My wife and I first went to Vung Tau in Dec 2000 staying at Back Beach near Sammy's Hotel. We returned several times last visiting there in 2010. I remember it was much longer walking up the statue than I had expected so you give good advice. Your video brings back fond memories and also shows some changes. Weekends were much more crowded with day trippers from HCM city so I recommend staying there on weekdays if possible. Hoping to go back for a visit next year and stay at Front Beach.
Thanks! It sounds like you have many fond memories from your time in Vung Tau. Do you have plans to go back to visit anytime soon? Thank you again for watching our video.
Hi Ryan and Emily, thanks once again for showing us various parts of Vietnam. My family and I have yet to set foot in Vietnam but now we got a much better idea which city to stay, places of interest, food to look out for and how much to budget for. All thanks to The Snails Traveller. ❤
Good, tightly edited video, to the point. I had you on 1.3x speed, but one of the better youtube holiday posts, eschewing shots of airports, elevators and hotel rooms
Thanks for watching as always! I hope you do get a chance to go back to Vietnam again. How long ago were you there? We also hope to go back again because it is such a fabulous place to visit.
@@snailtravelers We spent a month in VN in February, as we could only get a 30 days visa at the time. Most of our time was spent in Hoi An and Da Nang, where the temperature was perfect (around 25°C with a nice breeze). VN is very much an acquired taste... great food, landscapes and culture, but also lots of irritants, like traffic, noise, hustle mentality... At first, we even questioned whether we liked it or not... but it's got so much going for it, we ended up loving it!
@@adventurewithbernie Thanks so much, and I wish you a terrific trip to Vung Tau. I just subscribed to your channel and hope to watch your video from Vung Tau if you make one.
@snailtravelers Thank you so much, and I will reciprocate. A video will undoubtedly come from it. But, I get a bit slow with my uploading. Perhaps now is as good a time as any to rectify that 🤔😆
I briefly visited Vang Tau ten years ago and you have showed me here much more than I experienced. Thanks for your great video and sharing your experiences. I definitely want to go back to Vung Tau now.
What an interesting video! I have never heard of this place, and it was very cool to see what is available close to HCMC. I really found the stuff with your Father super interesting as well. It is remarkable how many of that generation spent time fighting in the War in Vietnam. Thanks again for another great video.
Good overall video. I have fond memories of my time in Vung Tau during my work posting for 1 1/2 years between 2021 and 2023. While I managed to get basic Vietnamese into my vocab, definitely needed to learn more. Language aside, it's definitely a place to retire if you like the rustic/slower paced life like me.
It was fabulous, definitely recommended if you ever get the chance. I have just discovered your channel and will check out your videos soon. We want to travel to Iceland and I see you have some videos from there.
Good video! I was recently in Vung Tau & enjoyed the place. I’ll be going back in a couple of months & might move there. (My girlfriend lives there & loves it; she’s from northern Vietnam & prefers the climate of Vung Tau.)
Great video, but let me correct a few things. I've lived in Vung Tau for 5+ years. The temperature doesn't average in the 90's year round. It is only that hot for 6 months of the year. 6 months of the year, it's in the low to mid 80's. Average monthly rent is between $300 to $400, plus utilities. There are several VIP van services that take you or picks you up directly to or at the airport.
We plan to visit Southern Vietnam next year. Fortunately, the 90 day visa is available so we can visit several destinations during that time. It's great to get some ideas about where to visit other than Saigon. I also appreciate your recommendations for transportation from place to place. Safe travels guys.
Thanks so much! We felt like southern Vietnam was a different experience compared to the north. It's great that you'll get to visit both the north and the south! And having that 90 visa back in place is definitely a plus. Thanks, as always, for watching!
@@Chris-dw6cu U.S. citizens cannot enter Vietnam visa free. You can apply for a 30 day Visa or a 90 day Visa. Be sure to utilize the official Vietnam immigration website when applying, as there are fake websites out there.
Vung Tàu is the most popular tourist destination where visitors from Ho Chi Minh like to travel at weekend and summer holidays. And now today 10/august/2024 I am staying at Van town
WOw, thank you for your good review. I was born and raise there until studying abroad and living in Amsterdam now. Out of the trash issue cuz it’s a part of “Vietnamese culture” (😅srr motherland), I proud to recommend that VT is the most lovable city if you have a chance to stay longer.
Amazing video. Will spend 2 weeks in February as part of my sabbatical there. Any chance you could recommend me a website for the boat trip? Will arrive around 8PM local time so would like to find some options to get down to VT.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! We bought our ferry tickets on the 12goasia website and it was about US$15 each. You can go by bus/shuttle van for about half that price but it's not as fun as the ferry. There are only I think 1 or 2 ferries per day, but multiple buses. How fantastic that you get to spend two weeks there!
@@Chris-dw6cu Vung Tau is not an island, and that's why you could certainly go to Vung Tau from Saigon by bus or minivan. As a Vietnamese living in Saigon and loving going to Vung Tau frequently, I highly recommend going there by minivan whose price is currently around 8 USD and it takes you only over 2 hours, while ferry would take you around 15 usd and 4 hours of on the sea. The fun of taking ferry is just 1 hour at the beginning, but it is quite boring for the rest. For more information of minivan brand and other stuff such as hotels, restaurants, interesting destinations that local people prefer, etc, I could refer to you when you are meant to go there someday :)
@@VuNguyen-uu6tb thanks! I was recently told Vung Tau might be a bit more noisy and crowded because there is a large amount of tourism there. Do you think Da Nang is a better choice for a more tranquil atmosphere or what would you suggest?

Agree with some coments, disagree with others as I spent a lot of time there in the 60s. when I was there 3-4 years ago it looked like a typical tourist rip off to me.
