a comanche, the only way its leaving is when they pry it out of my cold dead hands lol
..That reminds me of how nearly everyone says they'd consider voting Libertarian, but it would be a wasted vote because not enough other people will. 😅
@@Crabfather I was just saying that if more people said things like, "G&L's are where it's at, I'd buy one over a Fender anyday," then their resale value would be more on par with a Fender. Same thing if more guitar heroes picked them up.

If you dial in the PTB and stagger the poles on the MFD pickups, you can zero in on a vintage strat sound.
If that's what you want.

thanks for your insulting, condescending opinion on how other people should enjoy their guitar. 😅 Buy me a guitar and I’ll do it your way.

No doubt! The output can really drive an amp.
Leo combo'd the MFD with the z-coil configuration and introduced us to the future....20 years ago.

It’s cool how the Comanche cancels that hum. It’s like humbuckers without the mud.

The G and L has so much more of a fuller sound than the Fender.
G&L is way better! Thanks for helping me finally make up my mind!
I’m buying a G&L Comanche tomorrow, the strat will probably go in a soft case under my bed lol.

Good job
Fender hands down for looks, pickups and easily be upgraded to sound better. G&L can’t get prettier.
