Having taken 4 years of violin as a kid, and shamefully quitting, I am glad to have found this and I particularly liked the describing of consequences of perpetuating bad positioning. Great incentive to immediately endure the difficulty of improving one's technique. Great way to teach. This charismatic teaching is exactly the great refresher I was seeking.I think I will have my son start with your lessons to see if he'd like personalized lessons. Awfully generous of you to broadcast these lessons thanks!!
Thank you! I am glad you are benefiting and enjoying the lessons. If you or your son are interested in private lessons, please let me know. I would be happy to work with you both!
This series is so very helpful. I was feeling pretty lost in the sauce but now having watched these videos I feel like I have a sense of direction in which to progress with my practicing. Thank you.
1 step down, 5 more to go. I don't even own a violin yet, but I'm still watching all of these, heh. Thank you again for taking the time to actually go through everything and upload these videos. I honestly appreciate it, as well as everyone else I'm assuming.
I would highly recommend using a shoulder rest as it certainly makes things more comfortable holding the instrument. Kun shoulder rests are really comfortable I recommend that highly to students. Not using a shoulder rest can promote you relying on the left hand to hold the instrument which is incorrect. This can later effect ability to shift and also do vibrato. Glad you have enjoyed the videos!
Wow, this was actually tons better than most other videos haha i learnt so much (i support the violin mainly with my hand =X, time to kick the habit!) . I seriously can't wait for the other "step" videos, you sir are awesome :)
Wow this is exactly what I have been looking for!!! Thank you so much for posting these videos I find it's quite hard to learn efficiently in my beginning strings class of 30. Thanks again!
+David Granados Thank you! There are more lessons and resources available at www.violintutorpro.com that will help keep you practicing and give you the opportunity to communicate with other violinists from around the world!
I have just started to get into classical music and want to begin playing the violin. I don't own one yet and haven't found a teacher but I love your videos already! Have you got any tips that you think would help me get started or any advice you're willing to share?
Yes, you should definitely check out my website. I am currently offering some free lessons on there. If your looking for a reasonable priced, but good quality violin let me know. I know that violins can be expensive but they don't have to be. I would love to help get you started playing. :)
Hi I'm looking into buying a violin and starting learning, i have played piano for 5 years but i stopped about four years ago so would that help at all in learning violin? And also everyone says it takes years and years to even sound mildly good is that true? also on your site wiht the lessons you pay for does it go through a certain violin book that you have to buy or what?
So I don't know if this is a stupid question with an easy answer or a question with and easier answer, but when I hold the violin with my chin I cant keep it from slipping or feeling like its going to slip. I don't know if I'm holding it wrong or just all my shirts are oddly slippery. (I do not use a shoulder rest, encase that effects it) P.S I owe you big time for helping me figure out slurs in another one of your videos. They were driving me crazy at the time. so thanks for that.

+Missi R I am sorry you are having problems with the videos. I have checked several of them and everything seems to be okay. Unfortunately from time to time there are problems similar to what you are experiencing. I would recommend clearing your browser history and retrying the videos.
